Just finished Gunbrella. Really enjoyed the pixelart and some of the tunes, felt that they could have done more with the level design. There's some really cool moments in the latter half where you use the gunbrella as a hook that I'd have liked for the devs to expand upon but they probably (correctly) thought that the controls are a bit too janky for it. It feels like this one went a little bit under the radar which is a bit of a shame because it's a pretty fun ~5h romp that doesn't overstay its welcome. Also didn't expect a game with a concept as silly as this one to be this gruesome and at times bleak but it somehow worked.

Played REmake for the first time (first time playing RE in general, too), and had such a good time I went for a replay right away. One of my favourite games I played this year, and probably one of the best I ever played, period.

High Hell was sitting in my Steam library unfinished for ages because I couldn't beat the final boss. Today I went back, figured out what to do and finished it in minutes.

In any case, this is a super short (<2h) precision FPS made by Terri Vellmann (Disc Room, Sludge Life) with music by Doseone (Enter the Gungeon). You go through 20 levels and have to kill members of some kind of weird devil-themed mafia, steal art, burn money stashes or save monkeys to a dope soundtrack. Liked this a lot but as I said, it's super short if you're not planning to do high score runs.

26. Operation C

Adding another Contra game to the list! More of the same, but this time for the Game Boy. It reminded me of how much I enjoy game boy sound effects for explosions and such. This one also has a couple less levels than the first two I played, but it's not that big of a difference. Overall it feels a bit smaller scale, but it makes sense when you consider that it was made for a portable system.

Pokemon Stadium 2 (NSO)

Note: I'm counting completed as just beating Gym Leader Castle. That was basically the "story mode" for me. It should technically be beating the castle, beating every cup and unlocking the secret rival Right, but aint nobody got time for that. I think going a round at Gym Leader Castle is perfectly servicable to call a playthrough of the game

Anyways, This was a trip. Loved getting myself back into Pokemon's simpler days. As an N64 kid, I rented this a ton and had fun with the minigames and rental teams as we all did, but never got the opportunity to try the full experience with transfering your own team, seeing as how that's not an option here, I dont mind too much.
But man, the rental teams they give you are ROUGH. I wanted to go beat the entire Gym Leader Castle with one set team, but it was straight up impossible. The movesets are the worst possible ones that each Pokemon could be given, so you'll be up against the best of the best with only Mud Slaps and Tackles to work with. At best, you might get one good move for each Pokemon.

After the Team Rocket fight I relented and made up several diffrent combinations of rental teams and swapped them out per match, which made the game a lot more fun. That;s when it really clicked and I had loads of fun mixing and matching different combinations of teams trying to work out how to best counter whatever the gauntlet would throw my way next. It was almost kinda like a puzzle game at times.

Stadium 2 is a boneafied classic, improves upon the first in almost every way though I still find myself more attached to the first from a nostalgia perspective. I just wish they waited until they figured out a way to get RBY/GSC on Switch with Transfer Pak functionality. I do believe it's coming someday, I think both this and the first game would have hit much harder if we had that, but since I never experienced it that way (And I'm willing to bet lots of folks didnt either) this was a great challenging experience that was a trip down to simpler times. I'm glad to have both these titles on NSO so easily accessible to hop in any time I want, and I'm sure I will be jumping back many times to come!

105. Guardian Legend

A fascinating Zelda-like/shmup game that, despite being really fun, struggles to have as much content as it wants to.

On its surface, a Zelda-like with shmup dungeons is a very interesting idea, and it is a fun time: the game features a pretty sizable overworld with tons of weapons and some upgrades, but it plays its hand far too early.

The real strength of this game is ease of play. Despite being an NES game, it's got a really good map, and its translation is very solid. As far as I can tell there's no penalty for death, and enemies LOVE to drop health for you (even bosses often shoot destroyable projectiles that can drop items for you). It does feel like a game from further into the future with how it prioritizes fun over weird insurmountable challenge that most NES games thrived on.

However, even if it's quite short, I feel like it can't offer you enough, as it eventually becomes really formulaic. You go to a new area, find two corridors (double-digit and single-digit ones), where the latter has some sort of lock which you open thanks to the clue you receive somewhere nearby. Single-digit "corridors" are usually tougher but provide progression keys, while double-digits will usually contain power-ups.

