That’s what I was thinking. Why would they be commenting on the launch of Nintendo’s product and not their own? I figure they meant they’ll have it out on Nintendo hardware close to the launch of the game on other platforms.Could it also mean "near (game's) release"? As in, Switch 2 version will be delayed a bit compared to other systems?
Shock. I’m not an “anti-media” guy by almost all measurements, but I did give up on the larger VG media outlets during the announcement period for Wii U.In the Mk1 thread here on fami the matter has been discussed, it turns out that people and some media are distributing false or erroneous information about the game on Switch just to encourage the console war or clicks.
Bad looking games won’t stop existing just because the hardware is more powerful.OK, hear me out.
I know this is weird, and I don't expect anyone to agree, but one thing I'm genuinely going to miss with the Switch 2 are the really bad looking versions of other games. Or, to put things in a more positive light, the 'miracle ports.' Of course I don't want them to still be around, because I'm not the 'main audience' for them (that being people who have to/choose to play almost exclusively on Switch), but I'll still miss them a bit.
If a game is incredibly cheap (i.e. <£5 on a 90% discount) I sometimes buy it just to see how bad a game that otherwise looks decent on other consoles can look. To see the kinds of compromises and reductions needed to fit games that clearly weren't built for the Switch, onto the Switch. Good example being Mortal Shell (which was recently £2.49) and how it just looks like the Switch is barely even able to play it, yet it's still there, running on a handheld from 2017. It's fascinating to see these games exist in a context almost completely outside of the one they were intended to be seen in; a 'retro' factor that you don't get with more traditional ports. Like watching new media on a CRT TV, or listening to music on vinyl. It's a worse experience, but there's a novelty to it nonetheless.
With the Switch 2's improved power, the general 'diminishing returns' of modern graphics, and notable backlashes towards games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Mortal Kombat 1, it's unlikely that we'll get those versions of games anymore. They'll just be somewhat less good-looking, but still perfectly viable, versions of what we get on other platforms. At worst they might look like a lower-end PS4 game, but even those still look good overall, and with DLSS they won't even need to run at terrible resolutions either.
It'll be kind of like how the Switch killed separate handheld versions of games, but to a lesser extent of course. Just another symptom of how handhelds are slowly becoming more like 'portable versions of home consoles' than their own separate entities.
I addressed this in the post; DLSS and the like will inherently make it so that they won't have to go to the depths of resolutions, wacky AA solutions and stripped down assets that many ports on Switch have to go to. They'll be bad-looking versions, but the gulf of difference will likely be significantly lower.I mean, development on PS5 / Series X / PC isn't going to stop when ReDraketed launches.
You're going to get those "miracle" ports, though thanks to tools like DLSS they might not look and run as bad as some of those miracle Switch ports. ^^
Read the post again. It isn't just about bad-looking games, but about really bad-looking versions of games. As in, versions of games that are drastically stripped down compared to the 'intended' experience on other platforms, not just bad-looking compared to their peers. If it were just about the latter then I wouldn't have made the post lol. I'm not stupid.Bad looking games won’t stop existing just because the hardware is more powerful.
You can buy Starfield right now and compare it to other games to get the same retro effects.

