If this delay was really a last minute why they just did not turn the Partner into the General? Just put there some ports, remakes, remasters and you have a full General.

This doesn't add up.
I mean... they could still do that. I imagine things are moving quickly behind the scenes since it's probably a fairly recent decision (past 2-3 weeks) to delay the Switch 2 to 2025.

Here's what Eurogamer and VGC were saying back in 2021. Very likely they're totally wrong again this time.

Multiple outlets have managed to confirm this 2025 news with several sources. Only way for this news to be fake is if Nintendo was giving fake delay info to several third parties.

Wow, if both Switch 2 and GTA6 release in Spring 2025, there will be a bloodbath

After all the stuff we hear about game dev being hard and whatnot.

I hope the delay is for the better end.

Besides. It’s just games, no rush

It’s completely joever.
Remember when the console would of course release with tears of the kingdom?
Now it might release 2 years later.
It’s crazy how Nintendo got served the easiest slam dunk for the next console release and they fumbled it yet again. 2024 is looking to be a pretty shit year overall.

I'm unironically excited for all the ports we will get this year.

Narrator: Nintendo didn't release a Switch 2 or any ports at all that year

Barring some surprise heavy hitter announcements, looks like this year is going to be a wash for all 3 console manufacturers.
Sony will be fine. They have the support of several major third parties to hold them over for a while, especially with how much people prefer getting the PS5 versions of current gen AAA games.

Wikipedia editors trying to justify a Switch 2 as ninth generation hardware in their made up categories when it releases in the latter half of the other system's life cycles.

Well yeah it's not releasing in 2024 of course, too much publicity will be taken up by Metroid Prime 4 which will sell 70 primillion copies and drive millions of Switch sales something something trust process

In summer 2022, I said to a friend of mine, while swimming in a river, that Switch Pro/2 was being revealed soon. He must hate me now.

Now I see we're getting skeptical of insider claims. Interesting

The bottom isn't even wrong, the device just wasn't called "Nintendo Switch Pro". Switch OLED indeed has all of those listed things

So one thing I'm confused about. Are they claiming a "big release" like Metroid Prime 4 won't be a thing on Switch this year either?

How does Nintendo not have a strong enough first party lineup to justify a Holiday 2024 launch?

The 3D Mario team has largely been MIA since 2017.
The Mario Kart team has been DLC/Mobile duty since 2017.
Sakurai/Smash Team has been on DLC duty since 2018.
Prime 4 has been in development for over 5 years by Retro Studios and is past due.
Mercury Steam has been MIA since 2021.
Grezzo hasn't done anything since 2019.
ND Cube hasn't done anything since 2021.
There's probably a ton of other teams I'm forgetting who are due for new titles.

What have they been doing for these last few years?

I don’t think this delay would be because of that. VGC’s report says they need more time developing first party software.
If this is true then Nintendo are abysmally bad at achieving the smooth transition they talked about.

Now I think that they are scared shirtless that Switch 2 isn't gonna be a success and that mentality can become a self fulfilling prophecy.

This newfangled universal generation numbering scheme is honestly really annoying tbh. On what planet are Wii U and Switch in the same generation?

It would be a good thing to cancel the Partner Showcase and replace it with a General Direct, a bit later

Thread title's a little misleading, no?
Eurogamer said:
Eurogamer has heard similar whispers of an early 2025 launch from industry sources this week, though has not been able to concretely substantiate them.
So they've heard rumours, but they're not substantiated.

Maybe they will consider that doing that, after they postponed the Direct to next week🤷‍♂️

What’s upsetting me the most is, does this mean they’re also delaying the reveal of the hardware?

We were speculating some kind of reveal in March. Are we going to see them reveal this thing likely 12 months ahead of a launch? I’d rather that happen than anything else so we don’t have to go through another hellish 6-8 months of speculation.

Hard to say. I think COVID impacted them pretty hard, even harder than other Japanese devs. But I guess a holiday launch with 3D Mario and Prime 4 might have been too good to be true.

Certainly the last few weeks have shown that this industry is fraught with risks no matter what console manufacturer it is.

HD Zeldas
Fire Emblem remake
New Pokemon
Metroid Prime 4

That's all Nintendo needs to satisfy its consumer base for the back half of the year and the first three are basically a given

What's most puzzling about this and I'm seeing no discussion about is why would they delay it to Q1 in the first place? Switch was delayed from a holiday 2016 launch because, as far as we know, the games weren't ready. Is the first year lineup once again just not ready? Something else going on?
Switch and WiiU were incompatible to each other, so a delay made sense from software perspective. But if the Switch successor has backward compatibility, it would not make so much sense. Look how many people bought a PS5 to just play their PS4 games with higher resolution and more stable framerate.

Based upon the rumor this PS is "contractually obligated", so I doubt they cancel it. They could just move what was supposed to be an April/May "here are great games still coming to Switch 1 in 2024 playable on Switch 2 when it launches" to a March general "look at these great Switch games for 2024".

This is a massive failure if true, but I don't believe it is true
It's like a 6 month delay, and honestly with the switch still selling, I'm sure Nintendo is just waiting it out while getting everything set up

These the same sources at Eurogamer/VGC that said Switch Pro was coming in 2021, that Nintendo had no major software left after TotK?

I think at this point Nintendo is all in on Prime 4 being crossgen. If it was coming as a Switch 1 exclusive they would have teased it in the fall Direct rather than another Mario remake.

Don't let the gamer(tm) bubble fool you, most people weren't buying a ps5 or xs to play last gen games with better framerate/resolution, most people bought them to play the new exclusives.

My only take is that this delay is because something has gone wrong, i think Nintendo have been working for a 2024 release but have recently found it impossible to get software ready for 2024. This could be because their internal developer studios have found it harder than they thought to master the new devkits and have been suprised by how much longer it takes them to develop Switch 2 games vs Switch 1 games. The problem they now face is that if they really aimed for a Switch 2 release in 2024 then they will have a very barren year for the Switch leading up to the 2025 release of Switch 2.

Nintendo is now facing their biggest setback and challenge since the Wii U era.

"Come on are you really going to count Mario Wonder as a "major" release? It doesn't matter if it sold 20 million It's 2D. My sources said no big boy games so I was still correct"

I’m gonna go fucking bald just please release the damn thing with BC support I CANT TAKE 30FPS GAMING ANYMORE NYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Maybe that is what’s happening? Trying to get a DK trailer or something ready for a rebranded Direct for this week.

If Switch 2 is truly 2025 they have to announce something first-party this month for later this year. Needs to happen.

You mean this year I might have to actually play all those Switch games I bought but haven't opened yet!? This is bullshit.