The unfortunate part is that by mid-game you'll pretty much see everything the game has to offer. You'll get all the weapons (which, granted, you can upgrade by finding more copies) and will see most of the bosses. If it had 2-3 more zones I doubt I would've finished it, as by the end I was really getting bored: overworld became linear, started featuring enemies that were way too tanky, and even rewards from overworld mini-bosses would usually contain consumables.

Still, it's a fun game to play for a few evenings, but I wish it was more varied as it loses its charm quite quickly.

Mario Odysseus (replay): 11/10, GOAT. I’m too tired to give an in depth review, just watch some other review and pretend that’s what I said, okay?
Mario kart 8 deluxe booster course pass: Fun, but where’s booster and his tower? It really feels like false advertisement to not have him here, 9/10 nonetheless

I have always had a soft spot for the first two Turok games but only dabbled in the third one. Thanks to Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered I was finally able to finish the trilogy.

First on the quality of the remaster: As usual the new rendering options and UI are of the typically high Nightdive quality. Where this one differs from other ND remasters is that they also did some extensive work to update textures and models, much more than they did for Turok 1 and 2. After watching a comparison video, however, I'm a bit torn on the entire endeavour. Not to dismiss the effort here but it's this kind of half-step where they retained the look of the original but didn't go too far with it. To make a convoluted analogy: Imagine if back in the day there had been a PC version of Turok 3 and they used a pared down version of it to port to the N64. The remaster feels like that.

The game itself is decent but feels like a step back in several ways. Weapon and enemy variety is still as strong as ever but it also felt inconsistent in ways that the other two never did. There's some enemies that can tank three rockets to the face but one well-placed headshot with the pistol takes them out instantly. Picking one of two characters (I went with Danielle) and seeing the diverging paths is interesting and the level design still has some interesting wrinkles here and there. Overall, it's pretty unremarkable in this regard and it's also the most linear of the trilogy. 1 and 2 almost felt like proto-Metroid Prime games, this is more like Half-Life. My biggest issue with the game is how little of the Lost Lands there is in it. You spend the first half in our world before getting to the interesting stuff and consequently, there's also barely any dinosaurs in it. The first two games also had all of the multidimensional alien shenanigans but struck a much better balance.

Overall I had fun with it but I can't really recommend it over the others, especially not at the higher pricepoint.

58) Chants of Sennaar (PS5) - 10/10

Less games than my last update but two really good ones here. Got a few games lined up to play before the end of the year but happy with my progress so far!

49) Jusant (XS) - 6/10
Felt like a very conflicted game, like it wanted to be a wordless journey up a mountain but couldn't trust that the player would't get bored so added a ton of text logs on the way. The climbing mechanics themselves are pretty good but never really get explored in any meaningful way, with little to interaction between them.

50) Dropsy (Switch) - 9/10
Another wordless game but this definitely trusts you more. Dropsy themselves may seem like a terrifying main character from looks alone but there;s much more under the surface - they just want to help people, despite nearly everyone in the world holding something against them. It's truly a strange world that works thanks to the aesthetic and the characters you meet along the way

51) Saltsea Chronicles (PS5) - 9/10
A wonderful story of mystery and companionship as your crew seeks out one of their own while meeting others as you sail the Saltsea. The worldbuilding is excellent here, and you definitely get the most out of the game by taking the time to explore the customs and quirks of each crew member and island you visit.

Okay I kinda wanted to actually review odyssey so here ya‘ll go. Honestly one of the very few games I would personally describe as perfect, and how the game manages to be so creative while simultaneously being an incredible love letter to Mario as a franchise is amazing. The costumes go into some really wild and obscure places from Mario’s history that would get any Mario fan hyped. The new worlds and enemies all feel so different from the typical Mario enemy, but also fit in perfectly with the established cast. Odyssey really has set the standard for the switch era of Mario, very inventive while also having tons of fan service. Luigis mansion 3 and Mario wonder both bring their respective series back to what fans love while also adding to the formula and gameplay in new ways. The remakes of Mario RPG and TTYD both show how Nintendo is willing to experiment with remaking poorly selling (when i say poorly selling I mean in terms of Mario, not overall) games and not just stick to the more mainstream Mario games. And the ending where you play AS THE VILLAIN? 11/10 THIS GAME RULLLLLLES

