to summarize, the scene suggests that the "modern-day" parts of the franchise are going to be shifted into the far future. with the 21st century being teasingly referred to as “ancient history"

notably, this isn't the first time a game has had an unused post-credits scene with a major twist. last time was Shadow of the Tomb Raider, though in that case the cutscene was fully accessible without hacking if you avoided installing the day one patch.

the twist there being the reveal that Jacqueline Natla (the main antagonist from the PS1 games) exists in the reboot timeline.

while Tomb Raider has had a fairly lengthy delay between new installments (though the upcoming Netflix series reportedly is a direct sequel to Shadow) Assassin’s Creed gets new installments fairly often, so it'll be interesting to see if elements from either of these unused endings get brought back.

Far future? Very interesting, only played up to AC3 but was always curious where the modern stuff would end up going. I’ve heard some pretty weird stuff regarding the modern story and I know most people didn’t care about it but I always liked the potential

Are they finally going to do something with the modern day stuff? I've always been one of those weirdos that enjoyed that part of the franchise a whole lot :D

Ubisoft has made an official statement on the unused ending. New
"All we can say is that what's not in your playthrough does not exist," Mirage's art director Jean-Luc Sala wrote, following this up with a winking emoji. Eurogamer previously contacted Ubisoft about the mysterious scene, but received no response.
how curious.
the response of ";)" makes me think they might be considering patching it back in at some point. the response specifically came from a Reddit AMA the devs did yesterday.
