I really not excited for Remake 4 cause I’m expecting it to be much smaller and “set piece” substituted.

Perhaps I’m being pessimistic since RE4 is one of my all time favorite and I’ve beaten that game a good 20-30 times

But It’s a large game, for today standards, it feels almost impossible to remake to scale. I think parts will be cut. Others will be turned into unskippable cinematics.

It’ll probably still be good. But not reached its full potential. But I read it’s more of a re-imagining so it’ll be intriguing to see what that’ll be. It’s own thing based off the original could be neat.
Some of y’all in the old place helped me play it a couple of years back for the first time. Excited as hell for the remake

Dammit. My fantasy league loses. Now just waiting for God of War delay.

Anyways. If covid didn’t happen, I think Sony would’ve probably had a killer first 2 years with games and variety, with Xbox’s poor start to the 2 years. I really wonder how things would be right now.

Especially with Nintendo who, in all honestly, took 2020 off and had a moderate 2021

If not for Covid, Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Bravely Default II, and Monster Hunter Rise were probably all intended for 2020. Pokemon BD/SP were probably supposed to come out earlier in 2021 and Arceus in late 2021. It sounded like Xenoblade 3 was intended to be released in late 2021. Maybe Kirby as well. I don't think it's fair to assume that Sony would have had a much different 2020 to 2021 while also assuming Nintendo's would have been the same if the pandemic didn't hit. We'll probably never know what original release dates for each game was and how much the pandemic impacted each individual game.

the next nintendo direct just needs to show DK's tie and it's already better then anything form microsoft/summergamrfest/stateofplay

Idk wtf your expectations were then.

They announced it as third party and VR games which generally means fuck all to show and it ended up being RE4, SF6 and FF16. That’s like best case scenario lol
No GoW no good. Thems the rules

If you expected God of War from how they described it beforehand then that’s on you lmao.

It’s like when people got disappointed when Nintendo had a Direct “focusing on 3DS titles”.

After the way RE3 was handled, that's my fear as well.

And you saying this kind of brings me to a larger philosophical point on the industry: at the stage that some of the best games of all time have to be "demade" in their remakes just to maintain a certain production standard, how are we not moving backwards instead of forward? Is fidelity really worth that sacrifice?

At least in my opinion, it's really not. Games are supposed to be fun.

Yeah, this is how I felt about the Final Fantasy VII remake. If we're looking at a game from 25 years ago and declaring it far too ambitious to possibly reproduce nowadays, then it seems to me that we've just gone terribly wrong somewhere.

i imagine most if not all the stuff involving Salazar and Ashley's escort missions will be gone,

but with that said I;m expecting critical and fan reception will be closer to REmake 2 then 3 but not a major GOTY contender like REmake 2 was

From the official website:

Welcome to Black Iron

Set on Jupiter’s moon Callisto in the year 2320, The Callisto Protocol is a next-generation take on survival horror. The game challenges players to escape the maximum security Black Iron Prison and uncover its terrifying secrets. A blend of horror, action, and immersive storytelling, The Callisto Protocol game aims to set a new bar for horror in interactive entertainment.

Survive to Escape the Horrors of Callisto

In this narrative-driven, third-person survival horror game set 300 years in the future, the player will take on the role of Jacob Lee—a victim of fate thrown into Black Iron Prison, a maximum-security penitentiary located on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto. When inmates begin to transform into monstrous creatures, the prison is thrown into chaos. To survive, Jacob must battle his way to safety to escape Black Iron Prison, while uncovering the dark and disturbing secrets buried beneath the surface of Callisto. Using a unique blend of shooting and close-quarters combat, Jacob will need to adapt his tactics to combat the rapidly evolving creatures while scavenging to unlock new weapons, gear, and abilities to outrun the growing threat and escape the horrors of Jupiter’s Dead Moon.

Key Features

  • Horror EngineeringThe Callisto Protocol is a next-generation take on survival horror from the mind of Glen Schofield. Blending atmosphere, tension, and brutality with terrifying moments of helplessness and humanity, The Callisto Protocol immerses players in a pulse-pounding story where unspeakable horrors lurk around every corner.
  • Master Brutal, Strategic CombatThe Callisto Protocol challenges players to master a thrilling blend of melee and ranged combat, including a unique gravity weapon once used by Black Iron guards to control the prison population. Players will be forced to get up close and personal with their grotesque opponents, hacking off limbs, blasting off legs, and getting creative with whatever is at their disposal to survive each life-or-death encounter.
  • Uncover the Secrets of the United Jupiter Company – Set on Jupiter’s dead moon Callisto in the year 2320, The Callisto Protocol casts players as Jacob Lee, an inmate in Black Iron Prison. When a mysterious outbreak throws the moon into chaos, Jacob must face his darkest fears to defeat the bloodthirsty creatures that stalk him as he unravels the dark mysteries at the heart of the powerful United Jupiter Company.
  • Experience the Isolation of Jupiter’s Dead Moon – One of the most hostile, isolated environments in the universe, Callisto looms large over Jacob’s desperate struggle to survive. Players must not only contend with the horrors of Black Iron Prison, but also the centuries-old secrets that plague Jupiter’s long-dead moon, both above and below the surface.

