I am primed and ready
well future hardware is always in "development", you mean not yet concrete. but research and development and communication with nvidia what the plans / realistic expectations for the next years are where for sure done. and with how long modern AAA games take, restarting a game 2 years into a console run would mean them at least knowing it will be a late gen release, meaning the thought of if probably being useful for a dual release or an port/update a year later where there.It was announced on January 25 2019, so the evaluation and process of scrapping the first project and switching to Retro surely must have happened in 2018. The important point is that this all happened within less than 2 years of the system's launch, and there would be nothing at all on anyone's mind to target the project at a future hardware upgrade that hadn't even begun development yet.
sure they can. unless you mean relative to other platforms, then that's never going to happen even if they targeted 15fps. but best looking switch game at 60fps isn't unachievable60 fps is achievable but I don't think they can preserve the relative high technical visuals on top of it like the original trilogy
I think I've never seen something like that (apart from Fallout 76 when it launched completely broken, but that wasn't on purpose lol)
Considering their previous actual leaks were each basically one day ahead of the event in question, I think we've passed the window for believing they had legit info on something happening.Was there ever any update to this particular rumor/leaker etc after they deleted their account? We've been "primed and ready" for more than two weeks now. Lol. If there is any truth to it, they definitely jumped the gun a little early.
When BotW, a wiiu game, can't even hit consistent 30fps, I have to disagree.sure they can. unless you mean relative to other platforms, then that's never going to happen even if they targeted 15fps. but best looking switch game at 60fps isn't unachievable
BotW's Switch port was made in less than a year alongside the Wii U version's final stretch of development, running the Wii U engine at a higher res with no Switch specific optimizations. It's not the best point of comparison to a game made ground up for the Switch, but I don't think the comparison works in the first place as Prime 4 isn't going to be a third-person open-world game and wouldn't need the same concessions.When BotW, a wiiu game, can't even hit consistent 30fps, I have to disagree.
That was made for the Wii U. The Switch port was a quick one. TOTK will actually be made with the Switch in mind, same goes for something like Prime 4.When BotW, a wiiu game, can't even hit consistent 30fps, I have to disagree.
there are so many different caveats to that comparison that it renders it moot.When BotW, a wiiu game, can't even hit consistent 30fps, I have to disagree.
Its an open world game. Obviously it will not hit the target framerate the whole time, no open world game does that. BotW had notable improvements on Switch compared to the WiiU version, like higher resolution, better lightning, higher quality soundscape.When BotW, a wiiu game, can't even hit consistent 30fps, I have to disagree.
What does that even mean tho?60 fps is achievable but I don't think they can preserve the relative high technical visuals on top of it like the original trilogy
Why would we jump to the conclusion the game is open world tho? The only official information we ever had on it compares it to the original MP which wasn't open world.I would be pretty surprised if this wasn't an open world game as open-world or multiplayer are almost always the best option when you're trying to expand the sales of your franchise and there's been no indication of multiplayer. No one at Retro has any multiplayer programming experience (they had some multiplayer programmers in the past, but they all left after Prime 4 was announced and the game before Prime 4 cancelled).
And almost no open world Switch games run at 60.
Yeah I agree with you here.MP will not be an big open world game as zelda, or even have as vast zones as Mario (i assume), so im confident that 60fps will be what they are aiming for. i expect it to be closer to the zones in Doom 2016.
im 90% confident that they will aim for
900p@60fps for MP4
1080@60fps for MP1
only 80% confident take:
and they will have made the textures for 4 in higher fidelity in mind to then have either a patch or a 4k port later on. it is a first party game that can function as a "realistic graphics" showcase for mature audiences, so nintendo would have had somewhat of a plan when moving to retro to give them the wink / hint to to prepare for higher resolutions.
the models... i think will work fine for the most part in lower and higher resolution, so i expect there not to be to much change, but an increased abundance of particle effects, foliage, etc.
There's at least 2 examples I can think of on Switch:I think I've never seen something like that (apart from Fallout 76 when it launched completely broken, but that wasn't on purpose lol)
Exactly, like how Splatoon 3, Super Mario Odyssey and ARMS have already done, but with further room for improvement and more graphical features as it's gonna be a late gen release, with more budget and so on.sure they can. unless you mean relative to other platforms, then that's never going to happen even if they targeted 15fps. but best looking switch game at 60fps isn't unachievable
When BotW, a wiiu game, can't even hit consistent 30fps, I have to disagree.

