Paper Mario Origami King went gold and was only announced after that, but you know, pandemic times.

That being said, I don't think it's outlandish Nintendo could announce a relatively unknown game next week and have it launch 2 months later. They've shown themselves capable of doing that several times this generation.

Doesn't mean I believe Zippo; we just shouldn't underestimate Nintendo's capacity to spring a surprise. But I wouldn't expect such a short marketing cycle for an internally developed DK.

annnd its a multiplayer shooter called Hyenas (dev: creative assembly)

classic sonic made an appearance in the trailer as a plastic toy

not announced for switch

I'm so tired of multiplayer games that all look goofy with comedy bits. Like how many of these do we need? Maybe I'm just getting old. I like my single player games. Guess I'm a rare breed?

y'all im gonna need you to put an NSFW tag if you're gonna start talking about Zippo sitting on donkey kong

So I'm seeing Zippo get brought up again and I thought I'd mention this.

General disclaimer: If anything ever comes up with Zippo, I wouldn't trust it. The TL;DR from what I recall is that they often don't have actual sources and often "pretend" the information they do have that's legit, when reality is they likely took it as random rumors and passed it off as legit sources. The information that is accurate is often taken from people who did have sources and tried to pass it off as their own (or they just got lucky with a rumor).

Do not trust ANYTHING that Zippo says.
Even if he offers Subway?

That's exactly why I think it's bullshit. DK will be a major title (especially if it's 3D) and Nintendo will give it a 3 or 4 month long hype cycle AT LEAST. If anything comes within the next few months it's going to be Zelda ports or 3-4 Switch.

DK going gold without being announced yet is the most outlandish rumor they've ever started. No way DK is coming out before September. It's bullshit.
Not defending him but we've been spending the past week discussing how Nintendo has been sitting on a finished FE for a year, DK, "going gold" does not in any way mean it's coming out before September

Going gold typically means that the game is being printed out on discs or cartridges. That doesn't happen until the game is a month or two away from release. A game can be finished before it goes gold.

If a new DK is actually shown next week then it will almost make up for if there isnt BOTW2 news. Just imagine a new game that potentially is better than Tropical Freeze.

Yeah Nintendo does quick launches but even Mario Oddssy was not gold by June when it launched thats just insane

Also not defending Zippo (and not saying I believe it), but saying a game has gone gold is such a weird rumor to make up out of the blue. Usually you say it'll be at a Direct, and then if it isn't you can say that plans changed.

I wonder what’s the longest a game has “gone gold” to release. I found the 2 months one. That seems like too short of a window for a new DK game.

Yeah, that would put it before Splatoon. There's no way. Also even if a game is finished, they would wait until close to release to go gold right? Is there any benefit to printing early?

Zippo might be confusing it for "DK is finished" which is possible if very easy to make up. He might have seen the "FE is finished" rumors and wanted a piece of it. He is an attention seeker after all. Zippo is just Samus Hunter but less annoying.

Has stinky horse been printed or was that just the cases/materials. Can’t remember the info on that specific part. That could be the longest gone gold wait, especially if it never sees the light of day.

Not sure about Stinky Horse, but Advance Wars cartridges are currently sitting in a warehouse somewhere. Who knows when that gets released?

The thing about this, is that there’s probably less of this genre of shooter than, like, most other genre of game. But because they’re all live-service always-online games, we don’t ever stop seeing them, even after they release. And because they are the sort of game that has to attract players to keep playing for months and months, the market for them is actually much smaller, unless they actively steal players from other games.

Hyenas legit looks like it would be a good time, and Creative Assembly are hugely talented. But for a more core gamer crowd (like us) it just looks like yet another game that requires you to put in hundreds of hours that we just don’t have.

I do wonder why a developer like Creative Assembly is being put on a game like this. Maybe like 4-5 years ago, you’d see that a big MP game like this can make more money than a niche single-player thing. But in an age of digital marketplaces, companies like Capcom and, I’d hope, SEGA, are starting to realise that a game’s success isn’t just about its launch week. These companies are making more money than ever from their back catalogues through digital sales years later. If anything, creating a new multiplayer IP feels like more of a risk. Just look at Hyper Scape.

Is there any reason Zippo is seen as so unreliable? I remember in the past he was seen as reliable, at least I think. Wasn't he the guy who broke Paper Mario, and Metroid? I'd like to believe he's right about DK.

His Paper Mario rumor was that it would be a return to the series roots, which (while a good game) it wasn't. Metroid was rumored years before he got into the game.

I've learned to expect disappointment from Sega announcements (not referring to platforms), so this was whatever.
Completely off-topic, but may I give you a quick sense of acknowledgement and admiration for your STELLAR taste in anime with that profile picture? Not many that I come across that have watched March comes in like a Lion, alright.

People from Era (myself included) remember all this stuff well, and it was not just this, it was dozens of things. Am not that guy who would point and say "look this insider got this and this wrong" but Zippo is really not believable.

Not Dread, but I believe he did know of Samus Returns. And the Paper Mario going back to its roots is subjective anyway. It was more like previous Paper Mario’s than the last 3 games.

I don't think Zippo was around during the Samus Returns era, that was a different leaker that also leaked Dread after SR came out.

In retrospect, I also find how he engaged directly with the community to feed us with lies really disgusting.
And don't want to bring Era, but he is banned there for a reason. I don't have any idea why is someone still believing anything he says.
