For a Partner I would just not expect an announcement on Monday. If no announcement by Tuesday then that officially rules out a General I think

You mean Serranò? he has hits hits and misses as everybody else, we shall wait and see.
Could you remind people of what it said, please? Thread's moving super fast.
It was the “Mini Direct this week, Persona ports plus one other major third party port” one. Seems like others have explained why we’re taking it seriously.

Possible candidates:
Call of Duty Black Ops 4 (recently leaked)
Red Dead Redemption 2
Naruto to Boruto Shinobi Strikers
Assassin's Creed Odyssey (I think they'd port Unity next)
Shadow of the Tomb Raider (they'd port the first and second game first)
Soul Calibur VI

I can't think of anything else, a lot of 2018 indies also received a Switch version. Some games make zero sense, like Monster Hunter World. Capcom would never announce it on the day of Sunbreak launch.
To add to the list some other releases:
  • A Way Out
  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance (already announced but would be cool in a direct)
  • Shenmue 1 + 2
  • Fallout 76

What? Try what?
The poster said he couldn't imagine investor not asking about 1st party announcements [bolded] and I said he might want to try harder [at imagining] because as far as investors are concerned, Nintendo already has multiple 1st party announcements for summer and one in particular [Splatoon 3] will most likely be a massive commercial success. Felt pretty straightforward and I'm genuinely baffled you're singling my post out despite it being from hours ago and not addressed to you.

The thing is, Nintendo doesn’t need a Direct right now. They’ve already announced and lined up multiple major releases for their platform this year, they did that back in February. They also have multiple high profile projects confirmed to be coming for the Switch for beyond this year. There’s no reason to have a big new Direct.

This is in contrast to Sony and MS, whose release slates were pretty empty after the first quarter of the year, and who therefore needed shows to properly solidify their plans for the coming months to the public.
I disagree. There's more than enough material to justify a big June Direct:
  • We don't know what their big holiday game is. Pokemon always marches at its own beat, in the past they've coupled big 1st party holiday games alongside the yearly Pokemon release. So it's not that. Either their 1st party lineup just disappointing this year and there is no big November release, or there is something and it's due to be revealed.
  • We're well overdue for the big BOTW2 blowout.
  • We're well overdue for the re-reveal of Metroid Prime 4
  • We're due for a Splatoon 3 information blowout.
  • We're due for a Bayonetta 3 release date reveal, alongside more information.
  • We're due for a M+R2 release date reveal.
  • We're due for an Advance Wars release date reveal
  • We're due for the leaked Fire Emblem 18.
  • We're due for the the long-rumored (potentially already finished) Prime 1 remake
  • We're well overdue to hear about EPD8's next project(s).
There's plently of material for a Direct, even if you remove rumors.

Nintendo changing their direct strategy is plausible. It’s Nintendo in the end. They’re unpredictable which makes changing strategy a viable option.

With no E3 this year maybe it gives them to chance to try something no predictable

If there are was a big holiday game apart from Pokemon we would already know it.

It was BOTW 2 before the delay, now they know that with Pokemon, Splatoon 3 and Mario + Rabbids 2 they have enough for Fall

Try harder to imagine then? I don't know what else to say, it's a public forum and I reply to lots of people. When you reply to one person, sure I guess you're "singling them out". Just thought your comment was surprisingly rude and I wanted clarification that's what you meant.

Do investors even ask for titles? They have been.mostly asking about their next console, and Nfts and metaverse.

Never read a transcript when they ask for a title per se.
I remember that one asked if it was profitable to make more adventure games. Not longer after that there were the Famicom Detective remakes so he must be happy (or not, looking at sales)

I can’t believe I was worried Nintendo may have too MUCH to show in general earlier this month

Like I genuinely thought there would be no time for BotW2 bc they simply have so much coming

If we lived in a sane world, people would see major first party releases slowing down nearly 6 years into a console's life and say "well we're getting near the next one obviously." But we don't live in a sane world so obviously the games are just slowing down 6 years in because every game is now taking 6-7 years to make. After all, the switch must have a 9 year lifespan since a leaker on the internet said so, even though the longest lifespan ever was the gameboy at 8 years and that was 30 years ago.
major First party releases have been slow for most of the Switch lifespan lol

I see we are in the phase of irrational posting and remembering the “iwata direct” legacy.

