You can still access that same menu from the Missions & Rewards menu too; you just have to select the Animal Crossing: New Horizons thumbnail again that’s below “Rewards You Can Get by Playing” (it should say “Play x More Times” right above the thumbnail). This leads me to believe that multiple games are going to be present in this menu at the same time.FYI, if you access the AC section via the news banner you get the old UI so you can see the icons but you’re still blocked from “purchasing” unless you’ve booted the software recently
Last big publisher to finally realize they can make players treat their games as a second or third job. So sick, I love it, I hope every Star equivalent in the new mario game is only available on certain days (wait that's a sick idea for secrets holy)the only way this would not be terrible is if all previous icons were available for any game you have in your play history. having the old icons rotate in an out, and then the weird requirement of having to run the game on 3 different days in the past 30 days, i have no idea wtf they're thinking.
I think what you describe is where this is ultimately heading. The 3 different days (24 hours apart too) thing is a really bizarre gate to pass through for what is basically GIF files purchased with fake money.the only way this would not be terrible is if all previous icons were available for any game you have in your play history. having the old icons rotate in an out, and then the weird requirement of having to run the game on 3 different days in the past 30 days, i have no idea wtf they're thinking.
It’s very likely not gonna be like this for all icons elements from now on—just reruns of past icons elements. So if you’ve been staying on top of any new ones that you want as they’re released, you won’t have to worry about it at all.I don't know about the rest of you, but personally speaking, no. If this is how it's gonna be with these icons from now on, then I'm pretty much done getting them.
I got a feeling this is the case too. This is a progenitor of a larger change being tested. Even if it's not these specific ideas.Gonna make a bold prediction here and say that nintendo is doing this stuff so late in the switch life cycle to test out things for when they implement their own achievement system on Switch 2 in which:
- Switch 2 achievements will be called "Missions"
- Completing missions for games gets you platinum points
- Said Platinum Points can be spent to unlock icons/themes/backgrounds for those games
Very hard to localize jpegsSo, uh…looks like we did not get the Mother 3 icon elements outside of Japan, unfortunately…
It’s not about the effort involved, it’s about the optics of it. I was worried this would be the case, as were some others here, because it didn’t seem likely that Nintendo would want to release the Mother 3 icon elements outside of Japan and then face even more ridicule over it—“they’re just taunting us, giving us icons but not the actual game!!” But, of course, people will complain now that we don’t even get the icon elements. Damned if they do, damned if they don’t, I guess.Very hard to localize jpegs
They could fix this issue by releasing the actual game over here so they don't have to bend over backwards to avoid mentioning itOkay, so…before I go through the hassle of leaving my Nintendo Switch Online family plan (because you can’t change your account’s region if auto-renewal is enabled, but disabling it cancels your subscription with no way to turn it back on without letting your term lapse, and my partner and I don’t want that), changing my region to Japan, redeeming a free trial for an individual NSO membership, and then attempting to get the Mother 3 icons that way…could someone who doesn’t have auto-renewal enabled try changing their account to Japan to see if that even works for icon elements in the first place? I assume it must work, but I imagine there must be other people here who also want to try to get these Mother 3 icons while they’re available that could check a lot easier than I can if you don’t have auto-renewal enabled.

I mean, obviously, but clearly that isn’t happening right now, unfortunately, as much as everyone wishes it was. Doesn’t mean they should just not allow Japanese users have Mother 3 related stuff like this just because of that, though. They could fix this issue by releasing the actual game over here so they don't have to bend over backwards to avoid mentioning it
Not happening until nintendo is confident they won't get sued over it and won't deal with any cultural backlash in the west for certain elements in Mother 3.They could fix this issue by releasing the actual game over here so they don't have to bend over backwards to avoid mentioning it
I would check my icon elements to confirm for you…if I could. =/So I think I finally have all of the Animal Crossing icons… someone please tell me there are 586 of them?

can i region swap if i have eshop money in my account? i remember the last time i tried years ago it wasn't possible unless you had 0 dollars in your account. It sounds like they have in fact fixed this and region swapping will now work for getting the icons with no drawback.

nice! They let you brute force through it and accept losing your funds but that is still the only concern to be aware of yeah; you will temporarily lose gold points (not platinum points though, what you need for icons) while your region is changed too but they come back when you swap back.

it just got fixed. you can now use mother 3 icons on a US account without breaking the icon systemWell, I guess that's no Mother 3 icons if it breaks the access to the other icons. Damn it, Nintendo, I just want negative man!
Ooh, are you 100% sure of this? Everything I’ve read about region swapping on Switch, including from Nintendo’s own site, says that you can’t change region with an existing eShop balance. I had hoped to purchase the Switch Brain Age game that we never got in North America while I was switching my region to Japan for these icon elements, but realized that there’s not really any way for me to do that without a Japanese credit card, because even buying a Japanese eShop card would still leave me with an eShop balance after buying the game, preventing me from switching my account back from being set to Japan. But if you actually can just choose to lose your eShop balance, I’d like to do that, but only if I can be 100% certain that that is indeed the case and I’m not gonna have my account stuck being set to Japan over ¥52 that I can’t even spend on anything. They let you brute force through it and accept losing your funds but that is still the only concern to be aware of yeah; you will temporarily lose gold points (not platinum points though, what you need for icons) while your region is changed too but they come back when you swap back.
If I understand correctly, no, it’s only your Gold Points that will remain, but your eShop balance will be wiped (if it even lets you change regions with an existing eShop balance in the first place, that is, which I’m still looking for hard confirmation on myself).sorry but just to make sure, so if i change my region to japan, claim the icons, then change back to NA, my eshop credit will be there, correct? it'll only be gone while i'm switched to japan?
So I had a digital pre-order for Endless Ocean and it told me “bro we cannot do this for one of these reasons” when I tried to change regions, one of those regions being “you got cash.” So I think they just don’t let you do it?If I understand correctly, no, it’s only your Gold Points that will remain, but your eShop balance will be wiped (if it even lets you change regions with an existing eShop balance in the first place, that is, which I’m still looking for hard confirmation on myself).
It definitely won’t let you do it if you have any active preorders or subscriptions with auto-renew enabled (I had to cancel my Pokémon HOME subscription and leave my NSO family membership and buy an individual one and cancel that before it would let me change my region to Japan, but I didn’t have any preorders or an existing eShop balance to worry about on top of that), but if you cancel those it should allow you, provided you don’t have an existing eShop balance. Though @MondoMega said that it’ll let you brute force it and accept losing your eShop balance if you want, though I’ve not heard that anywhere else yet and I didn’t see anything about that on Nintendo’s official support articles and all so I’m still not completely sure on that one.So I had a digital pre-order for Endless Ocean and it told me “bro we cannot do this for one of these reasons” when I tried to change regions, one of those regions being “you got cash.” So I think they just don’t let you do it?
