Welp, there it is. They wasted no time

Seems like there's lots of debates going on now if Marvel want to recast and keep the storyline going, or just cut their losses and drop Kang all together and move on in a whole new direction.

Personally, I think the latter is the right way to go. Even if he’s the easiest recast in history, Kang and the Multiverse Saga just havent been hitting even before Majors fumbled the bag, this is the best chance to put their heads down and focus on getting the house back in order without the baggage.

My guess is they will recast because they already have a lot of stuff set up and possibly even early CG being prepped for Avengers 5. That said I am by no means a big Kang fan so I won’t lose sleep if they just drop the character.

If there’s any kind of fuckery, you gotta go so I’m glad Disney both waited for a verdict then acted so swiftly.

And depending on what that fuckery is, we should live in a society where a person can grow and change with the caveat that they have to put the work in, and it can’t just be I-stayed-out-of-public-view-for-a-while-now-let’s-pretend-this-never-happened. I’ll leave it at that as I don’t want to spend a lot of time discussing this.

As for the MCU, I am (as usual) on Team Recast. Marvel isn’t finished the Multiverse Saga especially given The Marvels’ end credit scene, and it seems Deadpool 3’s entire plot revolves around multiverse shenanigans to potentially bring the X-Men into the mix. The end of Loki Season 2 gives Marvel a cleaner path to going in a new direction though I also got the impression that He Who Remains saw Loki’s decision as a possible outcome.

While Majors was awesome in his Marvel roles, there are countless other actors waiting for their opportunity. The concept of variants gives Marvel a lot of leeway here. However, swerving narratively at this point, after laying the groundwork for years would backfire tremendously.

I wonder if they'll eventually take the same lesson they did from Star Wars and put the MCU on ice for a bit to let the hype build.

Coincidentally that is what 2024 will be for them. A lot of movies got delayed to 2025 and beyond to redo different aspects of them.

Except Deadpool 3 is still next year.

Playing Live A Live and I think I stumbled across a character trying to figure out the MCU's problem in 2023..

I just watched Episodes 6 and 7 of What If? S2 and the leap overall from S1 to S2 continues to surprise me.

Though..... I'm not sure if any episode will top 6 right now. Really cool Marvel is embracing more indigenous cultures and stories overall.

Oh cool, What If... season 2 is out now? I guess it's time to renew my sub to Disney+. Echo coming up soon too makes it even better time.

Yep there's only two more episodes, so What If? S2 will be done by tomorrow night. I'm glad they are changing up their upload schedules, keeps things fresh.

That’s a wrap for What If S2

All in all, fun season! More consistent compared to the first one and had more episodes.

Plus we had more Captain Carter, which is never a bad thing

"Interview with Echo executive producer Brad Winderbaum discusses the Marvel Spotlight banner, Wilson Fisk's importance, and how the Netflix show fits into the MCU"

But one of the best parts of this interview (and just confirms my headcanon) that the Marvel Netflix shows are indeed canon to the sacred timeline.

Now bring back Karen Page and Foggy Nelson for Daredevil Born Again!

Anyone start watching Echo?

Yeah I binged it overnight. I enjoyed it overall though it does have some issues. Mostly some pacing and the only major CG scene looks really rough.

I really dig the Choctaw Tribe representation here, I read that the intro in Episode 1 is their depiction of their beliefs for their people so that's pretty cool.

But yeah, fight scenes are pretty good. DD scene is a great watch and I think is a step in the right direction for how they should handle some fight choreo when DD Born Again airs. Ending I'm a little mixed on but it was a decent enough story.

Yeah I enjoyed Echo. Not amazing but better than I was expecting considering all the word it’s been getting over the past couple years.