18. Sonic the Hedgehog (PS5, via Sonic Origins) - I returned to this game thinking I might be softer on it in my old age, but I disliked this game even more this go around. Of the game’s six zones, I had strong distaste for 4 of them. That is 66.6% of the game! Yikes. At least Green Hill and the one sandwiched between Hell and Robot Hell are fun. On to Sonic CD…

19. Spider-Man 2 (PS5) - Like many others, my excitement for this game was mostly stuck in neutral until it came out. It was just more Spider-Man, right? Kind of! Despite being a largely similar experience, Insomniac layered on a bunch of small changes that made for a solid improvement over its predecessors. From a story perspective, I think the developers did a better job balancing two Spider-Men and a handful of big bads than could have been reasonably expected. Having the multiple protagonists made for some exhilarating set pieces, and the multiple antagonists kept engagement high throughout the entire narrative. I can’t wait for the third game to come out in 6 years on the PS6!

I'm counting MK8D as beaten again since the BCP is basically an entire new game. Got three stars in all of the cups, but gave up on beating all the time trials. I'm still playing now and then trying to get to 10.000 points in online.

Finished Mario Wonder with 100% completion just now, amazing game. I do wish it went even further into being original and breaking free from Mario's staples (especially SMB3, which seems to have turned into the series template for the entire New series plus 3D Land/World and now Wonder). Still, the game is a ton of fun, and as far as 2D Mario goes, it's probably the best one.

44. King's Field II (PS1) [8.5/10]

This is my first King's Field game, and it was fun! It's basically Dark Souls II if made in the Encarta Maze. This is definitely an acquired taste but once it gets going it has that same addicting "there's one more thing to do!" gameplay loop that From's best games do. One thing I really enjoyed was the character of Lyle, you really feel for the guy and want him to succeed. The best part of the game by far was the earth temple which I sadly got to really early.

45. Metal Gear Solid (PS1) [10/10]

This is my first time playing this game, but I can see why it's a classic. The strengths of the game are all in it's vibe and how well it translates a 2D series to 3D. I get the feeling this will be a fun one to replay because of all the hidden stuff and Easter eggs to find. Metal Gear Solid reminds us that in this modern world of phoney beloney science nerds and lying fat cats, only a true badass operator can finish the job. Congrats to the voice actors for all knocking it out of the park.

The big downside to this game is the obvious filler. Padding is one thing, but this is padding in a game where the gameplay is the weakest aspect. Worst of all it almost always comes at a moment where the game sets a ticking clock and then asks you to go mess around for a while which can kill the pacing.

I went into this game expecting it to be great and it lived up to it. Excellent writing and character design lead the way here, and the mystery was fun to solve. I knew that Shu Takumi was involved so I expected it to feel like the Ace Attorney series in some ways and it definitely does, but Ghost Trick stands on it's own as an outstanding title worthy of it's reputation.

Credits rolled on Mafia: Definitive Edition. From my understanding the remake is semi-faithful. Story and missions are mostly the same as in the original but actors have been replaced, some new scenes were added, missions were streamlined etc. For years I thought this was more of a GTA-clone but turns out that it's actually and extremely linear, chapter-based game and the open world is just window dressing for the most part. You do get a separate mode (Free Ride) to explore but that's not where the meat of the game is.

In any case, it's a pretty standard mobster tale of loyalty and betrayal that is elevated by great performances and a fantastic rendition of 1930s fake Chicago. By the end I felt myself actually caring about these characters despite them being some real pieces of shit. I especially liked how grounded and relatively small-stakes most of it felt before ramping up and escalating.

Mechanically, however, it wasn't great. The cars control like absolute ass the way you'd expect them to which can lead to some frustration in car chases. This is also surprisingly what you spend most of the time doing: Either chasing cars or being chased by cars. You also get shootouts but they feel comparatively few and far between and extremely outdated. Pick a good place for cover, pop up at the right moment and that's it. This part of the game probably deserved some more attention, this way it feels like one of those third-person shooters that came out after Gears of War and Uncharted that were doing everything worse.

I finished it in like 8h and thought it was fine but can really only recommend it if you get it on the cheap and care more about story and atmosphere than gameplay.

Just finished Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It's amazing how the teenage mind works and just sort of tunes out certain things about games it experienced. The somewhat creepy "romance", the incessant enemy waves, the weird wall-jump... all of these I forgot about it and they kinda drag the entire thing down a bit. And yet it's still ends up being an engaging and charming (in a funny early aughts way) game with an interesting setting and some neat level design. I can already see how they will update it for the remake if that ever comes out but the game still holds up for the most part. It's a shame that Ubisoft doesn't make these types of games anymore.

