So how do you guys feel about the slight controversy about how the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC might just be the tour maps put into the game? Do you guys find that bad? Or do you not really care? I'm interested in the general opinion here.
It doesn’t bother me in the slightest pre-release. I’ll see what happens when the waves start dropping, but I’ve played the current 48 courses for 7 years (and the original 32 of them for a little longer than that,) so any “new” tracks to race on in the 8/8D engine will probably be fine by me!

(Although there’s some notable concerns in there somewhere, I just think it’s another thing for the pitchfork mob to latch onto, blow out of proportion, and pile on about. Nintendo ‘fans’ always gotta be up in arms about something everything.)

Lmao. So many clueless people, especially on twitter. It’s so cringey when I see them asking questions to fake insiders and defend them. It’s like dumbass have you been paying attention to how much they’ve gotten wrong?
lol, yeah. i find it so funny when these fake insiders who have terrible track records have followers on twitter who treat them like they're jason schreier.

Question to you all,

After a Nintendo Direct I always go to different YouTubers over several days to see their reactions to enjoy the direct again. I guess I am not the only one in there ;p?

If you would be the only one (even here), nobody would make Reaction videos to begin with. ^^

i didn't expect any DLC for it, and i'm getting the pass for free* with NSO, so i'm happy.

Controversy? 😂 I can only laugh. That’s what makes my life go. I laugh at all these “controversies”

I like the idea of a Nintendo Switch Sports bundle this holiday. It’s a $40 game so I could see Nintendo doing it. By the time they ready up the bundle Golf will have been added to the game. So they can advertise it with golf during the holidays.

I'm getting the MK8 DLC from the Expansion Pass so the tracks could be lifted straight from the SNES Mario Kart and I wouldn't care.

I don't watch reaction videos, but I do need to rematch the trailers. The only one I've rewatched is Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

Also need to get back into podcasts and analysis videos. This week was the first time for a while I'd remembered to listen to Nate's podcast. I'll have to take a look at some point at what I might like to listen to and watch.

Didn’t play Tour, so it’s all new to me.

Tour didn’t make its money back, so they probably want to get their value out of those tracks. I don’t blame them.

I don't mind them being all old tracks since I haven't touched Tour and I usually love their retro track remakes, but I can't say the graphic style isn't bothering me. Like, it's not even that it's doesn't look good, it's that it looks so removed from the regular MK8 tracks, it's just weird, like a lesser version of the game, idk.

I hope they decide to put more work into remaking them for the next batches.

Current concern on Digimon Cyberslueth: I’m only on chapter 2 and I’m enjoying myself enough I worry my sidequest fulfillment itch will act up which added a ton of time to my Xeno playthroughs (thankfully I’m immune to super boss bs)

I can imagine the second half of 2022 will be just as stacked as the first half. Nintendo is currently backed up after Covid, so they're sitting on a bunch of content-complete games.

You'll notice that Nintendo is trying to publish 2 games per month (for most months). March, April, and June each have two Nintendo-published games.

But you'll notice that May is currently empty.

That leaves Nintendo with two choices:

1. They can either shelve 1-2-Switch due to poor focus group testing.
2. Or they can release it in May with a Twitter announcement.
Or they can sit all in a corner and ask themselves why they aren‘t developing a Ring Fit DLC or Successor.

I have never played Tour. I just despise mobile game controls and mobile optimised gameplay. I never played Mario Run either for the same reasons.

So from my perspective, the DLC is a mixture of old courses I know and love, and brand new courses I've never seen before from Tour.

Tour didn’t make its money back
Wow, I’m surprised by this. I figured the subscription pass had to be doing alright. (I subscribed for the couple weeks I played with the intention of canceling, but then got charged for many months before I realized I forgot to. 😅)

This DLC pack got me to buy MK8 Deluxe after having skipped it because I own it on WiiU, it's a great deal and as others have said Tour tracks are new to me

Not surprised at Tour not making its money back. What a half-assed game. A mobile racing game? In portrait mode? With terrible control.

I feel like all of my "issues" with the Mario Kart DLC have nothing to do with the content or price itself. To me they look mostly fine even though you can tell that they're "remastered" and the price seems fair. It's also good added value for Expansion Pack subscribers, especially those on a family plan such as myself. I'm not gonna say it's free (because it isn't)... but it's "neat".