Ah sorry no idea - sorry thought you were asking about node and I thought of that post. Haven't seen one from Thraktor about die size.I don't see the die size in that post. I forgot where he did mention it.
Can’t wait for next-gen, stripped down FFVII Rebirth that’ll look like FFVII.
At that point, just pull a FFXV and do a proper, lesser version like FF15 Mobile
What side are you betting?I'm all in if you are.
Same. I’m not anti-media, either, and being critical is fine and well, however, what I can’t stand is click farming, misinformation, the obsession with being “first”, and absence of both journalistic integrity and the pursuit of the truth. Been saying this for YEARS and have been called a conspiracy theorist for it, but you can actually see the console at least a dozen times, and it was on display in the conference room for along periods. Furthermore, Reggie clearly said the “controller FOR our new console”. No mention of the word “add-on”, but the way the gaming press deceived the community was one of the unspoken scandals in this industry. I’m dyspraxic. I need time to thought process. But I understood immediately what I saw - Wii U was actually the first Nintendo home console I was able to own since the SNES. I became incredibly disillusioned with E3, too, when it had been a boyhood dream to attend it one day. The gaming press needed a Clearing Of The Temple moment, because a lot of heads should’ve rolled that day. Industry politics is very much a thing, and it’s a lot more rife than people care to believe - The court revelations from the Activision acquisition dispute prove this beyond all doubt. They’re the reason we have Directs, and why they’re right never to do a live conference on stage again, why they’ll keep their presence to a minimum at the Keighley events, for example - I would feel disillusioned, too, and not have the bandwidth to surround myself with such people. Lots of games sites lost my clicks at the time, and I’m a lot more cautious about where they go. I don’t even follow industry people on social media, except the official Nintendo site, Sega, and the former editor of Mean Machines (a magazine from my childhood years). That also explains why I don’t believe most rumours, only things that can be traced back to an official source/the horse’s mouth/actual partners. That’s what I was thinking. Why would they be commenting on the launch of Nintendo’s product and not their own? I figure they meant they’ll have it out on Nintendo hardware close to the launch of the game on other platforms.
But like Bonejack pointed out, it’s another vague statement for us all to interpret in whatever way we see fit.
Shock. I’m not an “anti-media” guy by almost all measurements, but I did give up on the larger VG media outlets during the announcement period for Wii U.
I still believe (and will never change my mind) that the games media helped sink that console for the start. The Wii had fallen out of favor for a number of reasons, so it was a cool time to be “doomy” toward Nintendo. They all watched the announcement of the new Nintendo console, they all knew it was a new console, they had interviews with executives, fact sheets, press releases, and Nintendo reps at their disposal, and yet so many of them pretended to not understand that it was new console. It’s their job to deliver accurate information to their audiences, but instead they decided to jump on the popular emerging narrative that was driving clicks. These were video game industry enthusiasts, many who had been a covering video game news for years. There wasn’t a single Nintendo fan who watched that showcase and didn’t know Nintendo was showing off a new console, but we’re suppose to believe that the people who cover this stuff for a living had no idea? Bull.
I don’t think the Wii U underachieved for that reason alone, but it felt like it instantly blunted any marketing momentum they were trying to build with the announcement and they were never able to recover.
True, but I just can't see them looking as bad as, say, The Witcher 3 or The Outer Worlds did. Those kinds of games had to make fundamental 'breaks' with their original version's art-style to get them working on the platform, often going lower than even the lowest possible PC settings.if switch 2 is a big success we'll absolutely get a few next-gen only downports that are just baffling
God I hope so. But I expect next gen only ports to be pretty alright. Given what we know, they won't be "down ports", just ports.if switch 2 is a big success we'll absolutely get a few next-gen only downports that are just baffling
H1, of course! What side are you betting?
Those are just games choosing a style. What has been killed is "Street Fighter II (Game Boy)" being completely distinct from "Street Fighter II (SNES)", itself being very different than "Street Fighter II (ARC)". Or "GoldenEye: Rogue Agent (DS)" being a different game than "GoldenEye: Rogue Agent (GCN)". We don't even see "Ghostbusters (PS2, Wii)" being a very different low-spec version from "Ghostbusters (PS360)" anymore. I think this is a positive development, though. Also, the switch did not kill handheld version of games. Plenty of indies have the handheld look. Even Square pumped many ”handheld” rpgs (Octopath, Triangle Strategy, Bravely Default, I Am Setsuna, etc). Nintendo has Link’s Awakening, Pokémon Let’s Go, Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remakes. Link‘s Awakening is very much not BOTW. It still has the same handheld feel.
I think that'd be a little too short for a new system. If it's a May release, I like @ReddDreadtheLead's idea of a January reveal.Reveal in March for Release in May as Shuntaro Furukawa said, the time of announcement and launch will be very short.
OH
MY
GOD!
I don't think PS5 and XSX will have any game that's way out of reach of Switch 2 to have heavily compromised versions of it. I mean, we still haven't had anything that struggles on Steam deck badly, even Starfield runs pretty comparable (it occupies all of my SD card, though). And Switch successor will have DLSS magic to have even more well optimized versions of games than Steam Deck.Read the post again. Perfect! I'm betting for H2 anyway.H1, of course!
Like watching new media on a CRT TV, or listening to music on vinyl. It's a worse experience, but there's a novelty to it nonetheless.
Perfect! I'm betting for H2 anyway.
So, here are the terms:
If the next Nintendo console (the followup to the Nintendo Switch, the console we're referring to in this thread as the "Switch 2") is released in H1, which ends June 30th, 2024, then you win the bet.
If said console releases in H2, which starts July 1, 2024, then I win the bet.

Yeah; the Switch has tons of games that are more 'portable-oriented', but very few releases that were just a different version entirely of a game found on more powerful platforms. All I can really think of are the FIFA games, and Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition, and the latter of those was just a port of a pre-existing mobile game. The days of getting completely-separate, yet simultaneous, portable versions of big releases are long over. Those are just games choosing a style. What has been killed is "Street Fighter II (Game Boy)" being completely distinct from "Street Fighter II (SNES)", itself being very different than "Street Fighter II (ARC)". Agreed, though I wouldn't say 'any' simply because we never know what might go down in the future.I don't think PS5 and XSX will have any game that's way out of reach of Switch 2 to have heavily compromised versions of it. lol sorry for the offense. I do have a record collection and a decent turntable, if it makes things better.
Is there a reward for those who wins?Anybody else want to jump in on this?
I guess the reward is you get to keep using your avatar lolIs there a reward for those who wins?
I only see a risk

The man behind the slaughter.bellydrum is OBSESSED with that purple guy
PS4 games still look incredible to me, people are crazy lol.
Are they just..... allowed to do that?????Yeah can reaffirm this.
DANGEN reached me asking to remove the Switch mention on my blog post as they plan to release the game EXIT VEIL on modern Nintendo hardware near release (this is a quote from their own words btw)
Tbh, I prefer people thinking it'll be a "gen 8" level console. Just so the reveal and when we see the first game running on it will blow people‘s minds. It is so vastly more advanced.
The presentation is going to so delicious. This is undoubtedly the biggest graphical leap for Nintendo.
Are they just..... allowed to do that?????
He just tweeted it out...Are they just..... allowed to do that?????
Oh hey, I've got 1111 Famicoins! Kinda wish we could bet with these, but oh well.
I know I can't be certain, but I'm 100% convinced that they will be.I hope the NSO Apps will be available asap on the Switch 2
Is this new? This is my first time hearing about this. Neat! You can bet them! You have the ability to gift Famicoins via the Trade system
Yes, but not remotely close to the joycons drift case.
And you know exactly why Nintendo fixed them for free. Because of the massive joycons drift backlash and lawsuit in the US. Otherwise they'd have treated you just the same as Sony, which in fact what happened to me because I don't live in the US. They didn't even bother acknowledging the drift after I sent it to them and made me pay for shipping and other costs. Asshats.
In the end I fixed it myself using the cardboard fix. But even this didn't last long.