  49. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Yeah I played it for the first time recently and those things stuck out. I only got a few hours in because of a bug where the first boss wouldn't let me kill him. The fact that the protagonist constantly talks is a bit annoying and the combat is bad. But credit where credit is due, the platforming might be clunky but it not being very automated is pretty interesting, you actually have to try to wall jump correctly. It did make me sad Ubisoft doesn't make more games like that anymore, along with Splinter Cell which has aged very well. Too bad the remake of Prince of Persia has gotten off to a bad start.

Oh that sucks. I ran into a few bugs like that with regular enemies but luckily nothing that prevented progression.

The OG Splinter Cell trilogy is also one of those classic Ubi series that I wanna go back to one day. Just like with PoP I only ever finished the first one.

We need both Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell to return. Well, I guess PoP is getting a new action platformer at least.

  • Jack box party pack: Fun to play with my friends, but the mini games tend to get old after around 5-6 matches. 6/10 usually, 7/10 on good days
  • Spider guy: Spider guy is sososososososososososososososososososososo good. The story is so good, the gameplay is so good, Norman “not green goblin” Osborn not being green goblin was awesome twist on the typical Norman Osborn role, Mr Octopus is a great villain, and I‘m so happy I decided to play this game
  • Other spider guy: Other spider guy, while not as interesting as the first game, maintains the amazing gameplay its predecessor had and adds the amazing spider guy app. The main disappointment here is the story, which felt emotional in spider guy and had an amazing villain in Mr Octopus, but falls flat in this game with a far shorter story with a weaker villain in Tinkerbell. Hope other spider guy has a cooler story in spider guy 2, but this game is still an 8/10 with the mediocre story

I would say that "other spider guy" has a better story in 2 but still largely plays second fiddle to "spider guy".

But I have reason to believe it will be different next time!

oh yeah for sure, spider guy 2 is 100% a spider guy story and other spider guy is just along for the ride. but i liked other spider guy’s story in spider guy 2 a lot more than his story in other spider guy.

Just incredible. Hard to believe it was made as a side project sort of thing in six months. Combat is fantastic, music is great, side content is fun (substories were obviously a bit rushed, but I loved them nonetheless). I really hope they bang out these sort of smaller side games going forward too. Really fun way to get some RGG appetiser in while waiting for the main in January. Even saying that though - there's plenty to do here and I'd put it in my upper echelon of RGG games despite the shorter runtime. Best ending in the franchise so far bar none too.

  28. Persona 4 Golden (PS5) - 50 hours - 9/10
Shows its age a bit in some parts (I kept comparing to 5R so that's on me lol). But it is a fantastic game with a fun battle system, charming cast (bar Teddie..) that feels like an organic group of friends, great setting (felt so nostalgic since I spent years living in a similar-size town in Japan) and a really interesting story.

Currently have these ongoing:
  • Super Mario Wonder (stuck in World 3, waiting for the time to keep going with my wife but that might not happen lol. We loved the first world but it hasn't really hooked us..)
  • Super Mario RPG (Not really feeling it.. An hour in and struggling to continue)
  • Yakuza 5 (second playthrough - near the end of Kiryu's section and really taking my time at the mo. I didn't interact with the taxi missions last time so I'm enjoying those, ridiculous rubberbanding aside).
  • Neo: TWEWY - I've bounced off it hard twice now but we'll see how this goes.

Finished Cocoon while I was waiting for the Game Awards to start.

I've said it in the General Discussion thread already but this is like a Zelda game made by aliens in the best way. Zero dialogue, some truly outlandish visuals and mindbending puzzles. I don't wanna give away too much but in the last hour I was constantly in awe at how effortless everything felt. Fantastic game.

I am hesitantly putting A Highland Song on my list. I got to the credits but it's obvious I didn't get the true ending and plan to go back to try but not sure when I will get back to it.

46. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PS2) [7.5/10]

I really tried to like this, but after finishing it for the first time the best thing I can say of it is it's a worse remix of Metal Gear Solid that really showed off what the Playstation 2 hardware was capable of. I think the stereotype for this game is that people are mad that you don't play as Snake for most of the game but I had the opposite reaction because right away the voice acting and visual direction of the tutorial felt very flat and boring to me. I was excited once it was over for what felt like a proper Metal Gear mission to get going. I'm gonna chalk this game up to a "you had to be there" situation because I'm sure the visuals and first person aiming stuff was mind blowing in 2001, but now of days it has aged worse visually than Metal Gear Solid on PS1. Some parts early on really remind me of Metroid Prime 3 where you can tell sequences are being designed around new hardware gimmicks first and foremost but nothing is too egregious.

