Personally, I'm hoping that Nintendo keeps with their gameplay-first concepts. More stuff like Tears of the Kingdom, less of the cinematic "Last of Us"-likes that we've been getting like God of War or Jedi or stuff like that. Not a fan of those and they could be more fun gameplay wise (the weird exception being Survival Horror like Resident Evil weirdly).Oh yes, absolutely looking forward to Xenoblade 4. It might not be given the "Blade" monicker but yeah, I'm dying to see their next big game. Perhaps... the new action RPG they've been making for a while? Super hyped either way.
Back to the thing in the other hand, their games are certainly shaping the industry already. It's hard to say how their attitude will change with such a powerful console at their disposal... I'm betting on much better stories and cinematic approaches myself, though that's not a concern for Monolith in particular.
I hope it's just as functional, even if a bit different, but I also hope it's compatible with OLED Dock! It definitely should be.It just occurred to me how extremely important it is to me that the Switch 2 has the SWOLED kickstand rather than the original one.

However I will keep talking about Xenoblade, or just Xeno generally. If a Xenogears remake or port happens, i'll literally explode.

We got evidence of the timeline for physical production of T239 in 2022, and maybe evidence of production of Nintendo's devkits that use it. That's really not nothing. oldpuck has posted a few times why those finds were important (beyond just being cool to see).Great. So we're back to nothing. All that hype crashed back slamming down hard.
If anyone here had (new) SDK access, I think the discussion would be a lot spicier than it is. We're still at the stage where it's secondhand from people who know people who work at companies where one team has SDK access. Some people here have SDK access and are here for the fun.
Honestly, I feel like one or two narrative-driven franchises along the lines of Sony’s recent output wouldn’t hurt. This is especially true considering that Nintendo has yet to top Kid Icarus: Uprising with regards to the English voice production.Personally, I'm hoping that Nintendo keeps with their gameplay-first concepts. From what I cant tell, Nintendo's "tradition" works because it's so fundamentally solid. It's the biggest case of "If it ain't broke" I can see in gaming.I deal with trends in my career. I've noticed tradition always trumps the recent trend over the course of time. Isn't it interesting how Sony pivoted to "Movie-like" Gaming experiences and now the air is deflating out of that balloon. Now, its starting to revert back to the mean (AKA: Gameplay over theatrics). Other examples: MMORPG's -> FPS's -> Battle Royales -> Souls' likes -> etc.
We as humans have a tendency to jump on anything fresh and overcompensate. Our latest example is AI. AI this. AI that. Yes, It will change the world but not in its current form and not now.
Anyways, This is why Nintendo believes wholeheartedly in Tradition (And by extension: The Japanese culture). It endures.

I had a small think about it, but I feel like if people heard about what happened behind the closed-doors, you'd think people would've said "Yep, this is more of the same stuff that happened at Gamescom".Oh God, I forgot about TGS. Guess we didn't get anything new and/or the system just wasn't shown behind closed doors. It's also possible people are being tight-lipped, but that may be wishful thinking on my part.
There's nothing wrong about wanting more from them in the storytelling department, at all. Neither of those cinematic-likes aren't fun, all the opposite. They're already there with everything Monolith Soft makes, it's their EAD teams that I'd like to transition to this style sooner than later. I can see why they have avoided storytelling up to this point, but considering the console we're talking about it might be time to put this exclusive focus on gameplay to sleep, especially now that Nintendo as a whole is transitioning to be a media company (movies, TV shows, etc) according to Doug Bowser himself. Both of these departments can be great, they're not mutually exclusive.Personally, I'm hoping that Nintendo keeps with their gameplay-first concepts. More stuff like Tears of the Kingdom, less of the cinematic "Last of Us"-likes that we've been getting like God of War or Jedi or stuff like that. I don't recall getting anything at TGS 2016 about the NX. Maybe devs over there are tight lipped? Even if we were to get something, I don't think it would be anything significant and would be very similar to the Gamescom presentation.Oh God, I forgot about TGS. Guess we didn't get anything new and/or the system just wasn't shown behind closed doors. It's also possible people are being tight-lipped, but that may be wishful thinking on my part.
I think that new building they're making would probably make-way for an additional EPD team that focuses on that style of game. Hell, that new building generally is a golden ticket for Nintendo's next stage in development of games and hardware. It's kind of a shame that it's so far away, but it's a nice feeling to know that it'll happen eventually.EPD would have to completely change how they design games for a shift like that to happen
Not to mention that most of their English voice productions still aren’t unionized even now.EPD would have to completely change how they design games for a shift like that to happen

