Pre-Release Elden Ring Hype Thread [Release date February 25th, 2022]

If I enjoyed blazing through Demon's Souls as a spell slinging coward the first time around, what's the Elden Ring class for me?

Not sure if this counts as "proper forum etiquette" here, but...

If anyone wants to help me make an ST thread for Elden Ring, that would be appreciated. I could use the help.

Especially with anyone that uses or has good PhotoShop or Canva skills.

Thanks!
I've got some spare time for some Photoshopping if you know exactly what you want! Just PM if you still need assistance.

Not ashamed to admit I'm taking a four day weekend for this lol.
Lucky! I need money, but I would if I could haha. I'll have the residuals of launch day free and I'm psyched.

I have march 4 off work. Hope I can wait for that to play but the hype are starting to get to me.
Honestly, this shit has me so hyped I think I'm going to choose the Wretch class and make it as memorable and crazy a first playthrough as possible. Haven't done that once in all my Soulsing and I've got XBOX Live achievements for Prepare to Die edition, that's how ancient I am. 😂

We so far have 10 revealed with the Astrologer and Bandit classes having been revealed recently.

This article gives a good rundown of states, equipment, etc. of the classes so far:

Astrologer looks good. But really though I wouldn't get too hung up on the starter class, you could start hero or something and still end up chucking spells at enemies a couple hours in I'm sure.

I think I'll mostly need help with writing the material in the OP as I'll try to put a lot in there... though I may not want to put the burden for the graphics on just one person.

If you're fine with alternating between graphics and writing, that would be much appreciated, though I can still allow you to help me and @aus89 as well.

I do suggest subscribing to this YouTuber to keep up-to-date with Elden Ring news leading up to the release without being spoiled (he'll warn you in advance from what I've seen).

Have only had a Switch this past year or so…this is the first game I’m going to have SERIOUS FOMO over lol. It looks fantastic. 😭

If you have a good laptop like I do or a desktop, then you can definitely play it on Steam when it comes out a bit earlier for the release on consoles.

If you need to upgrade your rig, doubling or even quadrupling your RAM to be able to process everything should be somewhere over $100, and. I'd put it at around $50 to install the another RAM card or improved RAM cards or both. Otherwise, you should be set.

Dunno if that helps, but if you're worried about having the latest console, it shouldn't be a problem in this case as it's coming to PC, though maybe your computer isn't as up-to-date.

Elden Ring will be very interesting to analyze. There isn't much Japanese single player 3D open world games is there? BOTW, Yakuza, MGSV, Shadow of the colossus, Okami, Monster Hunter, Arceus, what else?
The game will probably be too hard for me but I like its similarities with BOTW's philosophy, interesting landmarks, no markers, few cutscenes. There's even the
"Find the corresponding viewpoint" with the paintings like the souvenirs in BOTW.
Loved those.

I appreciate the advice! Sadly, all I’ve got is a 2019 MacBook Air that can’t even run The Sims 4 😄 Hopefully with supply the way it is I’ll be able to snag a new console sometime this century.

Really wish I had the day off for this, but unfortunately it’s a busier time of year at work.

Although I’m still wfh so could probably sneak some hours in…

Yeah, those specs are a bit weird, but it is what it is, I guess. I fear we'll have to deal with somewhat lackluster optimisation come launch.
Not sure if I want to give it a shot day 1 with my specs, but I don't think I'd have any problem with playing this one at 30 fps -- I suspect 60 might just be a bit too much for my poor card. (Not that I bought the hardware thinking I'd play next gen games all these upcoming years, haha)

Basically me. But this game looks so good though…
Yup. And it's also the only "AAA"/technically more demanding title I'm interested in for the rest of the year (as far as I can say right now), so I'd be willing to give it a shot either way tbh. Probably more so than with most other games; Monster Hunter being the only other exception here.

Inclined to just give it a shot, then.

Awfully high specs for a game that is supposed to run on xbone
I'm inclined to assume that the Series S, i.e. the lowest "Current/Next Gen version" if you will, actually represents the baseline for ER's general build, while the last gen versions are probably specifically optimised by hand to even run (well) at all, that is: settings lower than low on PC for instance, and other such measures. I can't really come up with another way to explain these reqs. I mean, GTX 1060 sits nicely around the point where I'd also put Series S at, at least roughly in terms of raw processing power, VRAM limit and such notwithstanding.

Tempted to take the Samurai on my first run. High Dexterity and a longbow.

Only 10 days until release.

I hope reviewers told us performance too, I'm not sure between Xbox Series S and PS5 (or PS4 playing in PS5) lol

Every time I click back over to Famiboards I see the words 'Elden Ring' and 'Delayed' in this thread title and my stomach drops through the floor.
I had the exact same thing happen like 5 times when scrolling here, thrilling experience.

Understandable!

On another note entirely:

Has anyone else seen this ad recently? It looks even better than the trailers for the game.

Any news on review embargo? I'm glad the release date will coincide with carnival holiday here in Brazil. I can use some time between friday to wednesday to enjoy it.

Please be a banger. Please be an absolute banger.
Obviously not guaranteed or anything, but with how glowing all of the previews were and from the network test, and how good the game looks, and just everything about it, it's really hard for me to see this game not delivering. Who knows if it'll really be in "masterpiece" territory like a lot of From games, but I have faith in From and all evidence at the moment is that it'll be great.

I think the biggest unknown factor that might affect things is how does the open world design and new structure of the game change up the game balance, difficulty, and overall 'feel' of the game? Is the world really fun and interesting to explore, with unique and cool rewards all over the place? And if so, does it continue to be even many many hours later? Stuff like that is what I'm most interested in learning.

I'm curious about the exact same things you are. Truly wondering whether the game will be able to maintain its balance, and a strong sense of challenge, throughout. The last thing I want is to become too powerful by doing a lot of content in one zone, and then steamrolling the next, because I was "supposed to" do the areas in the opposite order. Hopefully they've done well to account for the player's increased level of freedom, and that won't happen.

I really hope I can get through Horizon (no thread?) before Elden Ring drops through my letterbox. I want to give them both my full attention!

We are a Nintendo-focused community. Whether there are threads for games not available on Switch depends on the interest of the community. For PS games without an ST, I would suggest the Playstation ST.

Since we're in the final stretch I hope Elden Ring gets a banger final trailer.

Thanks for posting these, I forgot what a good launch trailer track record From has.

I remember really liking the Sekiro one, too!

Swung by Best Buy for a Series S this afternoon. The hype is real now lol

Streams of the PS5 retail version are out in the wild.

Spoilers incoming friends. Just one more week.

My only contribution to this thread is that I hope this game lives up to everyone's expectations. After playing several FromSoft games on my cousin's PS4 I've come to the conclusion that these games aren't for me, but I'm glad that the fans are being well-fed.

I came to the same conclusion.

…and here I am just about ready to pre-order :x I failed hard at both Sekiro and Bloodborne, but I’m keen to try once more.