My main complaint with the previous game was the pacing. That game's issue was back tracking at in-opportune times. I didn't like that, but I'd take that over whatever the hell was happening with Otacon and his sister and to a lesser extent the Mad Bomber stuff.

The biggest issue with this game is the story. The game was clearly rushed, and most of the story takes place through codec conversations, even when between two people alone in a room. I'm gonna again be generous and assume that it was different in 2001, but this is not only insanely boring but also looks much worse visually than the codec conversations in the Playstation 1 game due to swapping out stylish 2D art for ugly 3D models. I will be generous and say that certain aspects of the finale are disjointed most likely because 9/11 happened two months before release day and the game takes place near Manhattan. The big twist ends up being maybe the stupidest thing I've ever seen in the game, with the takeaway being that the main antagonists only know how to waste everyone's time and money for an epic prank on Lin Manuel Miranda with no other payoff.

A convoluted story can be excused with strong characters, but sadly Raiden is a big huge loser who's impossible to root for. You can see what they're going for early on-- "What if Solid Snake was a gamer?"-- but the premise never grows beyond that. Instead the entire last act is filled with those visually uninteresting very long (VERY long) codec conversations where our main character goes through melodrama about his past that we were never given any reason to care about and in fact are given numerous reasons not to care about as it is happening. The game then robs our player character of any sense of accomplishment by revealing the epic prank before he sits and takes a 20-minute dressing down from a robot. He then does what the robot tells him to do anyway and defeats an elderly polisci nerd who was just revealed to be an even bigger fool. What should be a triumphant moment is instead a loser realizing he's not cut out for being the player character in a video game with no redemption, and to the game's credit it ends with Raiden saying he wants to join Snake and Snake rightfully saying "no". Snake also looks really weird in this so he doesn't feel as badass as he should despite always being in control of the situation.

All in all this was an interesting experience and a good stealth action game, but it was a bad Metal Gear game. I'm excited to move onto Snake Eater which I expect will be much better.

Finished my replay of Super Mario 64 for my birthday and I just beat Batman Arkham asylum for the switch. If all goes well, my next game should be sonic colors.

Batman was a lot fun, combat is still some of the best I’ve seen.

Replay #12: Sonic Mania (Nintendo Switch)

After Sonic Superstars left a mixed impression on me, I went back to Mania to see how it felt. And yeah, it's still a really strong game. Admittedly a bit of a "Best of" pack more than always an original game, and a few of the bosses can overstay their welcome (though not to the degree of Superstars), but it's a damn fine one packed with lots of nice flourishes and references. Something as simple as clearing an Act has lots of pizazz - animations, UI, and music teaming up for a stylish experience, something Superstars very much lacks. Sonic 3K is probably the better game on an objective level, but Mania feels like the 2D Sonic for me, ya know?

Ah, I love Sons of Liberty! Have you ever read the famous essay that recontextualizes the story? I would have to do some digging but it really changed my outlook on the game.

Hard agree about everything involving EE though. Otacon is a disaster of a human and everything surrounding him kind of stinks starting with this game.

If you send it to me I'll read it. At this point I don't want to see Raiden or Solidus again. I'm hoping some stuff is better in retrospect after 3 and 4, like the Liquid stuff.

Feels nice when you enter that smooth flow.

Is there even a true ending? I thought it just has branching story paths.

sigh <adds another game to the pile>
Well the game kept telling me about the time limit and I got there like 4 days late. Is it not possible to get there in time?

Doing some late year clean-up which has been pretty good for managing my backlog.

Spark the Electric Jester 3 made me see the light when it comes to 3D Sonic... somewhat. Not the kind of platforming that I'm looking for and a lot of it is just holding the stick up but it was still largely enjoyable. Had some great music and cool setpieces and if you really wanted to you could spend a lot of time replaying the levels and trying to find all the coins. There a surprisingly big emphasis on combat in certain parts but it never really clicked for me and after a while I turned it to easy. They really had me fucked up with the final level though: It's about half an hour long. Also, you can tell that this was made by Sonic fans for Sonic fans because there's a seemingly off the wall story that I didn't really care to follow. It wasn't really necessary to play the game.

