I finished 3rd temple in zelda and I had to take a break for something that really interests me. I sunk over 30hrs in a week in persona 5, while I couldn't do the same for zelda in two months :ROFLMAO: Persona is so good, fond memories of playing 3 and 4 are coming back. I hope Kasumi is playable at some point! Makoto's persona is so cool 🏍️

Royal is a treat if this is your first time through P5. Royal expanded the game a LOT.

Speaking of, I hit 105 hours on the dot... and I still haven't started the next dungeon. Eep.

Yeah, It's my first time with p5. I hate those atlus shady tactics with rereleases. Im afraid they'll do the same with Metaphor, so I'll probably won't get it day one.

I'm making a concerted effort to finish all the Final Fantasy games I haven't yet beaten before the release of FF7 Rebirth next year. As of now, that's:

2 (I only have one dungeon left)
3
4 (started ages ago but didn't finish)
5
Mystic Quest
7 (started numerous times but never get very far in)
8 (started but got sucked into a Triple Triad black hole)
9 (about halfway? I think I left off at Fossil Roo)
10
10-2
13-2 (a bit of a ways in, but stalled out because of TotK)
Lightning Returns
Type-0
16

How feasible is what I'm trying to do here? I'll probably jump around between styles so I don't burn myself out.
I personally think you’ll get burned out. I love Final Fantasy and it took me a few years to play them all. The only super important one to clear is VII. Maybe try to knock out the games lower than it and maybe XVI? That seems reasonable.

Very possible! I can probably knock out 3, 4, and 5 in the next month and then see how I'm feeling at that point. 8 and beyond are pretty low on my priority list from what I've played of them, in any case. Very excited about 5, though -- it's the one I know least about, other than its supposed tone and general system(s) appealing to me.

Well the megabomb was used and the dragon in Marie is dead

Now working on creating 5 items left from the recipe books you can buy.

On the last stretch of the eighth palace from the Vanilla path in P5R - turns out maxing Ohya was very smart since I fused Nebiro with max EXP and then boosted it again with another Persona getting it to level 80. The enemy/boss gauntlet in this section is a bit of a pain in the butt, had my entire team brainwashed at one point, but haven't died yet! I definitely should have made more Goho-m though...

Then finally the third semester... I'm deathly paranoid I somehow fucked up triggering it even though I maxed all relevant Confidants.

I know that section gets some flak sometimes, but I honestly love it, especially the entire last bit before the (used to be) final boss. I really think things come together extremely well and that has to be one of my favorite game climaxes of all time.

And you definitely need to update us with your thoughts as you get into the new content, lots of delicious stuff in there.

We’ll see for sure this weekend but I think I have FFVIII rhythm going(and I don’t mean in Theatrhythm… I’m saving those till after I finish the actual game XD). Tho I need to get back to Ryza at some point.

Also feeling conflicted if I wanna start P3P or P5R. Should probably start with the older one tho. Plus femc

I knew I triggered the third semester properly when fucking Akechi popped out of nowhere on Christmas Eve lol

Now I'm really excited as I've loved all the Royal enhancements and I'll finally get the new content... after like 112 hours

Oh man.

I am going to fucking love this third semester in P5R. I am totally into the direction it's going.

The oddball teamup of Joker/Kasumi/Akechi is fucking great. Honestly, Akechi went from a character who was kind of mid in vanilla to maybe being the best character in the game? Between the Social Link and the third semester, I'm loving him here. Now that I'm finally here I'm gonna really love this I think.

I absolutely sucked at this game on PSP back in the day lol. I beat Gungnir and Knights in the Nightmare though.
Wonder if I can do any better nowadays...
I still really want to play Gungnir. I finished Yggdra Union but KitN made me feel so stupid, even as an SRPG veteran- I felt like I barely understood any of the stats or mechanics that were going on!

did you never play Riviera?!
I did yeah, the music is amazing. I never did finish it though. I do plan on getting it sometime this year and want to finish it this time.

