The real question is why would Nintendo only do a partner/mini direct?

They're not short of games to showcase, they're literally sitting on like 3 games right now that are basically finished, and that's just unannounced games. Splatoon 3, Bayonetta 3, Pokemon SV, Advance Wars, Mario Kart 8 DLC, Mario + Rabbids SoH, Zelda BotW2, the next wave of N64 games, one more Xenoblade reminder/trailer (which had the 4chan leak), Mario Strikers DLC, etc.

Then there's Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime HD, (if they dare do it) Everybody 12 Switch, 3rd party games, indie games. potentially Grezzo's game, or if they're ballsy, MP4. They're not struggling to fill a release schedule or have nothing to talk about. It makes no sense to only have a mini or partner direct unless they're storing up for a big showcase later this year to coincide with the Switch 2/Pro.

What is everyone's thoughts about this? And no, I don't want to hear "because it's Nintendo and they do what they want".
It’s nice to have a conversation about this. On what we think Nintendos plan is here. I really think this is probably more Switch 2 related. I believe Nintendo is holding games back for a new Switch.

While the March 2020 Mini was less my taste, the January 2018 one was really good in my opinion. The World Ends with You remaster, Hyrule Warriors DE, Tropical Freeze, Mario Tennis Aces announcement, Odyssey update, Dark Souls Remastered announcement. That's a meaty mini, having rewatched it I'm down for a mini now

I think it’s because e3 was canceled and they decided to have a mini if it is one after sgf because they figured we can still show some stuff now and show the big hitters in September which is a little more than 2 months way. Here they can just date and show off games already announced

Summer direct:

Nintendo Direct Micro: 5 minutes long with 30 seconds long trailers for each game

Fall direct:

Nintendo Direct Mini: 15 minutes long with several trailers and gameplay footage

Just my guess 😅

I wouldn't mind them not wanting to talk about them until the system is announce to showcase the now Pro boosted or cross gen games/system in the best possible way. I'm imagining an August/September showcase with Splatoon 3 Pro boosted at launch, Bayonetta 3, Zelda, Mario Rabbids, Metroid Prime HD + 4, Xenoblade 3 Pro boosted, 3rd party games, Silksong, etc all showcased to come out over the course of Q4 2022 + Q1-2 2023

See, the optimist in me wants to think like this, but all the insiders abruptly flipping to “yes, but actually no” signals that something’s probably up

Maybe Nintendo just hates us and this is the result of them no longer being obligated to have an E3 presentation, idk

I hope pikmin 4 exists and releases for the switch. Why? Because i like to see visual improvements in the same gen, for example im happy that botw2 exists so i can see the improvements over a wii u 2016 game. Im happy nintendo sports exists so i can see the (MANY) improvements over wii sports club. ETC

Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase - June 2022:

  • Bayonetta 3 release date trailer (SEGA/PlatinumGames)
  • Mario+Rabbids release date trailer (Ubisoft)
  • Fire Emblem 18 announcement trailer (Intelligent Systems/Koei Tecmo)
  • 5-6 AA-indie new titles (Misc.)
  • Persona 3P, 4G, 5R announced (ATLUS)

Hypothetically, would fans be happy?

No. Keep persona away from the switch

This makes me the most sense to me. From what we can tell based on industry veterans, job listings, studio expansions and etc., they've invested so much into Retro and Prime 4 at this point that I can't ever see them sending it out to die at the end of the normal Switch life cycle. It's going to be the most traditionally "triple A", western-geared release in a long time.

I think they want to recapture that lightning in a bottle that Prime 1 sparked with the Gamecube (which was the best selling game in the franchise up to that point) and Dread + the Prime remake/remaster will be just the ticket on OG Switch to light the fire and "prime" (lol) the market for an insanely hyped Switch 2 + Prime 4 launch.

All of them. Each one

If they are revealing new hardware this year, I can see them doing that next month (as they've done previously, although those weren't "major" system upgrades so it could be later) and using next week, and I'm gonna use the word Mini Direct to showcase games coming out soon like Metroid Prime HD, WWHD/TPHD ports, M+R2 and Bayo 3 and using the bigger showcase/trailer next month to show more of BOTW2, Metroid Prime 4 and the likes.

Holy crap. That's a lot of pages since yesterday.

Seems people are excited for next week's Fire Emblem direct!

Having missed the Punch-Out discussion and deciding to skip the last 15 pages of doom posting, I just wanted to mention I'm surprised no one has pointed out that the Punch-Out domain times out in a similar manner to the Metroid domain prior to Dread's reveal.

A Switch 2/Pro announcement would have been leaked by now if it is next week. No way not even one journalist/insider would be so secretive about it, as such a leak would generate insane attention and clicks.

And I can count on like one pinky toe a person which wouldn't operate under the modus attention and clicks.

Bloomberg was one of the outlets that spoke of a Switch Pro IIRC and it turned out to be the OLED close to the week it was supposed to be announced, so they may be more cautious this time around to prevent it from happening again

I don't really think we should expect hardware announced next week, but there's no reason to assume journalists or insiders would know of an announcement in advance

Hell yeah. Quite hyped to see the grandpa knight in full action next week! Hoping for even more elderly units.

If this Mini/Partner Direct means there is going to be a big show with Switch 2, BotW 2 and Metroid Prime 4 later on, I'm all in.
I would be happier knowing those games will run on proper modern hardware, instead of having them now.

Bloomberg is literally the most cautious insider source we probably know of.

Other insiders (which have way less of a reputation to keep up especially in comparison to Bloomberg) would not even think twice about it.

Yeah, and if they don't know about it, why should we expect new hardware announced in any capacity?

Ya'll really did 10 more pages in a few hours while I was busy? This thread is going to combust if it keeps going at this speed
I think I'm drowning, asphyxiated~
I wanna break this spell that you've created~
You're something beautiful, a contradiction~
I wanna play the game, I want the friction~
You will be the death of me~
Yeah, you will be the death of me~

If they don't have a full size direct, I would assume it's because they've already announced most titles and would rather detail them in their own specific things later. I'm definitely expecting a Splatoon and Zelda direct, at least. Maybe they feel a normal direct isn't necessary just to show already announced titles. But this is all just speculation of course.

Nate said him and Andy compliment each other.

Post in thread 'VGC: “[Alanah] Pearce’s comments match with what VGC has been told, that Nintendo is planning a Direct later this month.”'

Alright, that should keep us going for the next 25 pages of discussion. He specifically said that his and Andy's info "complement" eachother. Their respective sources give them info that completes the others info. Andy is hearing info about a lot of third parties in a Direct it seems, leading him to believe it's a Partner Showcase. Nate is probably hearing some of the same, along with Mario + Rabbids 2. Now, we all probably all figured that out already, but I keep getting the feeling that this might be a brand new branding of Nintendo Direct, a one time thing like the Nintendo Spotlight was in E3 2017.

Lmao I wrote a whole paragraph ending up saying nothing new

I'm not expecting a Switch Pro announcement next week either, but if next week's Direct is a smaller one, then Nintendo might be waiting until H2 to do a more significant Direct. And new hardware would be the perfect excuse. I find it hard to believe that they're lacking in games to show right now
