StarTopic Anime |ST| Is Captain Falcon more anime than Fire Emblem?

Weird? I think the designs and lighting look fantastic.
The director has done some good stuff before, including the best episode of Star Wars Visions! So I he's had some experience working with western franchises.

A question to every members in this ST, is there an interest for a thread focusing on animation outside of Japan? Or could we simply talk about any animation project, regardless of the origin, in this very thread.

I've been following this really cool french site/Twitter account called Catsuka, which aims to highlight any animation project the creator happens to find. It's been a thing since 2000, I have discovered a bunch of really cool projects thanks to him. The new hypothetical ST could use Catsuka as a basis to share info about any animated film/series that catches our interest.

What do you think?

EDIT: I made a thread if anyone wants to participate.

Make a different thread, let’s just keep this anime. Which does include some coproduction stuff to be fair, but it’s better not to dilute

Gachiakuta anime announced for 2025. Produced by studio Bones

Anime-onlies, what did you think of this first season?
Came for funny food hijinks and TRIGGER, stayed for its hidden depths.

There was a lot of hype behind the anime announcement and I'd say it definitely lived up to it and I'm really happy we'll be getting more of it. Also judging from the few pages I've seen, they really managed to adapt the style of the Manga perfectly.

This is cool, they are making an original Guilty Gear Strive anime.

I don't want urusei yatsura to finish next week.

The original Dungeon meshi won the Seiun Sho for Best Manga, Japan's highest sci-fi/fantasy award, a few days ago.

Good lord I need to go back and watch the older seasons of Reincarnated as a Slime again because they throw so much gibberish at you that I can't keep up. The Kingdom of Farfanoogle hates the monsters of Snarfurgen Forest so they allie with the Holy Knights as Shibiggidy who are secretly being manipulated by the....

I like the show but I feel like they are just throwing out ideas that go far beyond the scope that was originally intended.

I'm completely fed up with Kyoto Animation's cut-and-dried adaptation of Sound! Euphonium, where the original Shuichi and Kumiko's parts were heavily cut and shifted to Kumiko and Kosaka Reina, and Kyoto Animation is very keen on spreading a particular lesbian sensibility to their diehard fans, which you probably can't understand, but otaku culture's 21st-century evolution includes a lesbian sensibility to (Not really lesbianism, but a kind of girl-on-girl ambiguity that mobilizes the otaku community's gaze.) And while Kyoto Animation was undoubtedly one of the pioneers, I'm really fed up with the amount of complexes they've censored this time around by destroying the heteronormative tendencies of the originals to deliberately satisfy the lesbian gaze of their fans.

(Not really lesbianism, but a kind of girl-on-girl ambiguity that mobilizes the otaku community's gaze.)
So I want it on record that I'm the exact kind of 21st Century lesbian-loving otaku you're talking about, who wouldn't bat an eye at the series if it was the 1937892th anime about a guy and a girl in a relationship in a school and has batted an eye purely because of the yuribait.

And also because there are approximately ten even remotely chubby girls in anime and Riko Nagase is one of them. I'm mad about that too but it's not what I'm supposed to be complaining about and anyway it's beside the point. Ahem.

That being said
, studios seem to want to have their cake and eat it too. You'd be a lot happier with no yuri and I'd be a lot happier with lesbian content beyond vague allusions and camera tricks. Doing it like this gives vague dissatisfaction to both of our groups and pleases neither, and almost every studio does it. It's so annoying.

Since I haven’t been posting anything lately here’s my catch up with a bunch of endings
UY 45
The day the earth got Shroomed. Things have come full circle and Ataru is still an idiot.

Urusei Yatsura -end
Man I'm going to miss these idiots. Pretty perfect thematic end, right with the ending having the classic theme as the background sigh, such a fun run and a perfect upgrade of a classic story in a much more palatable package with most the rough edges removed. I’ll have to rewatch when they dub it

Salad Bowl 11
Yeah that Doll is grade 10 cursed, she was rightfully chased out… tho historically speaking it's not that unheard of for the head hair. Aquarian trip was cute. Livia meets up with the one good influence in her life that opens things up. Chocolate overkill XD

Salad Bowl 12
Cute little ending, Sara conquerer of school. Livia's luck same as ever XD

Tiger Mask W - end
Just a narratively solid ending overall even with the world still moving. All our main characters got their time to shine and develop. Excellent watch overall had a great time.

Grandpa and Grandma turn young - End
Man that hit me too hard in the end DX

Also Nokotan is confirmed multi service!

Started Dungeon Meshi. 3 episodes in, it's a little slow so far but it's enjoyable. The worldbuilding and character interactions are great. I'm guessing they are setting the table for bigger story stuff later on.

I just really REALLY want to recommend "The Raven Does not Choose its Master" / "Karasu wa Aruji wo Erabanai" that's been airing this season. It sadly it buried underneath so many big names this season.

It's such a good mystery story with the Apothecary Diaries setting premise, but more serious and its just really really good!

Might even be my fav series airing this season! It's gonna have 20 eps so its still ongoing. So if you like a really solid mystery show, I implore u to check it out!

Not what I was expecting on the theme, but it’s fine XD. ED is being sung by Suguru’s VA but not up yet.

So here's my prelim summer list.

cachedImage.png

Still hoping Crunchy grabbed Grendizer U and Kinnikuman(heck I’d even take multibroadcast on both of em like Nokotan. The fact the latter hasn’t been confirmed for Netflix in NA despite being licensed by it everywhere else means somethings up)

Again so happy they’re finally giving this one another go, only classic Go Nagai mech series that didn’t get a Shin take almost 2 decades back

Train to the End of the World thankfully didn't squander the ending. Personally thought it's kinda cool that the world didn't change back to exaxtly the state it was before 7G but still an improvement over what it was during 7G. I still think it could've used a couple episodes more though. Still a great time.