Luckily, it doesn't need to be finished for that seems like. The building is already being filled up with developers as we talk, once it's finished it'll be one of their pillars going forward for sure.I think that new building they're making would probably make-way for an additional EPD team that focuses on that style of game. I've got issues with that if only because some journalist would've at least said "Yeah we heard that there wasn't anything new to report on".I choose to assume it was shown, but there was nothing new to report on.
I mean, going from what someone sent around here anyway... The building seems to be filling up either way, but it's not considered production-ready. I guess, as a way to house their new staff until it can actually develop some games of its own.Wait really?
I had an internal schedule with what to expect with Nintendo and with that you just ruined it. It took minutes of effort to make that schedule. MINUTES!!
Anyway that's very cool. I'm curious as to what teams they're going to expand (please Monolith Soft) but past that... that's just very great to hear.
Pretty much, they're pivoting to GaaS because capitalism, not because their style of game hasn't been a success as of now. They're holding a monopoly on the narrative driven AAA space since 2013, and it doesn't seem like they're losing it anytime soon. It wouldn't hurt to have another legit competitor in there, once Nintendo is proven capable of producing those sorts of experiences.God of War Ragnarok is on pace to sell well over 25m copies
Sony is pivoting to GaaS games because they have no competition and their only path to future growth is taking a bite out of Fortnite. They have their current segment completely locked up.
media/youtubers will do anyting to get clicks,And every YTuber is calling it a "leak" despite you framing it as a rumor. Rumor doesn't tend to bring as much attention, as rumor carries the connotation it may not be 100% accurate and one must prepare for the possibility of the info being wrong/false. "Leak" has people think it's 100% correct, thus brings in more attention.
The info has now been circulate and become a "truth" for many & will forever be part of the leak conversation. You could post an update saying, "I have doubts about this info now" and it wouldn't make a difference.
we need to see what is the priority for Nintendo, Animal Crossing or Splatoon, Nintendo might want to release Splatoon 4 sooner, Animal Crossing on Switch sucessor can waithave you considered that the side order delays could be because of 4?
That’ll require Nintendo to start treating voice actors with the respect they deserve.I mean, going from what someone sent around here anyway... Have you SEEN New Horizons’ sales numbers? Animal Crossing is obviously the higher priority. That plus Splatoon could use a little bit of a break anyway with how much sales for Splatoon 3 have fallen off in the West after the first few months. All I want is for the series I love to grow, and I feel like doing another iterative Splatoon entry so soon after 3 may do more harm than good.media/youtubers will do anyting to get clicks,