In terms of Sting's RPG games, I also really liked Generation of Chaos: Pandora's Reflection (SRPG), one of the very last games I played on the PSP alongside Gungnir and Growlanser IV. I think like only 11 or 12 people on the planet played that game though lol. It's like a music rhythm combat system fused with Ogre Battle map where you move between bases to attack the enemies and take over the bases with different units. It's really good.

Gungnir is actually pretty close to Tactics Ogre in terms of feel, it's a drab and gloomy atmosphere is definitely evocative of Ogre Saga and the mechanics are very much your standard grid based SRPG, so you needn't worry it will be like KitN, or anything. The game is hard though. Or at least I found it hard at the time, maybe I'd be better at it now? Hopefully it also gets re-released, would be great for more people to get to play it since it's a great SRPG.

KitN I tried to get into a few times but it finally clicked for me after I watched some YouTube videos/read GameFAQs a bit. The game fusing together psychedelic visuals with bullet hell and RPG combat is certainly ambitious, plus the music is of course, great. I played the PSP version, so I'd imagine DS version might be even harder since it's touch screen and requires precise movements, not sure if they toned down the difficulty for PSP release, or not.

fucking adore Yggdra Union man. all the battle themes so hype too
Yes, one of the best tracks! Also this version allows you to use the original (GBA) or the newer one ( I guess the psp/mobile)

The game is really hard, even if you know what you are doing. I was surprised an original gba game could be that complex and it totally beat my ass back in the day. Still this version has a lot of options to make it easier for newcomers, like infinite use of items.

Never played Yggdra Union. Man, I really need to fix that. This looks amazing!
IT's really good and a different way to play SRPG. The fact you can only attack union once per turn, that you have to consider your cards and movement and how to manage morale, makes FE looks like "my first srpg"

I'm obviously playing this in easy, no way I'm going to suffer on normal or hard (hard is the original GBA lol) and I'm really enjoying it. Plus you have infinite rewind so if you mess (and you are going to) yoi don't need to restart the entire battle. The game is still very complex and even though I clear it twice, I still have to go back to some faqs because some mechanics are rocket science (even some of the tricks/cheats in the store description are only shown in the manual !)

Glad to hear you're enjoying Reverie that much ;-)

I haven't finished it yet, but I'd say Octopath II is overall the winner right now but my major issue is Reverie being a mess on Switch. Will see how I feel at the finale. Hope you've been well by the way!

New informations and gameplay for Rear Sekai and a around 4 minute gameplay trailer

The combat looks fine but there is something about the character portraits that look weirds tome. Seems to be more action oriented.

This was shown on the bushiroad presentation and they also updated info on the Goblin Slayer SRPG and just a teaser for Mushoku Tensei, which based on the background graphics seems to be a dungeon crawler

I've been checking the NISA twitter page and I have not seen an update to the switch version lol.

Yes. I expected it sadly. Patches take time for certification but even with the issues fixed, the port is just disappointing. Crossing all my fingers that they get PH3 to handle Kuro no Kiseki or else it might be the first Falcom release I skip physically on Switch.

Hope you've been well by the way!
I have! I just get too comfortable with the lurker life and end up posting way less than I could ever manage to in a busier "Octopath period". Hope you're doing well too!

Early Ys Origin feelings: never thought I would but I'm missing my boy Adol, Yunica might be a simple character but she's quite endearing nevertheless, Ys I & II bosses being here is a trip, (and they're wonderfully designed too), isometric 3D Darm Tower's cool.

I get that the dungeon crawling is the focus here, and honestly, it probably plays to the team's strengths (of the time), though I'm not enjoying the game quite as much as I would a more "normal" Ys experience. With no towns breaking up the flow the game just feels a touch... dry? Moreover I can't say I'm looking forward to replaying the game 2 more times to get the full story. A playthrough with Yunica/Hugo followed by the third character would have been a better choice imo (which I know you can do in the steam release).

Honestly a big part of the fun so far has been picking up on the Ys I & II references, I definitely would recommend people play the duology before Origin.

