Nintendo would have to deal with Sony to get Sawano music in Smash. I'm not a huge fan of Sawano's music anyway so I'm not fussed personally but a bit of a bummer for people who really like the OST.
They put Sawano music on XC2 so I don't think that was the problem...

Actually, they deliberately distanced themselves from telling an epic, theme-laden story with X due to it being their first HD game. The focus was on character builds and map exploration as well as experimenting with and implementing the tech skills needed for HD development.

If it is connected, it would have been nice for it to have an epic, theme-laden main story like every Xeno game but Monolith made the right choice. Makes sense to develop a spin-off title where you can build the foundation for your future projects so it doesn't affect the story quality of the main series.
I mean, both can be true, can’t they? If Takahashi really did write up what is essentially a Xenoblade Perfect Works as this post speculates—and even if it’s not exactly that, we do know that he wrote a lot of something, and only a part of that novel’s worth of story was chosen to be used in XCX)—it would make sense that, when it was decided that they’d be making an open world, exploration-based game that was less story-driven than their previous game, they chose a part of Takahashi’s concepts for a greater interconnected Xenoblade story that allowed them to implement the type of gameplay they needed while not demanding as much focus on story as the first Xenoblade game. That’s what I meant by “I think they simply chose a further-removed story in Takahashi’s master plan for X because that particular episode fit better with the concept of an open world game that they were making at the time”—they intentionally picked a more disconnected story in their planned saga that would work best for the game they were making, and so they could focus their efforts on other areas beyond story since it was their first HD game, before then returning to make a more direct follow up to the first Xenoblade game. That’s what I feel is likely the case, at least.

And again, as I quoted before, Takahashi has literally stated that these games are all connected, including X. It’s not a spin-off. It’s just not part of the Xenoblade 1-2-3 trilogy arc, and they simply haven’t gotten around to further connecting it to the rest of the games yet. That certainly seems to be the implication, at least.

Forgot about that. I stand corrected.

BTW, this is the first time we've been given a Xenoblade reveal trailer which is already dubbed. I think that's quite meaningful for the series.

It's not the Bionis head, it's Uraya from Xenoblade 2 or what remains of it.
It’s Uraya. It’s Xenoblade 1 + 2 merged in the end shot
That's Uraya? Huh. Looking again, you're right it's not Bionis, but that's not what I would have pegged it as. Also clearly my memory of the end of XC2 needs a refresher because I don't remember what would have caused it to be in that state, lol.

Nothing happens in the end of XB2 that would put it in that state. That's the thing, we have no idea what happened to it. Yet.

What happened to it was Xenoblade 3 lol. That’s the mystery of how everything is with Xeno 1 + 2 looking like they smashed into each other.

Ooh, the return of weekly Twitter updates? They might take a break after going through all the characters we’ve seen so far, but I’m pleased to see them all the same!

Yeah, expected weekly updates. The game isn't that far away and the game is big enough to make weekly updates until launch.

this one seems interesting

google translate so kinda iffy on how accurate the exact wording is but all sorts of implications here:

"In this world of living to fight and fighting to live, I don't know when I or my friends will lose their lives. The sound of the flutes of Noah, Mio, and the two who have lived many lives as Okuribi is beautiful and somewhat sad. #Xenoblade 3"

the off seer thing is referred to as "Okuribito" in the other tweets so tough to say which because of the whole aforementioned translation wording thing but seems to be implying either the flute ceremony involving experiencing the lives of the dead or some sort of reincarnation thing going on with Noah and Mio

Always use deepl.com for translation purposes as it's the most accurate.

"In this world where we live to fight and fight to live, we never know when we or our friends will lose our lives. The sound of the flutes of Noah and Mio, two people who have given many lives as departed souls, is both beautiful and somehow sad."

Mio also have tattoo on her neck

Oh, I so hope this means we're getting the daily weekday tweets leading up to the release like for the previous games. Maybe they'll start earlier like now and keep it up until then.

Noah X Mio X Eunie is totally going to be the love triangle of this game, isn't it?

Protagonist
Childhood friend
Transfer student

All 6 characters have them except for Taion, his hasn't been revealed yet (or doesn't have one?)

Sena has it on her left arm, you can barely see part of it on her artwork but you can clearly see it in the trailer at the 0:38 mark

Sooo on twitter I wrote up a little thread on how I think combat could work in this upcoming title -- been thinking a lot about that... Would anyone be interested in that? To be safe I'll share it here!
Makes sense that they'll expand on torna's gameplay. and if true there are definitely two more characters, probably late game additions

This thread is great because it's so active and I can just mooch on in, read what y'all are saying, and then get excited about new Xenoblade later this year. Right off the bat it sounds and looks very, very promising to me.

From the info released it sounds like the tone is going to be melancholic similarly to Torna, which is fine by me.

I really hope they won't pull that same shitty tropes for a third time. Let the MC be platonic BFF for once. Or if they can help they love triangle fetish, let Noah be the one who get friendzone instead. We already have a large part of the fandom who only remember Nia and Melia as the girls who got friendzone. I don't want a repeat of that...

The two main characters have really nice designs. This bodes well for the direction of the series. I also like the open world vibe but it would still be good to sort of slowly give players access to other areas. Story heavy games work better that way imo.

I think the boat and floating islands in the trailer are a strong indication that even if the game is open world like X not everything is going to be reachable at the start of the game.

I'm really appreciating the tone they've set with 3, you can tell they want this story to be taken more seriously from the start.

Another reference:
I was told that the sentence "Fighting in order to live or living to fight" is from xenosaga ep1 slogan.

I wanted to post a picture of sagas U.M.N logo, but it is surprisingly hard to find a usable one.

It's an orobouros.

Between dues, U-do, and Zanza, we definitely have several takes on a running theme of human lives being fuel.

Our heroes, as 'off seers' are definitely fueling whatever xb3's take is. Whether it's a dues or zanza, or an U-do.

Huh. This was supposed to be an edit.

I hadn't thought of that. I believe you're right too. They have been iterating over the combat and that would be the next step from Torna.

Also, we have assumed it was a 4-members party based on footage, but that could easily be early game with just 2 pairs.

If all party members have 2 weapons as speculated (or 2 stances/elements/etc), it would allow players to have 4 different arts set while using just 2 d-pad buttons (1 button to change the character and another to change weapons) in a non-convoluted way.

I like how we have 2 main protags also that teailer was amazing i love the hinted xenoblade 1 and 2 stuff. A whole trilogy (quadrology? If we count torna?) On a single console! Reminds me of gen 6 where that was pretty normal love it.

Huh, interesting how the battle cuscenes seem to involve paired characters, good catch. I could definitely see something like this working

It took me until this morning to notice that those floating cubes are also shown at the end of the trailer and in the title screen.

I dunno why, but I have this nagging feeling that Mio's 'core' isn't actually a core, but some kind of 'religious symbolism', similar to the cross in Christianity, relating to the Nia character being in charge (hence why Mio fights with 'charge weapons' rather than blade weapons) but is probably me just overthinking it