...honestly, it wont run over 30fps and after all the updates BotW holts the 30 pretty well for the most part.Wanna bet on TotK running better than BOTW on average, friend? :3
I think to preserve high tech visuals they'll make it 240p60.60 fps is achievable but I don't think they can preserve the relative high technical visuals on top of it like the original trilogy
What does that even mean tho?
Prime 1/2 had at 60FPS the best the Game Cube could pull off. Prime 3 had at 60FPS the best the Wii could pull off(well there's Other M and Smash Brawl tho). Why can't Prime 4 do the same?
Super Mario Odyssey looks better than BotW in every possible way except image quality as BotW has higher resolution and some kind of AA, and SMO is 60FPS.
Why would we jump to the conclusion the game is open world tho? The only official information we ever had on it compares it to the original MP which wasn't open world.
Yeah I agree with you here.
If anything, they can go with a lower resolution and use TAAU if they want to. But I don't think they'd sacrifice 60FPS right away.
There's at least 2 examples I can think of on Switch:
- Splatoon 3 is 60FPS dynamic resolution (820p-1080p) mostly (story mode, online, training, salmon run, etc) and 1080p30 on Splatsville. Splatoon 2 also uses the dynamic resolution and 60FPS, while dropping to 30FPS and locking 1080p on Inkopolis;
- Super Mario Odyssey is dynamic resolution (720-900p) and 60FPS, but its photo mode is 1080p30.
Exactly, like how Splatoon 3, Super Mario Odyssey and ARMS have already done, but with further room for improvement and more graphical features as it's gonna be a late gen release, with more budget and so on.
- We have Portal Companion Collection running at 60FPS, 1080p and with 4x MSAA on Switch while on PS360 the game was 30FPS, 720p and with no AA;
- Alien Isolation is better looking on Switch than PS4;
- Super Mario Odyssey, built from the ground up for Switch, released the same year as BotW, is better looking and is 60FPS;
- Splatoon 3 is a huge step from 2 and a generational leap from 1, runs at dynamic 1080p and is 60FPS;
- A port of a game made on a running against the time, before the Wii U version was even completed, that was just straight ported over, while also getting to a higher resolution, of the most ambitious game Nintendo had ever made and open world isn't the best comparison point.
BotW's Switch port was made in less than a year alongside the Wii U version's final stretch of development, running the Wii U engine at a higher res with no Switch specific optimizations. In that case there are multiple other examples like the xenoblade games or even games that don't push visuals that are at 30 like FEthere are so many different caveats to that comparison that it renders it moot.
There are also plenty of games that push 60fps on Switch though, including some of its best looking like Mario Odyssey and FAST RMX.In that case there are multiple other examples like the xenoblade games or even games that don't push visuals that are at 30 like FE

Prime 1, 2, and 3 were all among the best looking games on their respective consoles at 60fps too.
Where did this discussion of 60FPS come from? Have Retro ever shipped a game that wasn't?
and there are multiple cases of games that are 60fpsIn that case there are multiple other examples like the xenoblade games or even games that don't push visuals that are at 30 like FE
Mario Odyssey is a good counterexample but I would say browser's fury is a more apt comparison given that there's more to render on screenThere are also plenty of games that push 60fps on Switch though, including some of its best looking like Mario Odyssey and FAST RMX.
Prime 1, 2, and 3 were all among the best looking games on their respective consoles at 60fps too.
None that are relatively as technically impressive visually compared to the original prime trilogyand there are multiple cases of games that are 60fps

of course, retro's technical prowess coupled with their art direction and a big-ass budget to support some great production values would make mp4 easily be the best looking switch game, even at 60fps.sure they can. unless you mean relative to other platforms, then that's never going to happen even if they targeted 15fps. but best looking switch game at 60fps isn't unachievable
like we said before, its not that they cant, its that they could choose to not do it. A 2d game is simply less demanding than a 3d game ofc.Retro: Made a 60fps Tropical Freeze HD
Metroid Fans: "What it Retro doesn't know how to do 60fps in HD?!"
Now, I sincerely doubt they'll ever bring back a Deathmatch/Prime Hunters style multiplayer, again. At least, not in a main Prime release.Because Nintendo probably wants Prime 4 to sell 5-10m copies and massive franchise sales expansion is most common with either open world or multiplayer and they're definitely not doing multiplayer.

That said, however, I wonder if something a bit more "Soulslike" with Invasions may be more a possibility. Could fit, perhaps, if time travel does indeed play a part in the game. Or maybe just have another player take over Sylux and freely mess with Samus for a while.
Instead of technical concerns, what do you all think the game will ultimately be? I’m expecting larger environments at certain points for sure even if good chunks of the game will resemble classic Prime with smaller rooms. I feel like a big part of Metroid gameplay is really studying your environment and having smaller rooms helps people navigate/explore/puzzle solve in them. I’m hoping for a solitary experience, but Prime 3 did introduce radio conversations which did work well. An option to have scan logs read to you would be cool.
Any guessing on the central gimmick if there is one? ie light and dark world, being hunted down etc. What kind of world would you like to see? I think I’d prefer something closer to Tallon IV after Prime 2 and 3 had more barren worlds.
I’d be interested at a second stab at a two world mechanic with time being the focus. Hypothetically it would be two “normal” worlds at that point which should keep the puzzle solving inherent to swapping worlds while maintaining a smoother pace since one wouldn’t necessarily always be the slow/dangerous one like the Light/Dark split of Echoes.I think there will be some larger areas... Skytown was something that the increased power of the Wii allowed them to do for Prime 3, so I think they can take it even further in 4. I do think they'll still keep small rooms. The Prime games always had a smaller room after a bigger room for both pacing and loading purposes, and I think it works well. I definitely think they'll keep to one planet and focus on isolation like the press release basically implied, though I think there will be more story elements than Prime 1 (and I full expect scanning to return).
As far as a gimmick, Tanabe mentioned time travel back during Federation Force interviews when discussing a potential Prime 4, so there could be something with that. I'm not really too picky on the particulars to be honest, I just want it to feel like a proper Metroid Prime game. It's been so long.
No Metroid game has ever even sold five million.Because Nintendo probably wants Prime 4 to sell 5-10m copies and massive franchise sales expansion is most common with either open world or multiplayer and they're definitely not doing multiplayer.
I'm extremely doubtful Nintendo would be happy with 3-4m in sales after Prime 4's catastrophic 8+ year dev cycle, lol.
imo we're already well past that pointIf we hear nothing in February I think this was a load of malarkey
imo we're already well past that point
baffled that a single shitpost could do so much damagebut we even know its fps performances!!!
The power of shitposting:baffled that a single shitpost could do so much damage
The power of shitposting:
we get primed every yearIf there's nothing Prime related in the February Direct, we should all say "You just got Prime'd !"
we get primed every year
No Metroid game has ever even sold five million.
That doesn't mean Nintendo expects it to sell record amounts. It just means it had a very protracted development with obvious troubles given that it was completely restarted under a different developer.Yes
Metroid Prime 4 will also have been in development for around 8 years.
