Co-miserate with fellow NDPers in my riding over the Ontario election and help with taking down signs 🙃
ayyyyyy lmao

but yeah we literally got married in the husk of Ontario Place. had like a two second panic where I was like “there’s no way they’d turn it into a polling station… is there?” when I saw the election date

I’m still expecting a second N64 NSO roadmap this month by the time Pokémon snap drops. Could be independent of a direct but if they got some big third party grabs could be in it

Ten Years Gone is such a good song. I didn't get a chance to really dive into the LedZep discography until university, but TYG stood out so high above the rest and I still enjoy it a great deal...10+ years later
Led Zeppelin is my favorite band of all time, and Ten Years Gone is in their top 10 without question. I've never seen another band who could rock so hard also deliver work as melodically beautiful as The Rain Song, Thank You, and Going to California.

It was an April morning when they told us we should go
As I turn to you, you smiled at me
How could we say no?

Building this beauty and catching up on a bunch of Youtube video essays I've missed:

Feels like life has been going at 100mph for the last two weeks for me, so a day of doing f-all will be lovely.

I'm also gonna use it as a 'final day' before I start genuinely trying to lose weight again. I say final day because my Mum's doing a big jubilee 'crappy food' dinner so I can't exactly say no lol.

Because, fuck, I feel awful and I felt so much better when I was working on myself more. But that's more personal stuff lol

But it also sounds like it could take a while due to parts availability and even the Japan release is constrained
True. I know the western TG16 was very limited due to COVID/supply issues. Let’s hope they can at least get a solid chunk in the not too distant future. More worried about Working Designs licensing hell than waiting for the release.

O🅱en 🅱oll: How does one boost voter turnout? 33% of Ontarians come to the polls, of those 41% (so like...17% of the entire eligible voter population) give a former Etobicoke high school drug dealer a second term of majority government.
some real thoughts on this:

Canada and Ontario have some of the most friction-free elections I have ever experienced. It was so simple for me to vote, to get mail-in ballots, etc etc etc.

so part one is that many (esp white) Canadians have it so easy with no real meaningful concept of what it is to have to fight to be able to vote even on a day-of basis — meaning they take it for granted

also, Canadians — especially left-leaning Canadians — really have no concept of what’s at stake because of the overwhelming mythology of the country

most vaguely left-leaning people in Canada are so hopped up on the idea that it already is and always has been “close enough,” or do the “well at least we’re not America” thing, or think “well TV taught me the Canadian flag meant inclusion so can the truckers flying it REALLY be racist?” — they all know the vague threat of “what’s going on in the US” but know none of the specifics or details, or are incredulous about what things actually mean or how they actually happened

which is how you get all this recurring shock and “what? no… how?” mixed with shit like “well Doug Ford didn’t outright kill us during the pandemic and I don’t love the conservatives but everybody VOTE FOR ANYONE BUT THE NEW BLUE PARTY”

subtlety is lost on Canadians because everything is subtle

political rhetoric is simultaneously overblown and underblown (which is how we get even some of the more baffling Jagmeet Singh statements – and don’t get me wrong I’d take him over the rest of these fucks any day and like him — but he’s always trying to position the NDP as let down by both the conservatives and liberals in a way that isn’t always attached to a clear principle, since that’s part of the strategy)

and every shitty thing that’s happened here structurally either directly affects First Nations people — where the average white Canadian gets the impression “the government has been publicly apologizing to them forever and obviously we’re so sorry all of this stuff that has nothing to do with us happened, so is that actually an ongoing problem?” — or happens so slowly that no one rolls back and connects the dots (see the “Yeah Harper sucked but he didn’t do any lasting damage” notions, or uh the ongoing privatization of Toronto transit that’s the effect of shit two decades ago — while still being one of the best public transit systems in North America)

and part of why Doug Ford is so fuckin’ dangerous, other than giving the “New Blue” shitheads a further right to aim for in retaliation, is all the lowkey subtle shit he’s doing that the bored white majority isn’t gonna hurt from for years and years

like subtle experiments in privatizing healthcare during COVID that caused issues then that are ongoing

like how, slowly but surely, critical meds are dropping off of Trillium and therefore becoming completely unaffordable to the people on ODSP who actually need them

which, now that Ford has been re-elected, means my partner could be next in the line of fire. they already have a friend who was denied their meds based on this.

so this has mostly become a rant and I’m not sure I’m describing what I’m trying to super well, but there’s a whole Canadian cultural… thing that makes it harder to get people invested in it

the stakes aren’t enough or don’t affect them

it’s so convenient and accessible that it has become an inconvenience

they don’t feel strongly so they don’t want to step on any toes with their uncertain opinions

everything bad is seen as an isolated event since grasping the throughlines is a little more nebulous here

Canada’s marketed as a “liberal country that values multiculturalism” and that’s enough for a lot of these people without knowing specifics or realities, meaning they expect that to be true no matter who wins an election

they don’t see the full picture and are incredulous when you tell them something they said or did is in fact fucking racist bullshit

they think that since the country is the perceived baseline, everything is a matter of inconsequential opinion

etc etc etc etc etc

ayyyyyy lmao

Oh jeez haha, yeah, not fun having it turned into a polling station 😅 But that's rad as hell, didn't even realize that was a possibility to do it there!

I’m still expecting a second N64 NSO roadmap this month by the time Pokémon snap drops. Could be independent of a direct but if they got some big third party grabs could be in it
I sincerely hope so too; Christ knows I'd be truly upset if we're left in the dark after all this. I'd actively cancel my EP and just mod my V1 Switch at that point to get my N64 emulation sorted.