Nintendo direct cycle continues.
No matter how good the game output gets, I will never stop remembering the Iwata Direct legacy. ❤️

I like the personal touch (developer interviews, slower pacing) and first-party focus. The games are definitely better now, but I preferred the Directs themselves when they took their time and had closer looks at each game.
Very yes.

Try harder to imagine then?
People constantly dunk on investors for their questions here and they shouldn't start getting their hopes up now because the Direct isn't turning out like how they wanted. I even took the time to explain why. You can't come into this thread telling people to chill out and then passively aggressively quoting my comments that aren't related to you. Fuck off, I don't care if you're an admin or not.

Honestly I'm confused by Nate's words. It's not like I DON'T believe him, but he is contradicting himself.

At the beginning of June he was completely sure a General Direct was happening at the end of the month. Now he doesn't believe it anymore.
Second, he claimed a while ago nobody knows what format Nintendo uses for Directs, as they don't rely this info to anyone... But now Nate says he knows it's going to be a Partners Showcase.

Watch the Partner shatter heaven and earth with another Cadence-style indie collaboration, this time between Yacht Club Games and Star Fox.
A game in the style of Zelda 2 by Yacht Club would be right up my alley

My serious take is that a Partner Direct in late June feels very misguided considering the circumstances. It would only make sense if:
1) There's something else coming before the traditional September Direct
2) They're splitting up the marketing for their first party releases for whatever reason
3) There's something going on behind the scenes that we're not privy of leading to a 2020-like situation where first party software isn't ready for whatever reason

On one hand, yes, that's plausible. But I still feel like they wouldn't decide to experiment unless they had some good reasons to, like the new hardware announcement timing throwing a wrench into things. Or, maybe they just decided to throw everything out and do something really bizarre and different.

Like, imagine we get a Partner Direct next week. Then a major first-party-focused Direct in July/August sometime. Then the usual September Direct is another partner.

Lol exactly, that’s why no one truly knows the branding until it’s announced or shadow dropped

So do we actually think they will do one in July/August? My understanding is that they are not doing this big General presentation since, it's the summer actually lol

Just depends on what dates we get next week.

If M&R2 and Bayonetta 3 fill in two of remaining three August/October/November slots, then Metroid Prime Remaster, Everybody Switch, and/or Advance Wars could just be Direct tweets to complete the rest of the year. At that point, Nintendo would not really need a general until September.

um
yall
maybe let's try some

Yeah, agreed. There's more going on that we're not aware of, I think.

Which to be fair is always the case... but this isn't quite business as usual and I don't think E3's cancellation is enough reason to change their usual format. If they needed a big event for general Directs, we wouldn't get the February and September shows.

Yes, exactly. If next week's Direct is a Partner, then I don't think there's any way we make it to September without another presentation. Barring something like a Twitter barrage.

That is how I have always felt whether you liked or disliked the things Nintendo showed off we at least got announcements.
It's not like those things aren't announced. The things that would've been announced at time X may instead be talked about earlier or later. Net difference of nothing.

Never read a transcript when they ask for a title per se.
They’ll sometimes ask about them like when Animal Crossing was delayed but overall they are more likely to ask about general future announcements in certain timeframes.

Nate will probably answer this, but I think it's pretty easy to explain.

If you assume that Nate knew about Mario+Rabbids and/or Bayonetta 3 being in the 29th Direct alongside a bunch of E3-tier 3rd party games it would be understandable for him to assume it was a General Direct-tier event from this small sample of games.
Now that the Direct is just a few days away Nintendo probably started sending out heads up to the media under embargo so the branding of the Direct is known.