I haven’t finished Echo yet so I’m all ignoring discourse above to merely pop in and share this:

That was a close one. 🥳

All Marvel Studios had to do was [checks notes] fail repeatedly and fire everyone first. Hold up…

I really enjoyed echo. Alaqua Cox and Vincent D’Nofrio absolutley kill it in their respective rolls. I think Vince’s king pin may be the great comic book movie/show casting since heath ledgers joker, and he deserves an Emmy for it. I also really liked her extended family as well, and getting to learn more about the Choctaw people and culture. The r rating definitely helped to give the fight sequences impact that may not have otherwise been there. I hope marvel does more with the r rating in the future than just blood and guts. The mcu being a sexless universe outside of iron man seemed strange to me, but I also think would like them to explore more mature themes. Hopefully they touch on that in daredevil, and its a good think dead pool 3 is r rated, because that character and Logan should be allowed to say fuck lol.

.
What I didn’t so much like were the super powers. Dont get me wrong, I liked how they tied into her culture, but I feel like it cheapened her character abit. Part of the reason she is cool is because she does not have powers

First episode of Echo done.
Absolutely goddamn loved that fight scene. Everything else though, just a bit odd with the pacing and editing sometimes? Probably because they were using snippets from Hawkeye to bridge the gap between her origin story and her current story, but still. Stuff like her powerfully kicking a door open only to cut to her slowly and carefully walking through the already settled open door? Little things like that made a bunch of the scenes feel like they were half pick-up shots, which.. I mean they may have been if they were adding extra moments to Hawkeye scenes or something, I dunno. It was weird.

Hopefully going forward the episodes will be more consistent since they'll be 100% original.

Also
Fisk is alive, that moment is straight out of the comics. He becomes blind after getting shot in a very similar manner, as a foil to Daredevil.
You called it. 🤣

Echo

I finished the miniseries a few days ago. It’s… fine. Echo kind of felt narratively stilted. At least it didn’t feel actively hostile to viewers like Secret Invasion. Baby steps, right?

Echo tried to cover a lot of ground in only five episodes and definitely did not get there. I didn’t look up the episode count beforehand so when it started wrapping up, I thought it couldn’t possibly be ending already, There needed to be a few more episodes particularly to round out some of Maya’s interpersonal relationships. As is, a lot of it felt unearned like the grandmother’s face turn.

Also, Maya was an antagonist for most of Hawkeye, and I didn’t think they did a good enough job humanizing her as the protagonist of her own miniseries. If Marvel does a season 2, I’d like to see more character work.

Great job casting young Maya.

Unrelated: Really disappointed that Disney/Marvel may not be moving forward with a second season of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law which was one of the better shows. Tatiana Manslany mentioned the show going over budget. There has to be a middle ground between spending $225 million and just not having a show.

Yeah, I hope it happens. It has a lot of potential. Either way, we'll surely see her again in something with how the MCU works, thankfully. Tatiana was just too good to not bring back.

They surely will have to figure out the budget if we do get a S2, though, yeah. Honestly I thought the effects on that show were wildly over-hated and she looked extremely good most of the time considering what she physically is. The 10% of VFX shots that didn't look great were all some people focused on, though.

Absolutely. Tatiana was excellent; perfect casting. One of the best additions to the MCU post-Endgame (in general, really).

Agreed on the VFX. I remember TV CGI from the 1990s/2000s as well as The Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns so I’m not complaining.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ – Wilson Bethel Returns As Bullseye In Marvel Series On Disney+

IMG-1323.gif

It’s wild that Marvel wasn’t originally going to do any of this despite three seasons of how to make a good Daredevil show. What was Daredevil: Born Again even supposed to be about? That strike weirdly may have been the best thing that could have happened to this show.

Woof. Did I fall into the good timeline?
So initially it looked like Born again was gonna be a reboot of sorts, trying to clean-slate it as much as possible and go in their own direction (possibly leaning on "because multiverse!" to justify it?).. but now with all this casting news it appears as though it'll basically be Daredevil season 4 and I am down* 😃

I hope Daredevil turns out good, that was a very special show and the best thing to come out of the greater MCU I would argue, but they have their work cut out for them. Gonna be a wait and see for me.

When I saw the set photos showing on the side of a building Nelson, Murdock, & Page?!?! that's when I knew they're getting back on track!

I actually want to rewatch the Daredevil show now, even though Born Again won't be out until next year sometime. The hype is real!