Led Zeppelin is my favorite band of all time, and Ten Years Gone is in their top 10 without question. I've never seen another band who could rock so hard also deliver work as melodically beautiful as The Rain Song, Thank You, and Going to California.
I would have loved to see them live, I imagine just the ethereal experience of one of their concerts in their prime would have been otherworldly.

...and now I'm in the mood to spin IV on the turntable haha

Here's to hoping life does slow down and gives you a chance to catch your breath before long, friend 💜 But I do love that Van Gogh set! I've been thinking I want to pick it up myself as a little summer project to work on (knowing I can probably build it in an afternoon with enough greens and lo-fi lol)

Reading this, I concur so hard that I want to take a single, long drag from an entire cigarette and just sigh, because you're absolutely correct, and I guess it goes to show even when I don't think I have the rose-coloured glasses on, I have the contacts stuck to my eyeball.

I was talking with my friends about it too, and despite the ease of voting, they still have yet to implement online voting as an option. Not to say paper ballots need to be taken away, but just...we have the technology, and as my friend said it can be kept secure using the MyGCKey that's already in use for EI and CRA. I want to believe that the lack of voting polls open at universities and colleges is intentional simply because of a great congregation of young people of eligible voting age that are more open to progressive policies, but like you said, so many left-leaning Canadians simply think that it's not going to change anyways because "it could be worse"...not realizing that we're all sitting in the same pot of boiling water and only a handful of us are recognizing we're in a bad place.

In some ways I guess it was foolishly optimistic to expect something so drastic to change overnight just like that, but in some twisted way reading your words brings me some small comfort knowing that this isn't in my head, I'm not crazy, and it is as bad if not worse than I'm making it out to be 🙃

Christ this revelation makes me seriously want to take up smoking but somehow I feel it's not a good idea to jeopardize my health with the way OHIP is being gutted

I’m taking my dad to the movies to see Top Gun Maverick on Sunday. It’ll be his first non-medical out-of-house outing since his cystectomy back at the beggining of May. He’s really hyped! ✈️

Its the weekend
One of the online autograph places I go on is doing a signing with none other than Andrew Garfield. Won’t know the price till next week but hopefully it’s not crazy expensive

Seriously, probably the most hyped autograph signing I’ve seen in a while since finding the online signings. These places are legit as well.

Of course when I try to take a break from things like this, something like this happens

Thinking about the Sega Genesis NSO app and how weird the release schedule has been on it.

- October 25 2021 (Launch)
- December 16 2021
- March 16 2022
- April 21 2022

It looked like it was going to be every 2-3 months, but then there was only a month between the last two updates. It’s so unpredictable.

how are we feeling if there is no DK in the next direct but instead an odyssey 2?

I was thinking earlier and I have an "EPD Tokyo Wishlist", excluding things we never can guess.

1. Bowser's Fury elaboration
2. Galaxy 3
3. Odyssey 2
4. New DK with the same "reinvention" energy as Kirby and the Forgotten Land
5. Captain Toad 2

Bit close, but Odyssey 2 edges it out in terms of hype I think.

look your take on it makes ME feel less insane

I have the unique vantage of being born Canadian, moving to the US from 12 on, and coming back here well into adulthood

it’s really hard to explain it and make it clear when you haven’t lived it

oh, no, they didn’t! I was just worried they might

also you can have a wedding anywhere if it’s outdoors

actually you can have a wedding anywhere

it’s just much easier if it’s just you two, a photographer, your phone for streaming, and you don’t give a fuck about permits

I mean most important thing for me is the return of K Rool even if they turn him more into a rival
It's the destiny of every villain in fiction to be a rival character one day; no use getting around it. :ROFLMAO:

Anyways:

I'm watching this right now and this gives me a nice bit of nostalgia for the GameTrailers videos from years before where they did videos examining trailers and videos released by game devs frame by frame.

I live for that thing haha

Playable K Rool with his smash moveset would be something totally wild and different for a Dk game. Plus TF shows you could do it too

Diablo was never good if you hate grinding for loot which I guess I can understand.
Diablo 2 gave me my best gaming memory. One of the guys on my floor in college was playing then tried to do some inventory management thing. At any rate, he dropped this rare armor to do some sort of adjustment, then the dorm internet went out, and he was kicked from the game or something to that effect. Needless to say the armor was gone. The reason this was the best memory was I was walking back from class and all I see is the third floor window shattering. He was so mad from the wasted hours of grinding that he had punched his hand through the window.

About to impulse buy Skyward Sword HD bc it's digitally on sale at Walmart and I'm mad about getting covid a second time

backlog be damned

I suppose no game is ever good if it's not your kind of game.

Assassin's Creed was never good (because walking slowly behind a bland NPC for 30 minutes makes me want to cry)

Disappointed, but that's the life we DK fans lead.

I mean, Odyssey 2 would be cool, but I've had my fill with Mario on this system. Let DK have a chance in the sun for a change.

Just completed Metroid Dread the second time since completing it back in October but on hard mode and somehow did it 5 hours.

I can confirm that Dread is a freaking good game man. The movement, action, exploration is freaking good and despite criticising the soundtrack back then, I actually appreciate it now.

I can aslo confirm that Samus is perhaps the most badass Nintendo character.

Man, Resident Evil 4 and Space MArines II make me want to get an Xbox X / PS5. I lean towards a PS5 but

  • It is ugly as sin. For real. I really don't want to buy an oversized router from 2008.
  • There is no way I can get one with these shortages

I wanna!!! I'm between offices now though, so my computer time is kinda wonky. But I actually have your itch.io tab still open so that I won't forget once I'm settled. 😅
It's just as well you haven't gotten around to it, there were a bunch of bugs I hadn't noticed because I'd been playing windowed! Whoops.

Fixed now.

Oh no! Feel better soon! Skyward Sword HD is really good, you should go for it!

I hide my PS5 behind my TV, I almost never actually see it 😅