The Callisto Protocol seems interesting. Should be coming in December.

I guess it's just the ultimate fitting conclusion of this AAA mindset of "games as cinema" that plenty of people of people saw coming and warned against, back when quick time events first came into the equation. And even though those have fallen largely out of favor (thank goodness), that same philosophy of design has pushed ahead until now, when half of a decades old game can be sold back to us at full price (but don't worry, it's prettier!) and most publishers idea of a "reveal trailer" is 15-20 seconds of CGI that will never be representative of the finished product (or give us some idea of what the game is, even)

Forgive me if I don't particularly care about your next-gen lighting system after you've gutted half the content out of a game I already loved. If I cared about the fidelity of lighting so much, I'd go outside and touch grass at sunset.

If the cost of production per minute, or hour, of game time or per asset or whatever is so high that you can't reproduce a game from 1997 in its entirety then I'd argue your priorities are very much in the wrong place.

I am loving the upcoming PS5 lineup. So much good stuff coming. I think I'd have to put FFXVI as my most-anticipated followed by Jedi Survivor and Spider-Man 2.

I'm really not kidding, the characters in FF XV were really really well written, and the ending was pretty bold and made me cry A LOT
I 100% agree. My main complaint about XV was that too many story beats were cut for time, leaving me wanting more. I genuinely wanted to see and know more about these characters, and wanted to see more of their interactions. And XV's version of World of Ruin fucked me up, along with, as you mentioned, the ending. God, what a game. Also, Shimomura for chrissakes

* ahem *

two weddings with the same person 💕

(last one was in May and it was the very chaotic “legal” drive-thru ceremony with paperwork, this one was us reading shit to make each other cry while immediate family watched via Zoom and we also hired a photographer)
Second times's a charm, congratufrigginlations ❤️
Also I have no questions, sorry

Haha yes I assumed it was the same person! Mine is also to the same person.first one was the legal one, then the actual one was a three-day affair with a white people ceremony and an Indian ceremony so I say it counts twice
I would've loved to see the food for that, omg
also yay to like, love and stuff I guess

@SUSWAVE I JUST CAME UP WITH A QUESTION!!!
Did you DJ it yourself? Or at least compose some music for a hired DJ to play? Basically were there Sustunes of any sort?

That Eternights is exactly the type of weeb stuff, that isn't just a pure visual novel, I like to see. Especially because of the combat I've seen. It looks solid.

FF16 obviously is the best thing shown though. Game has the combat director of DMC 5 :cool::cool:

Marvel Midnight suns cover leaked
FUSPntRXoAA3Ked

Well of the remaining 5 characters 2 are Spidey and Scarlet Witch, not too surprising. Also that corrupted Hulk, Venom, and Sabretooth enemies.
Leaves 3 more playable characters if I remember right. Expect one to be Moonknight. Also a season pass with more characters leaked but no specific details

FFXV was basically a lesser Xenoblade, but I still really enjoyed my time with it. I need to go back and play Royal Edition one of these days. Just wish they’d uncap the frame rate on the Series X so I don’t have to sacrifice the visual quality for performance when the machine can certainly handle both at once.

Eternights is legit the game I'm looking forward to the most other than FF16, it looks fun! And very much my weeb shit, indeed.

No Switch cover leaked... hope this does not mean digital only for Switch.

Oh shit leaker did not heard a Switch version of Midnight Suns! Either cancelled or coming later. Come on 2K, don't take away our games, we're already getting less than others!

the state of play was legit

ff16 looks amazing

horizon vr blew my goddamn fuckin mind

im happy

That Midnight Suns news has me nervous as someone who wants it on Switch.

Thinking the same thing. Even though I'll probably go digital, hate to see when there's no option.

Or they are doing the normal thing and it’s just not getting special editions again. I wouldn’t worry till we get a trailer, we did get Xcom 2 after all

Finished every side quest in this playthrough of Xenoblade DE. Not sure if I want to go after the super bosses or just finish the playthrough tonight so I can finally get to Future Connected.

