I mean... they could still do that. I imagine things are moving quickly behind the scenes since it's probably a fairly recent decision (past 2-3 weeks) to delay the Switch 2 to 2025.If this delay was really a last minute why they just did not turn the Partner into the General? Just put there some ports, remakes, remasters and you have a full General.
This doesn't add up.
Multiple outlets have managed to confirm this 2025 news with several sources. Only way for this news to be fake is if Nintendo was giving fake delay info to several third parties. Here's what Eurogamer and VGC were saying back in 2021. Very likely they're totally wrong again this time.

It's fucking over wow
Sony will be fine. They have the support of several major third parties to hold them over for a while, especially with how much people prefer getting the PS5 versions of current gen AAA games.Barring some surprise heavy hitter announcements, looks like this year is going to be a wash for all 3 console manufacturers.
The bottom isn't even wrong, the device just wasn't called "Nintendo Switch Pro". Switch OLED indeed has all of those listed thingsHere's what Eurogamer and VGC were saying back in 2021. Very likely they're totally wrong again this time.
MODS??!?!!!?!!!!!!Of course
Switch 2 could still be 2026!
Well if you keep telling your friend that every time during a swim you'll eventually be rightIn summer 2022, I said a friend of mine, while swimming in a river, that Switch Pro/2 was being revealed soon. He must hate me now.
If this is true then Nintendo are abysmally bad at achieving the smooth transition they talked about.I don’t think this delay would be because of that. VGC’s report says they need more time developing first party software.
Congrats to FF7 REbirth for winning game of the year by default
This newfangled universal generation numbering scheme is honestly really annoying tbh. On what planet are Wii U and Switch in the same generation?Wikipedia editors trying to justify a Switch 2 as ninth generation hardware in their made up categories when it releases in the latter half of the other system's life cycles.

So they've heard rumours, but they're not substantiated.Eurogamer said:Eurogamer has heard similar whispers of an early 2025 launch from industry sources this week, though has not been able to concretely substantiate them.

Hard to say. I think COVID impacted them pretty hard, even harder than other Japanese devs. But I guess a holiday launch with 3D Mario and Prime 4 might have been too good to be true.If this is true then Nintendo are abysmally bad at achieving the smooth transition they talked about.
Now I think that they are scared shirtless that Switch 2 isn't gonna be a success and that mentality can become a self fulfilling prophecy.
Nintendo canceled their e3 summer Direct due to a "light" release schedule for this upcoming holiday.
Switch and WiiU were incompatible to each other, so a delay made sense from software perspective. But if the Switch successor has backward compatibility, it would not make so much sense. Look how many people bought a PS5 to just play their PS4 games with higher resolution and more stable framerate. What's most puzzling about this and I'm seeing no discussion about is why would they delay it to Q1 in the first place? Switch was delayed from a holiday 2016 launch because, as far as we know, the games weren't ready. Is the first year lineup once again just not ready? Something else going on?
Based upon the rumor this PS is "contractually obligated", so I doubt they cancel it. They could just move what was supposed to be an April/May "here are great games still coming to Switch 1 in 2024 playable on Switch 2 when it launches" to a March general "look at these great Switch games for 2024".It would be a good thing to cancel the Partner Showcase and replace it with a General Direct, a bit later
It's like a 6 month delay, and honestly with the switch still selling, I'm sure Nintendo is just waiting it out while getting everything set upThis is a massive failure if true, but I don't believe it is true
Don't let the gamer(tm) bubble fool you, most people weren't buying a ps5 or xs to play last gen games with better framerate/resolution, most people bought them to play the new exclusives.Switch and WiiU were incompatible to each other, so a delay made sense from software perspective. But if the Switch successor has backward compatibility, it would not make so much sense. Look how many people bought a PS5 to just play their PS4 games with higher resolution and more stable framerate.
"Come on are you really going to count Mario Wonder as a "major" release? It doesn't matter if it sold 20 million It's 2D. My sources said no big boy games so I was still correct"These the same sources at Eurogamer/VGC that said Switch Pro was coming in 2021, that Nintendo had no major software left after TotK?
Nintendo when they will screw up the launch of yet another succIt’s completely joever.
Remember when the console would of course release with tears of the kingdom?
Now it might release 2 years later.
It’s crazy how Nintendo got served the easiest slam dunk for the next console release and they fumbled it yet again. 2024 is looking to be a pretty shit year overall.
Maybe that is what’s happening? Trying to get a DK trailer or something ready for a rebranded Direct for this week.If this delay was really a last minute why they just did not turn the Partner into the General? Just put there some ports, remakes, remasters and you have a full General.
