StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (New Staff Post, Please read)

A guy with an Associate's degree is heading up a major joint venture between Nintendo and Epic? And they are sitting in North Kingstown, RI? At a company with no public address? With no prior credits to their name.
Yeah I came to the same conclusion. You can put whatever you want in your LinkedIn profile, these guys are clearly trolling.

He lists himself as 'Founder' of Epic Games, ffs.
So this guy doesn't run esports Toornaments????

Feels like a lowkey diss at RI lol.

But yeah to many red flags on those pages.

hmm i think we're aware of someone else who lives in RI

My mistake. It has an address. It's a trailer on Post Road. Epic & Nintendo really not investing much in a building for that stuff. Or security, for that matter.
There's also a weird music related Twitter account with that company name, clearly Nintendo is branching out into indie music

Damn, what happened at Rhode Island?

Also, fake. Purely because Richie's Charmander is involved. I hope someone got the reference.

It gets better. The individual in question has a secondary LinkedIn.

"IBM Certified Data Engineer - Big Data
Unreal Engine User Group
Issued Jul 2020"

They got this certification a full month after becoming head engineer at Nintendo.

The studio also sells hats and t-shirts on eBay. Nintendo's full e-commerce initiative has begun!

Does anyone here have access to TechInsights’ market analyses? There are reports from China claiming that the latest TechInsights console market analysis “estimates” that the Switch NG will be launched in “March or April next year”. Here is one of the reports. My translation of relevant section (emphases mine):

“In 2022, Nintendo led the console hardware market with a 40% share, albeit down from 45% in 2021. […] Nintendo was able to maintain its lead due to the tremendous success of Switch OLED (launched in October 2021) between Q4 2021 and Q1 2023, with 15 million units shipped worldwide. Meanwhile, Nintendo’s global market share will drop sharply to 28% this year, ceding the number one position to Sony. The trend will reverse in 2024, with the next-generation Switch 2 expected to be launched in March or April next year. TechInsights estimates that the release of the new model will boost Nintendo’s global market share back up to nearly 40 percent. However, that won’t be enough to dethrone Sony from the number one position.”

Note that the “market share” mentioned above refers to the number of units shipped. TechInsights reports usually are fairly reliable, however it isn’t clear from the regurgitated articles from China whether the Switch NG launch window is strictly their estimation or based on any industry information.
I personally would love this if Nintendo supported the NG Switch themselves all the way until the fall where third parties would start to come in, which would be why they think the device is launching later that year

Does this imply that using Unreal Engine makes one a founder of Epic Games? Cause if so, I'll take it!

Feel like it would be a major backfire to Nintendo's better third party support if they were essentially locked out of the first half year of launch.

Half convinced that one of those LinkedIn accounts is actually Zippo himself
I have wanted to craft a fake LinkedIn, claim to work at a major company, working on a new IP or established IP for unannounced hardware. Just to see how far it could spread without verification.

"So what ip did you work on?"
"Sorry I signed an NDA."

he just saw Pikimin 4 runing on Unreal Engine 4 ,and made a huge conspirancy theory of Nintendo will do a partneship with Epic games, and severals major franchise for Nintendo will use this engine, Pikimin 4 we can understand since was co-developed by Eighting, that have experience in this engine, but next 3D Mario with Unreal Engine 4?Zippo must be smoking to even trough of next 3D Mario using this engine

it's not impossible, but it's not something that can be predicted. if it was true, that doesn't make them out to be some kind of soothsayer. they just got lucky

the only reason i could imagine for next 3D Mario to use Unreal Engine 4, is because the interal engine EPD 8 is using for the game, is unable to bring forth the ideas they trough for the game, is Nintendo internal engine can fully realize what they want for the game, theres no need to change to UE4.

septembre Nintendo Direct predictions?
I would be shocked. Way too early. Nate normally uploads the Direct predictions once the Direct is announced (typically the same Tuesday or Wednesday), so there'd be no reason to drop those this far out.

This talk is not only very interesting to understand PT, but it shows very interesting tech we might see in Drake.

I already made a small post about what I jokingly called DLSS 4, with the feedback loop between the denoiser and the Ray tracer, which could optimize where samples are sent; but what's more interesting is the part about decoupling of RT rendering and frame presentation (at around 1 hour 25 in the video). It's particularly interesting because while this would be very hard on PC, closed hardware like Drake could make it a reality.

