Rumour NSO GB/C and GBA emulators allegedly leaked

From the same account posting vids of the emulator running on Switch. Is this also real or is this just a modder messing around with other stuff? Also why would Nintendo pay to get Mega Man 1-6 on NES NSO when there is already a Mega Man collection on Switch

The Cotton Anthology had a decent Saturn emulator. Overall it has good compatibility, but it suffers from input lag.

Other than the fan-translations, I'd really miss the fan-colorization hacks. Mario Land 2 DX and Metroid II DX look astonishingly good in colors, and I can't wait for Kaeru DX.
Oh for sure, but for those handful of translated games.... I have them on my second 3DS lol Sooooooooo. May save myself the 300 bucks I have on pre-order and just figure out a way to fix the speaker on my GBC which only transmits sounds if I use headphones lol

The GBA emulator build leaked dates to 2020, so they’ve been tinkering away at it for awhile. The build here is one very much in the midst of emulator compatibility testing; a lot of specific instances set up for testing link cable features in different games, and more done behind the scenes.

Feature wise they had save states and rewinds working, and online play (including random matchmaking) in testing.
GB/GBC finished testing in early 2021. They were ready for release over a year ago -- even ahead of N64/Genesis. Nintendo sat on them.

At the time, GBA simply wasn't at that stage of internal testing.

It's real, but this build of the NES app is incredibly old, dated to October 2019. Would not take that as a guarantee that any of those games are coming to the service.

I mean, we have Genesis collection on Switch and Bloodlines is on NSO and the Castlevania Collection.

Anything could happen, although in this case, it is a waste since we have the collection because I rather have more NES deep cuts like Little Samson

For Pokémon fans, there is a “Pokémon - Trade” option in the GBA emulator right above the three Golden Sun options, so that could hint/confirm the GB & GBA mainline Pokémon games coming to NSO

I mean the emulator is out there and people are playing it. How much more certain can you get?
It's no big thing to run emulators on Switch at present. As someone who doesn't follow the behind-the-scenes scene closely, I wouldn't immediately know the difference between something official and something unofficial presented with a goofy codename.

Just give me the two Golden Sun games and include the save transfer instead of the code, there's a reason I never bothered finishing them on the WiiU...

I know this is a development build, but please Nintendo, this is exactly how I want the NSO games to be displayed. Just the game image and black surrounding it, with aspect ratio and filter options. No borders or players icons in single-player.

This string from the emulator may be of interest to you then:

Now, if you perhaps forced the SGB mode to load in with, say, DK’94, it doesn’t display 100% accurately yet, but it’s clearly something they’re taking into consideration.
Well that's certainly neat. Obviously it would be cool if any game could run with SGB functions, but if it's just for games that were enhanced by it I'll take it.

Someone with knowledge would have to look at it closely to be sure (is it built with official tools and not homebrew ones, does the compiled code look like open source emulators, ect.) but faking this seems like a whole lot more work than it's worth.

If I can play Golden Sun for the first time on NSO in 2022 my soul will ascend until I am born anew

GBA seems like something that can double NSO expansion subs off Pokemon alone , it was going to happen at one point imo

This is huge! I really doubt this is fake.
We're pretty much expecting GB(C) for the base subscription and GBA for the expansion pack. The service is finally shaping up to be a decent deal, it just needs more games.

If we get GCN games as well, the €50 price tag will be something I'll 100% recommend to others.

Heck, I wouldn't mind a more expensive tier (€80ish) if it meant a big library including third party games and (hopefully) DS support.

Right now, the amount of games available is abysmal.

GB/GBC was always guessed but I'm very happy to see GBA. Zero Mission will live on.

And if that's true about the Pokemon games, that's a gamechanger. That alone will get lots and lots of subs.

If these are real I could see them keeping GB/GBC on the lower tier subscription and adding GBA to the higher tier with N64.

Hopefully they don't just add both to the higher tier.

With the Pokemon Company being what it is, I could also see the Pokemon games being charged a la carte, or them adding a "Pokemon Tier" that includes Pokemon HOME.

@MondoMega coming in with the goods, as usual. Very promising stuff on the GBA front, even if we don't get all the games. But maybe GBA on the expansion could mean more funds toward harder to get games?

Really hope they don’t wait until September tbh. Thoug i bet they announce booth at the same time with GBA being for expansion.

I swear... if GBA Chain of Memories gets rereleased while the PS2 remake is on Cloud only...

(The GBA original is leagues better anyway, but still.. what the heck is going on with Square/Disney?...)

Pokémon Stadium with GB compatibility will be a historic day. That's what I'm most excited about.

huh, I hadn't thought about this. having all of those games accessible on my switch and new squads ready to transfer immediately would be pretty great. can't imagine the word of mouth being too good if GBA is tied to EP and TPC asks for even more cash, though

Wouldn't be surprised that when Pokémon Bank irremediably closes their response to that would be having old gens on NSO.
This is just speculation tho.

Wait, if this stuff is leaking now could that hint towards us getting something from Nintendo very soon?
Not necessarily. These have been in the works for a while; we had reports about GB/GBC emulation last August/September, for example, but got N64 and Genesis first.

Do you have any info if GameCube is too in the works for a possible release this or next year?

I mean, if we ho back, GameCube was rumored as the first ever platform by Eurogamer shortly before the announcement of the Switxh.

Wonder what happened with it since then…

Do we know how this stuff has leaked, presumably it’s been taken from Nintendo’s NSO servers which to me sounds like they must be close if they have uploaded all this stuff? Could be a drop during an April-June Direct (This is me being wishful haha)

The GB/GBC stuff appears to be a very early build, so it's possible this came from NERD itself. I don't think there's anything here that indicates an imminent release, even if I do expect at least GB/GBC to launch this year.

This is entirely unrelated to any Gigaleak; the files came from a dumped EDEV Switch unit, which appeared to be wiped but these files were recoverable from the NAND; and due to the date of these files I wouldn't take them as a sign of anything happening soon.

Nintendo... Dear Nintendo... Just let me purchase these types of games instead of locking them exclusively behind the NSO '''''service'''''
That would defeat the point of the service they want people to sign up for. Besides they’ve done that once already and saw the result for themselves.

I'm really pleased to see this and I'm looking forward to getting to experience and re-experience gems from that era. And to seeing others get to share that same joy, with under-appreciated standouts like Donkey Kong '94.

@Mewzard
Oh the list has Super Robot Wars OG generations, that could happen. I wanna say Atlus translated it but both they and BN support NSO, it had an international release and it doesn’t have licensed characters

Won’t happen, unfortunately. Having someone be subscribed to their service is much more profitable long-term for them than a one-time sale.

Tight, GBA has a lot of gems. I hope we get FFVI GBA on it.

I wonder if we're due for a Direct soon? Like April or May instead on June thanks to the cancellation of E3. There's also been some other stuff leaked recently like that Xenoblade 3 key art.

I’m thinking GB/C and GBA launch at the same time, with GBA locked behind the Expansion Pack. Could be a June Direct shadowdrop.

I predict (based on nothing but feeling) there will not be any corresponding hardware (controllers, etc) for these. The next NSO Classic Controller will be PC Engine when that releases in 2023.
