StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (New Staff Post, Please read)

I might be dumb and all that? If Nintendo did show Switch 2 dev kits to press at Gamescom... Wouldn't that shit leak fast?
Most people will not break an NDA, and those that will will not do so all that quickly since it will be easier to identify where their info came from.

The key word was press media. That was the thing for me. It didn’t feel real, but I wanted to believe because I want to see the system sooner lol.

Showing devs is what I had though was real before Jez’s tweet.

Clearly Nintendo just showed off the most visually stunning vertical slice of Metroid Prime 4. It looked so good that everyone in the room just assumed it was for a next generation system.
« By the way, this footage wasn’t running on a Nintendo Switch »
- Game running on Nintendo Switch in real time.

On the controller would be very welcome. Would this do much to kill or harm the third party controller market tho? I suppose it would depend on how many games use it.
...Nintendo Switch already has a camera on the controller. Few games use it. Some games won't function without it.

Personally I'd just expect "more" of what we have now. More "Motion Cameras".

I think my dream would be:

Two on each Joy-Con, one on top, one on bottom, both in colour with an IR emitter. Tracks the room around you to help with spacial positioning. No sensor bar, no problem, it identifies the TV, or a picture on the wall, locks on and bam, super stable Gyro. Modern smartphone cameras are full colour but can also see in IR, so it could offer backwards compatibility with the IR Motion Camera's functions, use an IR emitter to see in the dark. Clip it on to a new accessory, and it becomes a remote control vehicle with a camera!

Personally I very much DON'T expect AR. That's the domain of mobile, and even Nintendo knows that by now, but there's a LOT of gameplay possibilities in motion detecting full colour cameras. Just Dance on NG Switch? Just put your Joy-Con 2.0 down where its camera can see you and DANCE! Scan QR Codes, use the IR emitter and a second console to transmit user data, or play multiplayer even in airplane mode. Joy-Con 2.0 Marco Polo! One blasts its IR as bright as it can, the other vibrates stronger the more it can detect the other Joy-Con 2.0!

Slap the tablet in a headset and wave your arms around, welcome to the cheapest possible version of premium grade VR!

Where's the leeks?

It's martinet in this game?
Nintendo already confirmed Charles Martinet dont voice Mario/Luigi on Super Mario Bros Wonder
Nintendo has showed Switch sucessor to the press? this seen to suspecious, why would Nintendo show it next hardware to the press, developers i can understand they doing this?, Nintendo gain nothing by showing for example Switch sucessor to IGN, VGC

I‘m honestly glad that we finally found our way to the right cage after standing for years in front of a massive brick wall thinking it is a door opening anytime.
It was always gonna open, it just took us a while to figure out the elvish word for frieNDA

I wonder if Nintendo can improve the Joy-con 2 controllers enough that they render the Pro-controller concept (mostly) obsolete?

I really enjoy idea of the Joy-con grip, but the grip size, the size of the analog sticks and buttons, and lack of a proper d-pad ensured the Pro controller had a market. For instance I couldn’t play Smash or Splatoon 2/3 effectively on it. I mostly used the grip close to launch before I decided to afford a Pro controller.

They can still sell Pro controllers so long as they feel a good deal more premium than the new Joy-con 2 grip setup, but having it not feel as mandatory to have them would be nice.

So Todd Howard and Phil Spencer were just at Gamescom to see Switch 2? That's much more neat as pleasing "World Premiere" Keighley.

Watched yesterday the DF Weekly and for me it sounded like they were also hinting that Switch 2 was No 1 rumor on Gamescom and the updates are imminent. Could be of course also just my Nintendo-tinted glasses, but what else would be a candidate for big rumors with a potential imminent reveal?
well due to the deal Microsoft did with Nintendo, they need to know how the Switch sucessor is, to prepare a Call of Duty for example to the console launch or subsequents years.

if any of the media dares to leak Switch sucessor details, Nintendo will blacklist them, just like they did with Kotaku, for incentiving emulators on Metroid Dread release

Uh, no, they don't do that. Unless that outlet has an active NDA with them, but otherwise leaks are always fair game. Eurogamer leaked the entire switch and faced no blowback at all.

The problem is that leakers are often anonymous by choice, even when someone does have insider friends.