Unionization is a relatively quick process, that's the least of their worries. Not every narrative driven game needs that much voice acting as well, cutscene direction matters much more for those and it's got plenty of margin for improvement in their side. That’ll require Nintendo to start treating voice actors with the respect they deserve.
a lot of smaller scale games, very few ambitous games, dont expect a lot of Tears of the Kingdom kinda of gamesA powerful system is a blessing and a curse specifically for Nintendo. We're probably going to see a few releases where Nintendo teams are being assigned a lower-risk project just so they can get accustomed to the powerful hardware.
That being said, we've got the blessing to this. Oh my god, when they make a big project that fully uses the hardware, we're probably gonna be in for some games that are the best of the decade. I genuinely cannot wait.
I’m not saying every game should be that, but maybe one or two franchises going in that angle wouldn’t hurt. The mistake Sony is making is homogenizing their lineup.Really hope Nintendo doesn't make the jump to boring narrative heavy third person games. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was already almost ruined by this angle.
True, it shouldn’t be hard. But why has Nintendo been avoiding it like the plague for years at this point? That said, I’ll give you points for bringing up cutscene direction.Unionization is a relatively quick process, that's the least of their worries. However it's not really worth dwelling on unless something crops up again.
I can die a happy man if we get more smaller games but a few towering pillars of great games. I don't need the world, I just a baseline with potential for bliss.a lot of smaller scale games, very few ambitous games, dont expect a lot of Tears of the Kingdom kinda of games
My best guess is that Nintendo did further discussions with higher-ups at bigger Japan-based companies about the Switch 2 and discussed deals or potential titles to release on the system. That'd explain why it's not something discussed among journalists, but still justified why they were at TGS. It's still a very important thing to do for Nintendo, they need to get a good framework down to make a good relationship with developers that may not have interacted with Nintendo as much as they should (or to further develop it in the case of Bamco, Square and Capcom). We know they were there but only in the business meeting area. I’d find it strange to demonstrate the product only at Gamescom, but then again I’m not sure what happens in the business area of TGS. Sounds like a similar case on paper.
I too have hang-ups on the misuse of the word "leak" and how it superseded if not has become used interchangebly with the word "rumor."And every YTuber is calling it a "leak" despite you framing it as a rumor. Yea. My post was about P4bl0's findings though. That's what happens when you have two very similar things where the fundamental difference is literally down to how it's talked about. People merge the two and then the lines become unrecognisable. It sucks, but it's my mistake for not realising how similar the two have been viewed in recent years.I too have hang-ups on the misuse of the word "leak" and how it superseded if not has become used interchangebly with the word "rumor."
If I'm being honest, with the news of Factions slowly being shelved, I think Sony is gonna have a big rough period very soon thanks to that GAAS venture. I'm genuinely concerned for them.Just as a side note: My previous comment doesn't hint that they are failing or will fail. Trendy things explode in popularity then blow up and revert back to normalcy. Tradition is what is constant, less risky (This attribute is huge in the business world), and proven. I see Sony losing their identity as demand slows and development cost soars forcing them to pivot. GaaS seems to be thought of as a safe haven but it isn't. Ask Square Enix and EA.
I think once the common folk have to start thinking about their money due to economic climate shifting, You'll see GaaS games take another hit.
They don't, at least not in any real way. Nintendo allowed a game with 19 hours worth of cutscenes to be developed and published by one of their highest development teams (Xenoblade Chronicles 3). It's just not something they believed on during the Switch era due to a variety of factors, including the lack of man and system power to adequately make one of these. Prior to the Wii, Nintendo games were top notch in this department despite the lack of dialogue and some even followed a proper continuity. I have no idea why all of their amazing worldbuilding efforts during the SNES/N64/GC have been revisionism'd like that.I’m not saying every game should be that, but maybe one or two franchises going in that angle wouldn’t hurt. The mistake Sony is making is homogenizing their lineup. Likewise, I wouldn’t really call XB3 ruined considering that it was a nice return to form compared to XB2 & was even nominated for GotY. And while I do agree with Christopher Judge winning Best Performance last year, Harry McEntire 100% should’ve gotten an nomination.
But the first step before any of that is to start unionizing more of their English voice productions. Nintendo sticks out like a sore thumb compared to most of the industry in this regard.
True, it shouldn’t be hard. But why has Nintendo been avoiding it like the plague for years at this point? That said, I’ll give you points for bringing up cutscene direction.
if you expecting a story focused Legend of Zelda, Metroid or Mario, you all be disapoited, Nintendo is gameplay focus, story is a aftertrough. They don't, at least not in any real way. I’m holding Nintendo to the standards of today, which they largely aren’t measuring up to. The fact that their best English voice production was over a decade ago says a lot. Only Three Houses & Xenoblade 3 came even remotely close since. They don't, at least not in any real way. Nintendo has a lot of issues with VA work for some reason. They're getting better, namely with Three Houses and Xenoblades 1 and 3 (2 gets an asterisk here due to the dubious nature of the work), but it's still so odd that Kid Icarus Uprising is the odd-one out of all the Nintendo titles out there. Genuinely doesn't make sense to me.I’m holding Nintendo to the standards of today, which they largely aren’t measuring up to. Sure, but they didn't even need voice acting to make those games stand out in the storytelling department. There's still a lot they can do to improve their cutscene direction and overarching lore, because they did it before and could have continued if it wasn't by the complete shift of their brand towards gimmicks (that apparently are not a thing for this new console).that was a long time ago
I gotta say you is quite articulate for a 9 year old. From what I cant tell, Nintendo's "tradition" works because it's so fundamentally solid. It's the biggest case of "If it ain't broke" I can see in gaming.
Not saying they're perfect, and I'm not denying that Ghost Train Rides, MMOs, FPS', Battle Royales and especially the Souls trends don't have merit, but it's a nice comforting feeling with Nintendo specifically. It's a good constant.
That being said, Nintendo also respects the philosophies employed by their subsidiaries and second parties. It's a genuinely great system that they have. I think Nintendo would do well to follow the curve once or twice, but it isn't needed. What they do works, and they evolve as needed. That'll do me.
I agree, however I've just got a fair few issues with those "Third-person cinematic narrative-driven action-adventure games" that they keep making. I just think innovating on those would be for the best.
For what it's worth though, Resident Evil 4 Remake has a lot of those qualities, but it works a lot better for me because the setpieces feel meaningful, dense in number, and the moment-to-moment gameplay feels tense and horrific. I feel like that's why something like God of War 2018 didn't work for me while RE4R did.
That and Mercenaries mode is one of the best arcade-modes ever put into a game, that stuff is great.
I think they are getting more serious. Heck they got voice acted flowers in a 2d mario game. Which is only 2 weeks away! Stoked.Nintendo has a lot of issues with VA work for some reason. I do want to see Nintendo try harder though, they're getting so close.
You know I'm pretty bummed none of the tech minded people in here responded to my call for some speculation about how far drake could be pushed in a chunky boy SteamDeck or bigger sized switch, while docked. I think it could be cranked up pretty damn high, perhaps close to as high as you'd get if it was just in a home console setup. What would that look like? Requires research/knowledge I'm too lazy to do/gain.This thread is getting dangerously close to software speculation again...
We already know, regardless of how chunky it is I believe. After 2 TFLOPS on handheld mode, you start getting into diminishing returns no matter what you do. On docked, it's pointless to go past 4 TFLOPS for the same reason, the CPU could be pushed past 2.6hz but... It barely moves the needle beyond that point, too.I gotta say you is quite articulate for a 9 year old.

Things are really heating upAlso another fun fact, EA spotted shipping devkits (Nintendo and Playstation) to their UK studio in April and July 2023, they are cooking.
That was later pointed out to just be for the Switch 1.Things are really heating up