My biggest problem with Final Fantasy 15 is how small the world felt. It was supposed to be about an epic road trip with your best friends. Instead, it felt like driving around the rural suburbs of your home city, visiting every Wawa with your bros. There was no feeling of the world or story expanding beyond what you originally thought. I'm talking about moments like leaving Midgar, or discovering the new continents in FF9, or the dream sequences in FF8. There is no mystery to chase. In FF 15, the empire is bad and the guy you think is the main villain turns out to be the main villain. You don't even journey to other countries until near the end of the game. Funnily the game was supposed to be about an open world road trip but I thought the linear train journey was the best part of the game.

I'm hoping FF16 capture the grand scale and sense of adventure that was missing from 15.

Every time I say I'm taking a break from my collecting hobby or something like that, something always gotta come up and challenge that every god damned time

Midnight Suns's Nintendo site page is gone, it was there a couple of months ago. I'm bracing myself for the worst.

I watched Hidden Figures.

Kristen Dunst look like she was on the verge of tears in every one of her scenes lol.

Good performances all round. Good feel movie, tho I would like to read the actual events cause some of it was noticeable Dramatization, like I’m absolutely positive they would confirm the numbers for launch way before the pilot leaves lol, here it happens literally minutes before he takes off to space!!!

Just got back from my first time teaching at a new school, and once again was reminded of the power of games, especially Nintendo's, to connect people.

Once I mentioned to the kids that I was a big Switch gamer, their eyes just lit up and suddenly instead of being just another grownup I was someone they could relate to and wanted to share their own opinions and experiences with.
We were mostly just trying to help everyone get to know each other as an introductory session, so it led to some lovely discussions about people's favourite games and the systems we all grew up with.

It was all so positive and warm, really made my day.

That State of Play from the perspective of an Xbox fan was pretty good too. Final Fantasy XVI being PS5 exclusive was known since day one, but the Resident Evil 4 remake reveal and confirmation that Street Fighter is coming back to Xbox are pretty worthwhile announcements.

Now Xbox just has to bring the goods next weekend.

I feel like I'm losing my mind with folks making the "Sony just won E3" takes

1) it's dead, jim (and better for it, no more apples and oranges!)
2) that was all third party (with 2/3 of the big hits coming to Xbox, 1 timed exclusive") and 2023. Of course it was announced ahead of time to be, but if there's nothing else coming till september it's the same result

Can anyone tell me how NG+ works in Xenoblade DE? Is it something you select from the title screen or is it automatically done from loading clear data?

Not to mention there's no telling what Xbox will bring outside of some obvious games like Starfield, Redfall, and the late Deathloop port. And Starfield isn't insignificant.

Just picked up my guitar for the first time in a few months to relieve some stress. For the classic rock/dad rock fans out there, I learned Everything I Own by Bread and a big chunk of Ten Years Gone by Led Zeppelin. Feels so good to be playing again.

I think if anything, people saying these sorts of things is just very telling as to how disappointing the last few years have been for the industry as a whole. Any pre-pandemic show of that quantity of content would have most people doom-posting about Sony.

Oh I just realized, Toy Soldiers HD switch never did release did it? I’m bummed

I really need to pull out my Bass and practice again. I can read tabs but for the most part I mess with rocksmith. I probably haven’t touched it since last august

Now that the baby food that was State of Play is over, we can get back to the big boy meals. That's right, we're getting more Sonic Frontiers footage tomorrow!

Sad to learn that Switch Roadtrip Event is just Kirby/Switch Sports/Strikers, all of which I'll have in hand by the time it reaches my city. I wonder if it's worth signing up for potential swag items?

What’s the gameplay like?
It’s kinda like a memory game mixed with QTEs, although calling them QTEs is a little unfair. So far I’ve only played through what I assume is a long tutorial where the game teaches you different cheating techniques. Actually pulling them off is tense and satisfying. I wonder if the game will open up later on and let you decide which cheat is the best to use in different situations.

And of course the presentation is fabulous. The art and writing alone are worth the price of admission.

Stayed up too late/long playing Triangle Strategy so I could complete chapters 15 and 16, meaning next week (because Mass Effect is my weekend game) I can get to chapter 17 and hit the GOLDEN ROUTE button. Woop woop

I was reading an article about a genetic study that showed that the Turkish people (living in Turkey) are more genetically related to modern Greeks than they are with peoples in other Turkic speaking countries in central Asia. This suggests that the majority of modern day Turks are descendants of Greek people who bred Ottoman Turks and/or adopted Turkish language, culture, and religion. This makes sense to me since the Greeks had already been living in Anatolia for hundreds of years prior to the Ottoman Turks arrival. I thought this was really amazing demonstration of how people and cultures change over time through interactions with other people and cultures. The migration of the Turkic language from Northern China to Western Asia is also really fascinating.

But then I read about how some Turkish scholars are really upset about this study because they want to believe that all of Turkey is composed of 100% pure blood Ottoman Turks and that even the suggestion that some their ancestors were not Turks is offensive.
