About TP/WWHD, Zell was one of our most reliable leakers and they said that those were coming. OTOH, that was a couple years ago, plans change and who knows when they may come. I do think it's somewhat unlikely Nintendo releases three 3D Zelda re-releases back to back like this as their retail Zelda titles, and that's not even counting NSO games. So, my gut feeling is no TP/WW this year. However, I should note I played the re-releases and they still feel too fresh in my mind for me to want to play them right now, so I do have some bias here.

Personally, I think we may see a 2D Zelda remake, a smaller Zelda spinoff or indie collab, the former potentially being an NSO or download only title. I think the 2D Zelda remake is much less likely if it has the production values of LA. More likely if it's something like FSA. I wouldn't rule out something like an Adventure of Link remake either.

All that being said, if I interpreted the sales projections for this FY correctly, it's likely we'd get BOTW 2 this FY. But I understand I may be incorrect in my thinking there.

Another 2D Zelda remake before a new 2D Zelda would be so demoralizing to me.

I'm curious, what time would this Direct air? Usual E3 time e.g. 5pm BST? Or the usual general Direct time e.g. 11pm BST? I'm hoping it's 5pm BST just so I can watch it live lol.

Idk what time it would be in BST, but if it’s on June 15th it’ll be the time they do their E3 Directs

Yeah based on the Neon White Embargo its going to be at the normal direct time for E3 which is 9 am PST/12 PM EST

In general, it seems like the people who want a new 2D Zelda are the ones who think TP/WW HD isn't happening (or shouldn't at all), and the people who missed out on the HD versions and don't have the financial fortitude to "just get a Wii U" these days are thirsty for the Switch ports of TP/WW and think it's happening.

Honestly, if we don't get the Wii U Zelda ports this year I'm going to be majorly bummed out. I don't think proximity to BotW 2 matters at all. I know Pokemon can be a special case, but this past year for Pokemon has shown that if an IP is popular enough, releases don't really cannibalize sales of each other on the Switch. Plus, I don't believe any Pokemon game has gotten the critical reception BotW did. BotW 2 will sell great no matter how many 3D Zeldas are out beforehand.

I would love, love, love to finally get my hands on the HD versions of my favorite 3D Zeldas.

I don’t know, it does seem like it can be coincidental that the embargo’s end next week on the 15th. Would Nintendo really have a direct where there show off a bunch of indies that are shadow dropped the same day? I may be mistaken but at most they usually have 1-2 shadow drops in a direct?

Of course it’ll be at the usual time because that would make it 2am for me for peak suffering.

I’d love to be wrong and have it be a 6am one which is a kinda nice get up early and make a hot coffee while watching time.

I mean TMNT also releases that same day, not to mention they're both shadowdrops. Nintendo has had a bunch in previous directs that they bring up quickly. I think its all but confirmed. Not to mention the guy that leaked the Neon White thing stated that he has other games that corroborate this direct claim, but that those are under NDA so he can't share them, and at this point that guy is legit beyond a shadow of a doubt

I still have my theory with WW/TP that it's a monkey's paw situation and it's a two pack of the Gamecube ISOs running on a modified version of the Gamecube emulator used in 3D All-Stars. This would be an extremely Nintendo move and also not require anything from Tantalous at all. It also wouldn't have to be treated like a big release because of how low key of a release that could be so BotW2 proximity wouldn't matter.

I think that's where we differ in opinion. A remake does not equate to a new Zelda to me. I've played them all at releas and replayed them multiple times, to replay one with new graphics does not really make a difference to me.
Yeah, I am in the same boat.

I mean, in a way, I am glad we have gotten these remakes / remasters in the past few years, because a lot of folks were able to play these awesome adventures for the first time due to that. But personally, they don't interest me because I have beaten them all and games are way too expensive where I live for me to double-dip, regardless of the new coat of paint they may have.

Plus, we haven't had a new 2D Zelda in almost a decade, which is absolutely ridiculous. So I am hoping Nintendo and their partners will use the Link's Awakening engine to make something new at this point. The Oracle games and Minish Cap are utterly fantastic, and deserve to reach new people. But what 2D Zelda needs right now is something new.

