I know this is a vibe kill, but as a Nintendo fan, sometimes the toxic positivity here and the fanboyism does not make me want to come back.
who exactly is threatening you with the gulags for being a hater

is the presence in the room with us now?

I'm like the fifth person quoting this post so apologies for that, I'm just intensely curious about why you think this way. If anything I've seen more negativity than positivity on this forum today. Hell I just posted about Metroid Fusion only being aight.

it’s bears repeating

Not the person you're quoting, but I think yeahs can add to this feeling. If you post that you're disappointed or frustrated or anything negative, and then someone makes a sarcastic post about how haters are wrong and gets a lot of yeahs, that can feel like a wave of people shouting you down for expressing yourself even if it isn't.

Once when I was ten years old I was AFBAC (Assigned Female By Animal Crossing). I have yet to solve whatever type of gender dysphoria that gave me.

I get why fanboyism can be grating and bad, and while there's definitely going to be some of that on a Nintendo-centric forum I feel like Fami does a pretty good job of downplaying and trying not to have too much of that. But I am always mystified whenever the term 'toxic positivity' comes out - what does that even mean? It's not a term I had ever heard until fairly recently and I've always had a hard time wrapping my head around it.
In a social context, it's basically the act of invalidating negativity. The equivalent of saying "turn that frown upside down!"

It's been years since I went there, so I have no idea what it's like now, but I remember at one point negativity was basically outlawed on Smashboards, so that always gave me a good idea of what it was about. I don't really see how it applies to Famiboards, but it's a thing.

The Yeahs thing makes sense though. My most popular posts are usually dumb jokes, there's typically a much lower ceiling on a long critical analysis. Which is to be expected, but it's easy to see how that crowd reaction element can create the impression of an atmosphere that smothers negative thoughts. Which is healthy to some degree, if you could spew whatever negativity you wanted with zero pushback that'd just be 4Chan, and what happens on 4Chan is that its default state is a packed cage of animals getting prodded with a stick so that they start writhing around biting each other, an atmosphere that's very hostile to any form of discussion higher than shit-flinging, but it also goes the other way.

What I think toxic positivity in a forum looks like is just a general lack of substance because the act of analysis generally goes hand in hand with the capacity for criticism. The reason enforced positivity often feels authoritarian and akin to propaganda to me is, well, it's just generally not a good idea to ever be wholly uncritical, and anyone who does it is trying to sell you something or being someone's useful idiot.

I see that Helldivers 2 has entered the angry gamers phase of its live service cycle complete with negative Steam reviews and Youtubers fanning the flames.

I really appreciate that somebody went completely overboard to create a Wu-tang flan πŸ˜‚

Now that I've been alternating between the Switch and the PS5 I don't know if the switch has the volume super high or the ps5 is very low. Like having it at 5 in mi tv is enough for switch audio games to be heard in the other room, but the same level with ps5 is just a step away from mute

It's that irritating time of the year where the weather can't decide if it's cold or hot so you need to keep the comforter on standby, ready to be thrown off the bed or kicked off the bed as needed.

April/May in Colorado is pretty annoying (at least indoors!) for this reason - half the time if you go to a public building like a school or something they never have the A/C and Heat both ready to go when the weather does the constant up-and-down we get this time of year

After about a 6 year hiatus my cluster headaches are back and with a vengeance.

I do not care for the gremlin trying to burrow out of my brain through my left eyeball.

It's been like that in Jersey since late March. Sometimes it feels like both!

Sorry for the self-promotion in a time I haven't been active but I uploaded a track to Spotify! It's a metal cover of "Danger" (the boss theme) of Secret of Mana, with impressively high quality art by me.

Any form of engagement (listens/follows) are massively appreciated. If anyone listens, hope you enjoy!

Depending on how it weathers this phase it'll either wind down to being a pretty chill experience or become an alt-right hellscape.

I just posted a thread for video game collectors, go check it out if you want to share your stuff!

Spent a portion of the day going down the Zelda BOTW and TOTK fan animations rabbit hole on Youtube. I'd say it was about 30% Zelda + Link cutesy relationship stuff, 20% Link doing dumb things with Ultrahand, and 50% thirsting on Ganondorf.

Weather's been weird here lately. It's raining in May which is basically unheard of for SoCal. Always happens after I wash my car too, of course.

okay help me out, I’m going insane

I remember the Grapple Dog Switch icon sucking shit. it was a blue square with the dog’s head in it. mediocre.

lo and behold, I look today and it rules. it’s got an action shot, a logo, everything.

did… did I dream the bad icon? Switch Icon Showdown only seems to have the good one…

someone help me here, I swear this was real

with how people are about Switch icons, it seemed like a classic bad move followed by glow up

but I can find no record of the previous one existing

like Switch Icon Showdown has both the shit Pentiment one and the great Pentiment one… so what the fuck?

but perhaps I truly am… mad

Powerful nostalgia for that 2006 to 2010 period where I was super duper attached to gaming on my Xbox 360 and very specifically had flashbacks to the Halo 3 reveal trailer blowing my little teenage mind and then not being able to play the game properly when it arrived at my door at a little over a year later because the special edition packaging meant the disc was loose.

Anyway I haven't thought about that period of gaming or life for a while but I've got the Gears of War 2 theme stuck in my head and also need to replay the Bungie Halo campaigns at some point.
