Anyway I doubt Alanah's rumor tbh, Nintendo has their shareholder meeting that day and I doubt they would do a big event on the same day. Next week or the week after are the strike zone for me

Genius move by Nintendo. Host the Direct during the investors meeting Q&A session. They'll be too busy getting hyped for Donkey Kong to ask when the Switch Pro is coming out!

When did we get in our heads that Nintendo doesn’t have directs the week when a game comes out

I swear they have before, multiple times.

Hell they’d have a direct and a full week of treehouse at E3 and launch a game the same week

On the other hand I can’t recall any time in the switch era when they had a general the day of an investors meeting

Alanah seemed super confident about it... And it lines up with the info we have from Nate, specifically-

-That it will be in June
-It will be later than usual (if that's the part of the question where the answer was hidden)

The end of June surely is later than usual. I dunno, I think we've got our date. Would love if Nate could corroborate Alanah's timing, but, I know he doesn't want the press and the ninjas and such

Oh God I hope Alanah knows the type of shit storm she's in for. If I knew a direct date before it was announced I wouldn't tell anyone I didn't immediately know.

Well, I remember they did a Direct one day before Samus Returns launched in 2017 I think? But that was a 3DS game so.

What's the June shareholder about?

Cause if it is what they have planned for the immediate future, they can tell their shareholders. Go to youtube?

At this point, I think we should assume June 29 and be delighted if it turns up any sooner

But who am I kidding, I'm gonna check Twitter at 10 am tomorrow

For me, it would make better sense to do it the week TH releases and give it a final push, but obviously they know more than I.

I feel like Nintendo often doesn't highlight games that are about to release during Directs. Like Mario Maker 2 released like two weeks after the E3 Direct and that game was only in the sizzle real towards the end.

Just waiting for Nate to post some googly eyes. ;)

Didn't Alanah leak or at least one of the people who got out ahead of something else Nintendo-related last year? I really don't remember but this isn't the first time she's "leaked" something. I don't even know if she was right then tbh lmao. I remember a discussion about how weird it was for a Sony employee to leak something about Nintendo.

Either way, I don't think it's hard to believe she knows something. She is probably well connected since she worked in the media and now works for Sony.

Look at is this way: Assuming the Direct isn't this week, but is still in June, then it's pretty much guaranteed to either be on the 22/23rd or 29/30th. So Alanah saying it's the 29th is basically a 25% chance, it's not unlikely or anything. Wouldn't surprise me.

Kat Bailey on the latest NVC also mentioned "the last week of June" for the Direct more than once. Granted, it was said in passing and more just hypothetical, definitely not saying it'll be then or anything, but still. Makes me wonder if there's something in the air, or a general feeling among those in the know that it'll be that week.

This has never mattered to Nintendo. They barely show games coming soon to a direct
In the September 2019, they showed DQ, Link's Awakening and Daemon X Machina, all those games were releasing in that same month.

I feel sorry for Nate who thinks "Let's see what's the latest on Famiboards."

"Oh dear god"

There's nothing specifically surprising if they decide to do it on the 29th but I question a direct date leaking that far in advance. I doubt they're sending out info about the direct to low level people (who would presumably leak it) 17 days in advance. It's far enough away that things could still change and they probably don't want to be preparing footage. Sus

She's not a journalist anymore.

At least, doesn't work on the field as of now.
She’s not a journalist anymore, she works for Santa Monica at Sony

hm, ok. She probably has a point. I wonder if this could bring issues to her sources, but by the way she said it, so openly though not with details, it wouldn't be so easy to find them, i think

the EA email that revealed FE would be in a direct was about a month out from it happening, directs are planned far longer than you think

She said to temper expectations, implying she knew of the contents of last year's Direct or at least, that's how people interpreted it.

I'm talking about the specific date. I'm sure everyone working with Nintendo knows the direct is coming soon. But why would they be giving low level employees like localizers for example the date 17 days in advance? These things usually leak because localizers were preparing footage and they make little enough money that occasionally one of them is willing to risk their job for the attention. Unless she has an actual higher level source I don't buy it this far in advance.
But I'm not actually doubting the date itself, because there's nothing really against it.