The other game I finished because I only had like an hour left to play was Jack Move. It's a super short turn-based RPG set in futuristic world where seemingly everyone is a hacker so there's a lot of tech gibberish being thrown around. Absolutely love how full of character the spirtework is, probably my favourite thing about it. Music was fitting but I didn't find it that memorable. The central story about dgitializing the human consciousness and the main character Noa trying to reconnect with her father was endearing, sadly the ending fell a bit flat for me. It was funny to play this when I just started the Super Mario RPG remake since they both share similar strengths and weaknesses: Both games have little to no fat and a very crisp pace but they and up being a little bit too easy. But if you're a fan of Zeboyd games like Cthulhu Saves The World and Cosmic Star Heroine and you're looking for an RPG that can be beaten in less than 10h, this is the one for you.

Godzilla minus one (Game Boy Advance player): I love Godzilla so much, and this is one of his best films. The themes in this one are so strong, and even the typically boring human chard trap are amazing. That’s not to say our boy The Big G isn‘t amazing, in fact this movie uses Godzilla almost a perfect amount, never overusing him but also giving us enough of him for the movie to still feel like a Godzilla movie. And the atomic breath scene, I mean oh my goodness. On the Godzilla movie (for GBA player) scale this movie is my personally second favorite, only losing out to the goat final wars. 9/10, really goes to show just how dynamic Godzilla is that he can be in movies completely different in tone/ messages while always maintaining a consistent style throughout

Wow. This has gone straight into my Games of the Year. Just a superbly elegant, atmospheric and brain-teasing experience that could only be achieved through the medium of gaming. I didn't quite like some of the timed challenges towards the end (timed target shooting), and occasionally I felt that the failure penalty for boss fights also felt a little out of keeping with what is a mind-bending and meditative experience, but I've been utterly absorbed in this from start to finish. Just stunning. I played it through game pass, but might buy it to keep it and return to it in the future.

I yearn to be a being transporting orbs and in turn being transported by the orbs.

Done with the Switch remake of Super Mario RPG. I was never a huge fan of the original, or rather I preferred PM1 and Superstar Saga, but this was nice to go back to. It's a very nice remake that elevates the nice parts and introduces several QoL features that make it feel like a modern game without losing its character. Framerate drops in busy towns aside I also really like the new graphics that hearken back to the original's early 3D look.

My two main issues with the original were always that the pacing is a bit too fast and that it's too easy. The first can't really be helped, it's a comparatively lean game with very little downtime and it'd have made little sense to pad it out. The game has a lot of cool moments that are sadly given very little time to breathe because there's always another thing waiting to happen around the corner. It took me around 10h to finish with some side content and without really rushing.

What's a bit of a bummer is that the remake feels even easier than the OG due to the new mechanics and in typical Nintendo fashion they added a "Breezy" mode. Of course, it's a Mario RPG, but I never really felt I was in trouble even when I missed several action commands in a row. If they ever decide to revisit this subseries, these are the main things I hope they address.

24. Super Mario RPG

I hadn't played this since probably high school, but I enjoyed this remake. It's still really easy, but I liked the added boss rematches in the post game, one of which did actually give me a game over due to a one hit kill move I wasn't expecting. I liked that they kept the game basically intact, and I liked the look of it. Soundtrack was great as well, they did a nice job updating it.

25. Vampire Survivors

I picked this up on a recommendation of a friend and really enjoyed it. It's a nice game to just kind of tune out and play. When you get everything upgraded and are just mowing down enemies, it's really satisfying.

26. Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe

I'm still playing some of the post game modes, but finished the main game. It was okay overall. I hadn't played this previously on Wii, but am familiar with the basic loop from Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot, both of which I think I liked more. I'm not too far into the Magolor mode, but I like the upgrading aspect to it.

27. This Way Madness Lies

I pretty much have enjoyed all of Zeboyd Games' output, and this was no exception. This is a short (7ish hour) RPG, but I really enjoy these short length adventures. It's an odd mix of Shakespeare and Sailor Moon, with a similar battle system to Cosmic Star Heroine/Cthulhu Saves Christmas. The characters are in a Shakespeare drama club and are also magical and fight monsters. The script had a decent amount of humor, which I appreciated.