I'm mainly just frustrated that it took this long, that it'll be spread out over 1.5 years, that MK8DX is Nintendo's only surviving racing series and that we still don't know what EPD9's next console game will be. Can't have them all, I guess. 🤷‍♂️

Well I don’t know for sure. But it definitely did not perform as well as I’m sure they’d hoped.

In any case I’m looking forward to seeing those tracks for the first time.

Find it hilarious that they list Earthbound Beginnings as a 2015 release

I think it's perfectly fair for people to be perplexed / annoyed by the Mario Kart DLC.

Mario Kart 8 was on Wii U many many years ago.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was essentially Mario Kart 8.5
This DLC, and the scale of it, is essentially Mario Kart 8.75 - which is just a weird and largely unheard of concept !

Mario Kart is a strange beast though... the sales are insane. Nintendo couldn't abandon it, so this makes perfect sense.

I fully expect Mario Kart 9 to be an early title on the next Hardware - whenever that is, but for me, the biggest disappointing factor in all of this is...

Wave Race?
F Zero?
Diddy Kong Racing?

And not forgetting... Star Fox GP?!

They've chosen to double down on Mario Kart. Fair enough, it's genuinely the smart move, but now is the time for F Zero if its ever going to happen.

This may be a hot take, but I don’t think Mario Kart content has much effect (if any) on the likelihood of a new F-Zero/Wave Race/etc. If they want to make another racing game they would just do it, Mario Kart will always be there. Especially since a new F-Zero definitely wouldn’t be made by EPD 9.

Nintendo’s released multiple 2D platformers and JRPGs in close proximity. The reason why F-Zero and Wave Race is dead is because it doesn’t sell well, not because of Mario Kart taking up the racing game slot or whatever.

No, I think you're right. I guess it's just a combination of things. We're at a weird point in time with Nintendo and Switch where anything feels possible.

But then at the same time... where do they go from here with Mario Kart 9? That's an insane amount of tracks by the end of 2023.

Smash Bros is another one... where do they go with that next?! Even more characters?

Perhaps we're seeing clues to the future of these franchises...?

MK8.75 or whatever is being used as a vehicle to drive subscriptions now.

It's not Switch getting beaten I'm worried about, it's the momentum the new consoles are getting. Maybe this is selfish of me but I don't want them to sell well, hell I want them to fail. Why? More they sell, more publishers focus on AAA (or even AAAA) development. More money on AAA means less games I get to play. No. I'm not ok with this. Keep the AA alive!

I'd say Sony and MS were just smart enough to hold back a lot of stock for that one month.

But yeah, it's time for a new model in FY 2023, ideally it hits 2022 before holidays. Wether they call it Pro, 2 or whatever is just semantics about naming and marketing for what is one and the same device.

Btw.: I just had a reload where the first 9 threard on Treehouse' first page were all posted by Mazi.

Mazi, dude, you need to go easy! ^^

With No Man's Sky being a native port for NSW, I think there should be less and less exceptions for Cloud. The game looks to run fine, and the port was a couple of years in the works with crossplay one day one. Just makes me wonder if some games could have got a native port running at 30. But who knows.

we need more than 1 month to know if its stock issue or saturation
for me its leaning towards stock issue for OLED

and I am predicting that a pro SKU will release late 2022
Oh it's absolutely stock issues. I checked a couple times in January and it's not just OLED models that were sold out, it was everything. Even some Lite models.

Alright. I gotta be real.

I’m glad Mario Strikers is back. But some probably don’t remember or are just interested in the title for the first time, that the first 2 titles were not content rich. In fact, the original GameCube game was absolutely barebones at the level of Mario Tennis on Wii U. And that’s not a joke, plus the only unlockable character tanks the framerate where the game is unplayable on certain stages. And it’s not even a Mario character. It’s a robot that is as generic as you get.

I’m sure some have gotten burn on Camelot’s switch games but those Two at launch had more content then the Wii Strikers game as well.

Just saying. Even if it’s Next Level Games, don’t go in expecting a content rich game. Or more content then the Camelot games on switch.
I think at this point it’s safe to say Mario Sports games are leaning more heavily into online competitive play than single player modes. Especially with “Battle League” in the title itself.