Call me a contrarian I guess but I'd prefer the GC roms over the HD versions, despite some minor gameplay changes.

This coudl actually be an Summer Game Fest announcement, tho still on #TeamJune15

I could see it either way for TMNT, but I still think that the Neon White thing is a literal confirmation, there isn't really a need to look into it further imo, we just need to wait for the announcement at this point

They wouldn't need Tantalus anyway. Not that we can or should make any definite assumptions about their involvement in the first place, regardless of those comments from a few weeks ago.

If it’s really at that time (E3 time) then we can expect an announcement on Monday instead of Tuesday.
I doubt it will be announce today or tomorrow because of Strikers

I mean at this point I would believe leaked embargo dates over Nate, the 15th is pretty much all but confirmed. Nate may have just gotten mixed up or gotten some wrong info. It'd be nice if he could corroborate though
Did he say it was another day and not the 15th?

Because the embargo date matches what I got from some of his hints, so I’m confused why people are saying he needs to confirm anything.

He said that what we learned from the leak doesn’t match his infos

Nate said his info doesn't match, but this is pretty concrete for the 15th already, so he may have gotten some bad info

yeah announcement tomorrow is unlikely, but today is a big chance, especially since they did Three hopes previews and striker reviews on the same day when they didn't have to

On one hand am like: yes there is announcement today, but on the other they could really do it on Monday, there is still hope for today tho only because Treehouse.

I hope that's the case tbh, I'm tired of waiting and knowing when the direct will be will finally let me study in peace lmao
(and that's why Nintendo will wait the moment when I have done my exam, it's my fault, I'm sorry)

Where is smoke, there is fire. People got wrong info all the time, no one is perfect nor me or you. Maybe Nate's info got misinterpeted, that happens all the time. Like 2 years ago, when he was only one who was saying that Direct in coming in July 2020, and it ended up being Partner Showcase, he don't knew that it's not normal Direct, but he knew that Direct date. Remember this happens all the time, and that's completely fine.

Most of the time inside information someone gets is outdated to a certain degree. Vergeben with the Smash Bros leak on Minecraft was a good example of him knowing quite some stuff but in the end got information that was outdated and only later was it being revealed.

That said the 15th seems likely for now. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised it aint the case :p.

I agree with a lot of that theory. I totally agree that there won’t be a big Zelda release before BotW2. So I never bought into the idea that WWHD and TPHD would come to switch as a $60 bundle, 6 months before BotW2.

But wrapping the GC versions in an emulator like Super Mario Sunshine? Never occurred to me before but I could totally see that. If there’s any truth to the rumor of these games coming to switch, thats probably how.

I feel that would get so much pushback if it was presented that way despite the value proposition. People have vocally wanted the HD versions for years on Switch so for that to happen there would be a lot of anger. Sunshine never had an HD remake, so there was nothing better to point to when asking for more in that case. Not so with WW and TP HD existing.

There definitely would be work involved in porting those games since some things got pushed onto the Game Pad, but it’s certainly not unsolvable since the original versions were GameCube games.

I don’t know how to feel about the odds of them this year either way. Feels like it equally makes perfect sense while not being needed either (how far into 2023 is BOTW2 being the big question). I do think they’ll come eventually though.

Happy Thirsty Thursday everyone! Please speculate responsibly.

Yeah it’s been discussed alongside Neon White. Really looking forward to it!
That would be the perfect shadow drop after Silksong. There's also some smoke to the this since last night LRG also detailed the physical editions they're producing. I think they don't usually give out the details on stuff too far in advance of the pre-orders going live, so I wouldn't be surprised if they go up next week in co-ordination with the digital launch.

Yup, usually the digital release isn’t too far behind the physical release for Limited Run when it isn’t out already. Pretty torn whether to go physical or digital for TMNT.

I'm totally going physical because you know Konami and LRG aren't going to pass up the money that a physical edition of the Konami TMNT collection will bring them. So that's an easy pairing for me on the shelf.

Also, mad props to LRG for the attention to detail on the CE designs. Never would've thought they'd go as far as to use the trade dress on the cartoon show VHS tapes for the slipcover.

Even if TMNT Shredder's Revenge also shows up at SGF, doesn't stop it from also appearing in the Nintendo Direct next week