Finished season 2 of What If...? and while I individually enjoyed each episode, I found it hard to get behind the stakes of the big finale fight. Maybe I missed something or something wasn't explained well?

But it seemed like a trolley problem setup. On one track, you save thousands (?) of super powered people who can return to their own realities, for better or worse. On the other track, an entire reality. Now, I have been very critical of Captain Janeway for murdering one man to save two men. But when the ratio is that for each person who dies, a quintillion or septillion or who even knows how many people get to live, I look at things very differently.

In the end Strange gets his reality returned by just sacrificing himself, which is an even better option, but not one we the viewer or Captain Carter were given to pick from earlier. So it just appears as if the show's big hero fought her hardest to doom octillions in order to save thousands?

Personally I think it was a type of "litmus test" for Secret Wars.

Im ready for Deadpool sillyness

And a very annoyed Logan lol
I'm expecting people to complain about Marvel overdoing the humor yet again... even though that's always been the whole !#@%$&$! point of Deadpool.

And yes, I loved She-Hulk: Attorney At Law and would love to see it go for another season or three. The MCU really could use a regular half-hour sitcom.

Y’all are lallygagging. Here’s the Deadpool teaser:

I may have to avoid future teasers/trailers. There’s so much going on in this alone; I kind of don’t want to know more (yet also kind of do). Not sure if the TVA was previously announced for this. No Mobius yet, but I’m hoping he pops up.

I mean, I don’t need to be convinced to watch Deadpool & Wolverine, but if Reynolds and Jackman are going to do this for the next five months, I’m game.

I’m curious who else shows up. I just read that Pyro was in the teaser. That wasn’t one of the characters I previously knew about.

Decided to do an mcu rewatch for the first time in a few years. Man I forgot how (relatively) grounded that first iron man is compared to everything else, like its kind of hard to believe that Tony stark in that movie is the same guy who goes to space and gets into a fight with a giant purple alien who uses magic gems.

It’s cool that the mcu can be all these things, it can be as grounded as daredevil, as r-rated as Deadpool, and as fantastical as guardians of the galaxy. I don’t think anyone will ever be able to replicate what marvel has done on the same level. The monsterverse is maybe the only thing that comes close, as Godzilla 2014 is very grounded and now the monsters just straight up movie through portals to like another dimension or something

Deadpool & Wolverine trailer delivered. I definitely didn't see that was Pyro in that scene the first time but that's just the tip of the Fox Marvel iceberg I think!

Marvel Jesus indeed.

I dunno how exactly to describe it but this looks like a Marvel movie now. Something about the cinematography, the color grading, and.. maybe the CGI quality? I dunno. Even when Deadpool 2 got a budget hike over the original it still looked very much like its own different thing but this now looks.. hooooo it looks like Disney money, wow

If anyone ever saw that interview with Robin Williams where he talks about the hours of shit Disney couldn't use for Aladdin because it was way too vulgar and meta, just imagine if they actually let it go this time. I know there's that one line in the trailer but what if they let Ryan just go off for this whole movie? 👀

This movie is just going to be Ryan Reynolds making a lot of Disney and MCU jokes, Hugh playing a very annoyed Logan and getting Logan variants? I saw Patch!

- Wade getting punished for time travel by the TVA makes sense

- I hope the rest of the cast makes the jump too. I need Blind Al, NTW, Yukio, Colossus, Dopinder and Vanessa in the main universe.

- New costume is very red, will I see him bleed?

- Holy shit Pyro? Seems like something from another timeline. Maybe the same timeline as that one set pic we had;

Where the original Toad and Sabretooth from X-Men (2000) appear during a scene while shooting

- The bald character is interesting too. Rumours are its…

Cassandra Nova. Which would be cool, because she is a cool X-Men villain.

As for jokes, we’ll get Old Man Logan jokes, X-23, moaning about not being able to get Stewart nor McKellen, Disney money, Josh Brolin, X3, Wolverine Origins, Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix and New Mutant jabs, multiple Hawkeye jokes, not having budget to go see Loki (it happens offscreen)

And if Ryan is listening, please make a Apocalypse looks like Ivan Ooze joke. Its right there.
