I don't feel it has to be a blowout, in the case of Metroid HD/4 they could just show an update trailer to show off the game.
Sure but that will be used for whatever Direct it is placed in & not the VGA. They didn’t even show up for the last 2 so the outlook of them appearing in this one is slim.

Man I knew we would have this whole Direct circus as soon as the ESA announced there would be no E3 this year. With E3 happening at least we know there will be E3 Direct from Nintendo.
That is how I have always felt whether you liked or disliked the things Nintendo showed off we at least got announcements.

It is also clear right Nintendo are "sitting" on a bunch of projects which are either unannounced, or have zero footage:

  • Detective Pikachu from Creatures Inc
  • Metroid Prime 4 from Retro Studios
  • completed project (September 2021) from Retro Studios
  • stylish medieval fantasy game Grezzo
  • fashion game from Syn Sophia
  • 2D game at EPD 8
  • 2D game at EPD 10
  • 3D game at EPD 8
  • something at Vanpool
  • contract project at Good-Feel
  • remaster at Bandai-Namco
  • next mainline Fire Emblem from Intelligent Systems/Koei-Tecmo

Out of all of these, the only one I'd question coming to first gen Switch is the remaster from Bandai-Namco, which seems to have only started recently. Everything else I expect you're looking at as playable on gen 1 and 2 of the Switch.

That being said, I'm not saying this to prove hardware news is imminent. It just points a partial picture of how many games are on the go at Nintendo and I don't think anybody needs to concern themselves over the software picture.
Yeah I agree, a peculiar scenario but I'm not too much worried. I just want so see and play Metroid Prime Hd and Bayonetta 3 as soon as possible

I agree, I am just on that hopium that everyone is always talking about. I feel that September is our strongest bet at this point.

what a turnaround. Yesterday morning we were discussing if a new Punch-Out game (or something new from NLG in general was coming) and then here we are today lol

That's Nintendo being Nintendo. Xbox clearly showed you can have a showcase without E3. If Nintendo wants to be in E3, cool. But they could've done a General if they wanted too.

To be fair Sony is doing something similar. I guess we’ll see what they have this final week though.

It should be the 28th in all timezones. 28th/29th was just hedging bets and to cover all possible outcomes. As for why others claimed 29th... I have no idea; but the 28th has always been the date I was given -- hence the Elmo gif tease from even before Pierce gave the date.
There's also PH Brazil (writer for The Enemy) who shared about how the Direct is happening on June 29th. He also shared an airing time (which would be in line with a Mini / Partner Showcase)

It is indeed weird how we have multiple sources claiming that a Direct is coming but not agreeing with the airing date.

Do Famiboards have the same 400 page limit as Era?
The 400 page limit rule was a hold over from the old site because >400 page threads caused issues with the search feature. Era doesn't have to do it and I don't believe we do either. There's an argument for refreshing threads after 400 pages to not be as intimidating, though I'm not really sure how something like One Piece discussion topic LXXX is less intimidating then OP Discussion page 40,000 :p

Interesting. Him and Nate definitely disagree with the date. Alanah also said the 29th.

I think they are conflating the same thing as Tom. I'd have to check the timing to be certain, however.

Agreed

"Mario Kart cant show up because they're busy with the DLC"
First of all, the DLC is a lazy port from the mobile game, so no they aren't "busy with it." Second, they did not have to port content from the mobile games, they could have simply made a new game which would have no doubt earned them a lot more money. You present it as if the DLC had to happen and thus it delayed the release of the next game, when in reality it's likely the other way around. They aren't ready to release the next game and this lazy DLC is a way to bridge the gap.

"Metroid prime 4 will show up when it's ready"
How is it not ready to be shown? It's been in development for nearly 4 years. I'm not saying it has to release now, but you're telling me they aren't ready to make a teaser yet? Is this game coming in 2026?

"3D Mario is probably at some point in development"
What does this even mean? Of course it's at some point in development. Odyssey came out more than 4 years ago. Considering Odyssey itself took 4 years to COMPLETE you would think they could do a teaser by now. But I guess not. Seems like all their major games just have a 7 year development time now according to you.
Okay, I'm gonna try to stay friendly myself since you have taken the courtesy of doing the complete opposite and counter all your points you made.

1. Mario Kart: They're not gonna show the next Mario Kart when DLC for the previous game is still being released. It would be like: "Hey here's Smash 7 but look, Kazuya comes out for Ultimate next week!" It's just not gonna happen until Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass is completely finished. Saying this DLC is lazy is also showing of a complete lack of knowledge on how game development works. I also never said, like literally never said that this DLC delayed the release of the next game. It's nonsensical to release DLC for a game while announcing the next game, especially for a game that has sold over 40 million copies on Switch alone, being a port itself.