Not a good look on Jez.

Never expected anything from Gamescom of all things. lol

That Jez Tweet was very "bruh" moment today lol
Wathever, nothing that I know was shown to PRESS in Germany... this is very incorrect

Also for those surprised, some pages ago I have hinted:
Dunno Nate's birds
But I also have mines and yes, things happening for Software (NA, EU, JP)
And Hardware (??)

Guess that's enough for now
The incoming weeks looks interesting Nintendo-wise

Microsoft doesn't own Activision yet. Microsoft has to obtain the approval of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in the UK before Microsoft can acquire Activision, and by extension, work with Nintendo with respect to Call of Duty.

Nintendo's probably talking with Activision directly right now if Nintendo wants Call of Duty on Nintendo's new hardware.

Don’t you think the hardware is just a Mario Wonder OLED model? Or you mean behind the scenes people are hearing or seeing the next gen system?

Nobody blacklisted Eurogamer and they literally drew a picture of the switch. If Nintendo cared so much why didn’t they go after them?
That's....... actually a good question. I guess if they went after them at that point, it would have been a confirmation of the Switch's existence. Nintendo doesn't seem to step in unless it's legitimate misinformation, like with the Mochizuki incident two years ago.

Considering Gamescom is an european show I imagine some EU publishers that may have a sneak peek of Switch NG were Ubisoft, CD Proyekt and/or Embracer Group.

Next month they will likely show it to japanese publishers at TGS, so we may get a tidbit from a japanese outlet (hopefully)

I expect a major redesign with the sole exception of size. They want to keep it portable and increase the screen size. Something has to give. I'd say extremely squared off design with a metal finish, and round, grippy Joy-Con. Visually distinct but clearly the same "family".

Wii to Wii U went from angular to rounded, not unreasonable to think Switch to NG Switch goes from rounded to angular.

Maybe a little wider than OLED Model to make room for Joy-Con Rail.
It's so hard to me to imagine what a Switch 2 could look like. The OLED basically has the perfect form factor imo. Thin bezels, premium feeling body... the only part they could showcase big changes are joycons and dock. And they might want joycons to be BC.

with the way Kotick was talking, ABK probably has kits already.

there are handheld pcs they could take cues from, like Aya Neo series and whatnot

Seeing graphics like this makes me so warm and fuzzy inside. It reminds me of a simpler time. Being a grown-up, and facing the harsh realities of life is so draining. It really does make you appreciate things as simple as this gif. Maybe we don’t need very powerful hardware, just awesome games with amazing animation like this. A lot of games released nowadays are soulless and boring, I’m tired of the Starfield’s and Cybepunk’s of the world. Give me whimsy, give me colour, give me fun, give me Nintendo. They are the greatest video game/console makers ever and I trust that they’ve cooked up something exceptional.

fixing the Joy-Con drift for Nintendo Switch sucessor controller, should be one of Nintendo top priority

Is it really though? Or did Nintendo give a super corporate statement that didn't really confirm or deny the thing Mochizuki share?
That statement came out after Mochi's article was gaining a lot of traction and was referring to a more powerful hardware revision, rather than a new system, so I'd argue that it was.

I don’t disagree, but fixing drift is a separate thing entirely. They could probably do so and change nothing about the ergonomics with or without joy-con grip.

I’m specifically asking for improvements so that the out of the box joy-con 2 + grip experience isn’t so far removed from the current Pro controller experience. I think the concept is really solid and fun actually, but late generation I rarely found myself removing the joycons from the system.

I see no reason to show the press anything this early. Devs make far more sense to me.
Agreed. Nintendo showing something to the press would likely mean the public detailed reveal would be very soon. That to me would then suggest the console would likely be releasing this fiscal year unless Nintendo was going to have a quite long pre-launch marketing cycle. Developers are the ones who have to know about the system earlier, since development of a major game in 2023 isn't something you can complete in a day. To me, the big news of Jez's tweet would have been that Switch 2 is about to be properly unveiled, similar to how press appear to have recently gotten hands-on time with Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Nintendo is now going to publicly share more info on the game.

All of that said, if Nintendo did talk to developers, the press may get and publish info in the coming weeks anyway. We'll see.
