StarTopic 2023 GOTY Award Tracking and Discussion |ST|

Spider-man 2 was GameXplain's GOTY, in a weird twist. I haven't really watched them in forever but that's pretty surprising considering how Nintendo heavy this year was.

For a few years now GameXplain have become extreme nitpickers of Nintendo games. While I think it's good to look at things critically and a Nintendo channel certainly doesn't have to like everything they put out, they seem to let their disappointments in aspects of the games completely take over their enjoyment. This year it happened with TotK, Pikmin 4, Wonder... So they're in a weird situation where they're Nintendo fans whose channel is 95% dedicated to Nintendo content in a year where Nintendo put out a lot of good stuff, and yet they seem unable to actually enjoy most of it.

Yeah I've noticed that in the last year or so. Especially from Andre. He pretty much goes out of his way to be complain about Nintendo games. I stopped being subbed to their youtube cause it kinda felt like they were doing outrage bait to get clicks.

I'm just so cynical when it comes to a lot of negativity nowadays cause of how cheaply monetized outrage is lmao.

gamexplain has been shit since even before most of the of the OG cast left with cheep clickbait videos so it doesn't surprise me their own cynical video-making has made them negative cynical people

Kyle Bosnan - TOTK

He used to have good taste. What happened?

He has PTSD - Post Traumatic Shenmue Disorder. After Shenmue III ended up being awful, he couldn't handle it anymore and decided to recluse back into the realm of childrens entertainment. He also has PTLGSD, after what Ueda did to him. Sad!

Tbf, after looking at the video, it looks like F-Zero was his GOTY.

Personally, I enjoy finding awards from previous years and this year. For the past two or three years there have been two annual award tracking sites i could work with "them" to finded awards.
But now an anonymous Persian site has become an awards tracker site. I tried several times to cooperate with them by email and sending unregistered awards, but they did not respond.
thanks to the friends who are active here, if anyone has access to ResetEra , please send them this list so that they can update their list if the "sites" are eligible.

I'm a little late to the party but I just gotta say:
  • I'm happy with Tears of the Kingdom winning many awards;
  • I'm sad that Super Mario Bros Wonder only got 1, it deserves much more than that. Anybody has a source of a tracker for 2017? Wanna see how many Odyssey got;
  • hot take but I think Metroid Prime Remastered should've been eligible if we have other 1:1 remakes counting.

mario odyssey got 37 goty awards back in 2017

You know, with how good DLCs have been this year with many people legit placing expansions as their GOTY, I wonder if Elden Ring's DLC has a shot at big GOTY nominees in 2024 with how much less competitive this year seems to be compared to 2023.

I think it depends how big it is. If it's more of an expansion and really adds a lot, then possibly! But I have a hard time picturing previous From DLCs as GOTY contenders, even the incredible ones like The Old Hunters, given their size and how attached they are to the base game.