Konsuba Season 3 also left me wanting more after the end, 11 episodes just wasn't enough, here's hoping they don't take 7 years again...
Worth the wait though, just for the Divorcedness joke at the end

Watching Mob Psycho Season 3 after it made onto Netflix has put me in an Anime watching arc. Finished Cour 2 of Bleach TYBW and started JJK Season 2. 2 of my friends love JJK so I gave it another chance after finding the previous arc boring and I'm really liking Season 2.

Mob Psycho clears tho, Master Reigen 🫡

So, next season...
I have Grendizer U on my list, Sakuna and My deer friend Nokotan. Also continuing Spice & Wolf. Will probably be roped into watching season 2 of Nier and Tower of God. Any other ones that stood out to people? Maybe Mayonaka Punch?
Kinnikuman Perfect Origin Arc, the original manga version supposed to be one of the best Shonen battle arcs of the last ten or so years, plus Superheroes plus pro wrestling is a pretty easy sell. I Parry Everything looks ridiculous(it’s fantasy not Isekai, so are the next 2 I’m gonna mention). The Ossan Newbie Adventurer, Trained to Death by the Most Powerful Party, Became Invincible(I read the manga version, it’s a pretty fun trip), and Dungeon People both look fun. There’s also the Sakuna rice and ruin adaption. Dahlia in Bloom sounds like my kind of show.

Nier isn’t on my list cause I still need to watch the first season and I’ll be waiting for the dub

Oh yeah, I might look into Kinnikuman, you did mention it's fine as a jumping on point, right?

Yup, you’ll miss out on callbacks but the original run ended on its own terms(super rare for the 80’s), there’s a year and a half timeskip in universe to where this show starts, episode 0 is going to be a best of the fights of the original run that should touch on some key points setting this up.

It’ll be like jumping into Dragonball with Z, sure there’s stuff connected to the past but the main arc is decently on its own since it kicks off with all the rival factions of the original show coming together for a peace agreement. The lead is retired, after winning the crown of his homeworld(I mean that literally) and got married(the finale of the og run). Earth is at peace… till obviously stuff goes down XD.

Tho unlike Dragonball the creative duo loves bringing everyone back to give them a time to shine and makes sure the lead and his rival aren’t the only ones with wins. Even bringing back characters that got done dirty or one shotted. But since it’s superhero wrestling all you need to know is “oh is that an American football themed superhero? Is that a sentient Asian sitting toilet? Why is that guy just a bunch of tiles stuck together?”

@oomoepoo also I wasn’t joking on those examples

Also here’s the latest trailer… which well basically says part of what I just said XD. Also the OP reveal which they got Flow who I was not expecting at all, thought they’d do a callback to the old(and very popular) themes.

This looks wild. Definitely going to check it out :D

Also FLOW's never a bad choice for an anime song tbh.

Oh totally, tho everybody figured we’d get a remix of the classic theme Go Fight since it’s a certified classic(heck all 4 classic themes are beloved, the original 3 were from Akira Kushida of Xabungle/super sentai/ Space sheriff fame) tho I’m sure it’s back as Suguru’s insert theme

Oh and did I mention the original series created the trope of “masked and cloaked villains who couldn’t possibly fit under the disguises cause they’re huge but weren’t designed yet? This remake of the second Op they did for a pachinko machine showed it

Oh and I forgot to mention the lead Suguru, is pretty unique, for a Shonen jump protag period let alone one from the late 70’s. He’s a Gyudon loving braggart coward who’s easily frightened and recognizes he’s weaker than most of his peers but still has a hero’s heart in the end. He’s not some cocky kid who thinks he can do anything, he fights for his friends despite knowing he’ll probably lose and tries to bluff out first.
He’s very much: what if a loser gag protag became the lead of a battle Shonen, and while he matured he didn’t become a different person
That’s not to say he doesn’t have a powerup(inner burning strength) and 48 killer moves he got from his mentor Kamehame tho(we’ve only seen a handful of em tho. Also in this Kamehame is voiced by the OG 80’s Suguru Akira Kamiya, who was also Kenshiro in FOTNS(funny enough contemporary to the original run, that’s how old this series is) and Ryo in City Hunter among many many others)

My picks for next season are as follows:

Continuing from the previous season: Yatagarasu (can't recommend enough if you love fantasy drama and if you need something while waiting for Apothecary Diaries s2).

New shows: The Elusive Assassin, Delico's Nursery, Tasogare Outfocus, Dungeon no Naka no Hito, Bye-Bye Earth.

Shows I'm Watching On The Side: Kaiji (my nerves!!), Overtake, Mushishi s2, Legend of the Galactic Heroes (excellent political drama I am incredibly LTTP on), some other shows I didn't get to from previous seasons.

It's going to be a very slow season for me after a pretty strong spring. My favorite is probably Wind Breaker (I had the lowest expectations for it too), then Yatagarasu and Kaiju no. 8. I am so impatient for Fall, since Natsume Yuujinchou is coming back and that series is near and dear to my heart... but so is Blue Lock and I find it very entertaining.

This is the greatest opening of all time.

The ending is fantastic too!

My heart can’t take it, it deserves a remake, but it’s probably some mobile game

If there’s an episode where Nokotan raids a deer cake factory, it’s gonna be hilarious

I hope we get some good anime announcements from the anime expo.

I noticed that Ninja Scroll is having a 30th anniversary screening panel. That would be a good time to announce a 4k version, cause fuck me dead i can't find
a copy of the blu ray.