2. As has been stated by Nate, Metroid Prime DE/HD has also been handled by Retro Studios before they took on Metroid Prime 4, meaning they were working on at least 2 Metroid games since 2019. Even though Metroid Prime 4 has been rebooted because the previous version, reportedly handled by Bandai Namco was bad, this doesn't mean Metroid Prime 4's time at Retro Studios has been smooth sailing. They started over from SCRATCH in like December 2018/January 2019, a modern Metroid Prime game would likely take 4 years of development time at least, seeing how Retro Studios is a studio full of ambition, and getting used to the Switch hardware with Tropical Freeze port and fully optimizing the Metroid Prime DE/HD engine for Switch for Prime 4, who knows what kind of game they'll be able to crank out. This game is going to take time, and won't be fully unveiled until well after Prime 1 DE/HD is released.

3. 3D Mario has always been a game where the creators will try to innovate, try and come up with fresh new ideas. There was a 6 year gap between Super Mario 64 and Sunshine, in a time where games took a lot less time to make usually. And where does this idea come from that "Odyssey took 4 years to make, so the next must also take 4 years to make"? For all we know they started work on another project before 3D Mario, the Odyssey team is as we know working on 2 different games IIRC.

I'd appreciate for the next time you try and attack me that your points actually make sense.

Shall we designate a time to burn our Switches? I propose immediately following the Direct Mini Partner and Knuckles Showcase.

But it could be accelerated to after the announcement tweet.

This means Jeff Grubb had accurate info when he said Nintendo were going to do a series of smaller directs over the summer right? Certainly seems to be panning out that way.

That’s fair. Like when I look back at E3 2014 that fits it to a T (plus we got Treehouse on top of it) and it makes it one of my favorite directs of all time. It had the personal touch, so much first party goodness, and some dives into the games.
Yep. 2014 was the golden standard. 2015 would have been great too if the games were to par.

Partner showcase would've been cool if it weren't for the fact that most announcements will be just ports of years old games

we all know it's gonna be Ports showcase, weird that Nintendo think ports deserves their own segment lol

Kudos to Jeff and Andy. They had this more specifically down for a while. Andy straight up saying Partners he was expecting. Jeff expecting smaller stuff. I bet Jeff saw similar patterns to what he was hearing to 2020 and probably came to the conclusion it would be a partners/mini

OMG so much happened here lol. It is like going from season 2 to season 6 with no prior knowledge of the seasons in between.
Well Partner could still have some exciting things for me.
Dragon Quest treasures seems a given since they said news are coming in June and, well, we've heard nothing till now. Don't think there will be more DQ though.
Square Enix has some rumored FF projects that could be revealed there, like FF9 remake, FFT remaster, FF pixel remasters etc.
And obviously Tactics Ogre.
Sega Atlus could reveal Persona 5 for Switch (don't really care for P4 and 3 since I already played them on Vita).
I'm really not confident for Bayonetta 3 (since it is first party) but who knows.
And Mario Rabbids 2 are apparently a lock (?)

Persona on Xbox was like, one of the most commented things in their E3. Ports are important for a lot of people.

This one has potential to have number of new games, even possibly exclusives. There are new SaGa and Mana games in development, and a FF9 remake that was leaked in Nvidia leak. Capcom is preparing the next installments of Megaman (rumored to be bigger budget than MM11) and Ace Attorney. There are a lot to be excited about.

People want their favorite games ported to Switch for the portability. It's why people were so ecstatic for 5 minutes about Kingdom Hearts on Switch before the travesty that was "cloud version" was announced. Heck, a native port of KH1.5 + 2.5HD to Switch would be a far bigger announcement for me then most of the 1st party games people have been speculating would show up.

Like the Tweet from Nintendo Germany says, let’s wait snd see, I think it’s all gonna be fine, at the End if the Day it’s only gonna be an long Advertisement for Games we probably never gonna play or ending be in our Backlog😂

Still disappointed tho, thats is a Partner Showcase🙃

I eish all a sunny Weekend. Next Week gonna be wild😎

I think Tom clarified he was talking about M+R gameplay reveal. So maybe a mention in the direct then Ubisoft does some sort of stream or presentation the next day?
Yeah. Tom's "something then" is the gameplay on June 29 and that's unrelated to the Direct. It's two different things but some may have conflated them as a singular event -- hence the expectation of the 29th in contrast to my 28th.

Well that's even better in my opinion. A mini direct and then updates on M+R the next day? Honestly I dig it.

Wait, so M+R isn't in the Partner Showcase? Or it'll be there, but only in a smaller capacity?

Cool. So a Mario + Rabbids trailer on June 28 in the partners direct. Then Ubisoft will show more gameplay the following day?
