Discussion Switch 2's DLSS implementation code has been stolen/leaked from NVidia

Yes? They do it all the time. New console announcements don't put a freeze on current console sales in practice and never have. And as has been pointed out, that time is required for partners to get geared up for a launch.
Well yes, but this is different, those other consoles were announced after years of sales declines, the Switch however is still selling out en masse and Nintendo are looking to sell another 20 million this year, and this is a new situation for everyone.

3ds had 2ds, switch has switch lite
3ds had 3ds XL, switch has Oled
3ds had New 3ds, it would make sense that Switch got a more powerful revision, the "gimmick" and the defining feature being "play now in 4k!"

I'm really torn right now.
My launch switch is aging and I'd like to buy an OLED. But I'd be pissed to see a "pro" releasing a few months later...

I'm in the same boat, except I'm contemplating to buy the Steam Deck bc I got fed up with the "Pro" never releasing. But with all these rumors surfacing again, and the Deck being harder and harder to get fast, I don't know what to do >,<"

I could see the product line-up for this upcoming holiday shopping season becoming Switch Lite at 199, OLED dropping to 299 and replacing the current Base Switch (which gets a stock-clear price of $250) and this thing (Switch Deluxe/Plus/2/whatever) coming in at 399.
Considering that in the latest financial report that Furukawa said that the OLED has a smaller profit margin than the OG Switch, I am not sure it makes financial sense to drop its price further, especially considering its short life span so far.

If anything I would expect the Lite to be discontinued, or at least reduce to only one or two colours.

void has no substance
Tell that to this guy

That isn't necessarily true either in the case of Nintendo or anyone else. PS4 wasn't experiencing "years of sales declines" when PS5 was announced, and it also didn't stop selling after. Wii was still selling fairly strongly when Wii U was announced. If you've waited until your previous console is in the sales gutter before you announce the next one, what you've done is to set yourself up for a couple of very bad years.

And in any case, what you're saying doesn't mean we won't get an announcement of Switch 2 well before it releases, it only means that announcement may not come soon.

Not gonna hold my breath, but yeah, I think it would make sense to wait at least until july before buying an OLED model, just in case...

We shall see, I hope we won’t all have to wait too long :)

So what are we thinking?

- Announcement before E3, E3 is software blowout?
- E3 shows a bunch of games looking/performing shockingly well, hardware announcement in July?
- FamiBoards user Derachi crumbling into dust as more and more time passes without a more performant Switch unit?

Yup. It's Ampere. This also means that Switch 2 will feature raytracing support (though how well it'll actually work in practice of course remains to be seen).

Yeah, the DLSS stuff excites me, but the ray-tracing not so much. Full blown ray-tracing is jaw-dropping, but this hardware won't have anywhere near enough RT cores to pull that off. Maybe some audio stuff or very light global illumination. I wouldn't expect anything more.

Keep in mind this has been said to have very limited RT capability.
I feel that was not a full picture expectation

doesn't need to be. RT is quite scalable. there are RT methods that even run on the XBO

So does that mean we will be able to play Xenoblade games at native resolution in handheld mode? But then again, they need to patch it which I hope they do lol.

Feels more like a post-E3 reveal like the OLED to me still. I guess it depends on how much they want to push the enhancements or whatever.

announcement in July 2023 for a release March 2024.

Wouldn’t that impact Christmas 2023? That’s Nintendos biggest selling period.

probably but they need to announce it at some point before if they want to have it out in early 2024, they can't do a January reveal to March release so something will have to give

Then it will be a November release. At least thats my thought.

Similar to the first Switch. Announcement October of next year or around that period with release in Spring 2024, potential EOD 2024.

I kinda expect Nintendo to confirm either the next device is on the way end of the year or early next year.

Don’t forget Bloomberg who gets called into question so many times around these online forums. They said 11 devs had dev kits and they still had people going at them. You don’t make up a big number like 11

If that was gonna happen, it would've already have been announced by now.

No console has ever been announced with less than 1.5 years of lead-time before launch (in fact, the Wii U is the only one which had such a short announcement to release window; and look at how that turned out!). You need time for developers to start preparing games for the platform, time for retailers and other partners to buy-in with the console etc.

Game consoles aren't smartphones, they can't just be thrown out into the world on a whim because of how many different developers and partners need to be involved.

Even a March 2023 release would be a history-first for how tight the window is... Nintendo are very very late with this successor announcement in general.
Wii U was announced at E3 2011. 1.5 years befare release.

I don't see how this leak changes anything about the release date predictions. We already knew this existed. I think this releases either spring or holidays 2024.

He was so right they renamed the chipset after him

2048 Cuda Cores isn't a million miles off of the 2560 that's in the RTX3050...

Of course, there's a million other factors that would come into play when evaluating total performance (memory bandwidth, RAM speed/size etc), but that looks like a promising start to me :)

not true, they just made me realize no one knows anything outside of nintendo

Things are more solid this time though, aren't they ? No insider this time, but the proof of the existence of this model.
The question is now when, not if.

oh definitely, this isnt some bullshit rumor its an actual product leak. you probably didn't need that leak to know a switch 2 was being worked on but at least it confirms Nintendo was somewhat researching DLSS.

people pretending to have any clue when this product is releasing though can't be trusted

If Bloomberg is reporting something, there's obviously smoke somewhere. They're not some little indie paper. I don't get how people don't get this. Most of the discourse you'll see around things like this is from teenagers or adult babies on twitter. They want things when they want it.

Announcement will probably before the Summer direct if it's releasing year, and it will show major already announced games and some unannounced games for the first time

there's the MX570 with has 2048 cores. just slap some cpus on it

"Adult babies on Twitter"

Yeah when the thing actually gets announced they're going to be "I TOLD YOU SO" because obviously new consoles get developed right when they are announced and 3 months before they launch right? People really don't know how to engage with industry rumors.