The idea is that the RT renderer constantly updates the RT scene, and when a frame needs to be presented the denoiser takes what's there in the RT scene and works with that. In that exemple, the RT doesn't compute at a specific point in the pipeline but updates constantly, with the feedback from the denoiser to know where to prioritize samples.

This has massive advantages for Drake, as this allows constant performance with no drops in framerate, and makes much better use of the available RT hardware (more info in the video).

TLDR : Jesus Christ Nvidia is COOKING

The first pic have quite a lot of aliasing, and the second one uses FSR 2.0 (one of the first game to use this version on the Switch ?) and is a lot cleaner with clean smooth edges.
You can get that for free $100 with the classic mcable!

On another note, I get that its universal, but how much time/money is added for a game when FSR 2.0 is used? Is it easy to use?

Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg angrily glares, "Are we a joke to you??"

Hope it's related to Nintendo bird songs.
Those songs won't be sung for a while. Like any good composition, you must refine & tinker until the score is flawless.

(The songs I've heard need further vetting and it'll take time before I'm in any position to report what I have but the songs are exceptional.)

It's very easy. If you already have DLSS/TAA in place, then FSR2 drops right in with almost no work. There is obviously testing and QA that is required, but development is like, a day's worth of work.

From what you already know or have heard but haven't yet been able to validate - is it optimistic, or should expectations here be tempered?

Exceptional as in "you should be excited" or as in "very detailed information, just needs more vetting"? I'm curious.

You see, you don't even need to say what these say tbh, just your take on "is it good, is it bad" is all we need (well, all I need for sure).

Damn this man said “exceptional”. Wow lol

You can tell he's lying just by reading the third line

Why does anyone pay any attention to fakes that are so obviously not merely bad, but from someone who doesn't know the first thing about anything. Mixing up its and it's while claiming to leak marketing information especially is just hilarious.

There are 3 GPU clocks developers can use in portable mode. We know that Doom Eternal even switches between these 3 clocks as needed.

Portable 307MHz or 157GFLOPs upto ~240GFLOPs mixed precision
Performance 384MHz or 196GFLOPs upto ~300GFLOPs mixed precision
Boost mode 460MHz or 235GFLOPs upto ~360GFLOPs mixed precision
Docked 768MHz or 393GFLOPs upto ~600GFLOPs mixed precision

MK11 was the first game to officially support 460MHz portably, but it is available.
As someone else pointed out, there was confusion over the 460MHz option; it seems Eurogamer just wasn't aware of it when they reported on clock speeds before launch. 1.0.0 BotW running on 1.0.0 Switch firmware uses the 460MHz profile, it was never not a thing on release hardware/software.

It's possible MK11 was the first third party title to use it, and Nintendo restricted access to it outside of games they supervised for a while? But I'm not certain, it's been a long time since I've looked into this (and I admittedly don't have that many third party titles to verify with).

Hm, I wonder. I won't expect a reveal of the successor in the september direct or TGS, mainly due to Mario Kart's BCP, of which I expect a tease of two tracks in the September Direct, and will release in begin/mid october. Because if the wave is release, the whole BCP is over, and that's where I suspect Nintendo will take their time for marketing of Switch 2. Let's say, 3 months later, around january I expect the ''First Look'' trailer of the next system, with short footages of the new Mario Kart and other games. They'll hype people up for the next system, and a new MK since 10 years. 9 months later, we're back in september 2024, and thus second half of the year, where they release it. 9 months seems normal, if you look at how long most Nintendo games release after an announcement. In between the First Look trailer and release, they'll probs have an presentation on the thing, and it's the reveal/release cyclus of Switch in 2016/2017 all over again. And this because of the BCP of MK8D, because why would they show a new system with probably a new MK if the BCP isn't finished yet?

Access to the 460 MHz profile is still restricted as far as I can tell. It's just straight up not in the documentation, not even with a "contact your Nintendo rep if you need access to this" note which some other technical features have (just other rather uninteresting stuff, though).

Any thoughts on why?

Does it requires some consideration about thermals that games aren't normally expected to consider?

Battery life probably. Mariko units can probably handle it with acceptable power consumption, but Erista units probably drain a lot faster than Nintendo likes. Don't know if anybody has measured Erista battery life on MK 11.

And as i know there are other third party games that use this profile, like TW3