I actually thought this was very thematic and what makes the game having a better pacing and more unique. Unlike the other games they clearly state you really don't have time to do anything else and need to find the godesses / reach the top ASAP, and the music, action an floor design complement this. It's really why it's my favorite Ys game, it goes to the point and with only one sidequest, you can really feel the tension of the situation

Oh it does compliment the story. I just don't find dungeon crawling always all the time to be as enticing as what the other titles in the series gave me. I also don't think they managed to spice up the various environments quuuuite as much as they should have. The music is not jumping out at me, and the upgrade system as well, feels like 75% of the stuff on it is useless or... boring? Though I guess the Ys titles have more of an arcade-y feel to them so you can't really expect massive gameplay shake-ups from their RPG elements. I'm focusing on the negatives but the game as a whole is enjoyable no doubt.

I know it's not a popular opinion but, (as of right now), I'm still fondest of VI of all the Naphistim engine games. Usually people rank it dead last of the three haha.

Edit Totally unrelated to this Ys Origin convo but I just have to get this off my chest: people who don't like Ys I&II's bump system are heathens! Heathens I tell you!

I bought this immediately once the eShop updated and it couldn't have happened at a better time. When this game appeared on the upcoming section I decided to power up the Vita for old time's sake and check out my YU save but once I clicked on the icon the system froze up and my save was corrupted. Damn shitty Vita memory cards, at least most of my favorite PSP/Vita games are being ported to the Switch.
Just wanna say everybody should play Riviera. Ein lives in my head rent free as one of the most lovable RPG characters ever 😁
I remember the first time I saw Riviera in the pages of Nintendo Power; it was tiny preview with a single screenshot the size of a postage stamp, but I was instantly captivated and bought the game as soon as I found a copy. Now that YU is out my hopes that Riviera (and KitN) will also be released here have risen greatly.

I expect Gungnir to be next on the remaster list now that YU and KitN are out and Riviera is coming soon; then once that's done maybe we'll get a new entry in the series.

Personally I think the DS version is easier to play due to the touchscreen and stylus, but the PSP version is the definitive version (or was) with all the little improvements and extras.

Did you ever play Oath in Felghana? That was a good blend of what you would like I think.

And glad to hear you are well. I have been well thank you, just busy with work and too many games I want to play.

Making my way through FFVIIR right now, I'm in chapter 9 currently. This really hits the spot in terms of nostalgia and making me feel all giddy about the FF7-verse again. Well, it is my favourite FF setting (slightly edging out FFXII), so it's probably no wonder, hah. I just looove the characters here so much.

Yep, earlier this year actually. I'm slowly but steadily making my way through the series game by game.

I enjoyed Felghana, some things more than VI, others less. I'm glad I played it on easy though 🫣. Also fuck that snowy mountain, dungeon and boss.

While I'm definitely more of a casual RPG player (story and ambiance over systems), truthfully, I must admit that these solo Adol-era Ys games sort of live and die by their dungeon design, though alas I can't confidently rank them against each other on that front, I'd have to play them back to back to even consider doing that, and even then I don't know if I'd be capable of digging into the nuances of that conversation.

As long as you are having fun, that's all that matters. I've played Ys 8 so many times across difficulty modes and platforms, but I played it first on easy because I heard the game was too long and I didn't have much time back then.

Also I forgot to post and tag you about this

Very excited!

Hey y’all, need some advice. Really want to play P3 on Switch but currently the only version is the PSP one — which I’ve heard is the worst one. Should I play that one or wait and see if the remake releases for Switch too?

P3P is not the worse one, that’s vanilla. In fact FeMC is considered the best way to play the game(and isn’t on the remake). There is the tradeoff of it being more direct with less menu fluff and less anime cutscenes but it’s a fine way to play. Basically the game has 2 opposing standards(P vs FES) but neither was the worst… and remake seems to be adding a third choice instead of replacing either.

Note I’ve got p3p in my backlog myself XD

P3P is perfectly enjoyable on its own terms. It's how I played it.

Finished the main campaign in Diablo 4! It was... uneven, to me. I don't entirely like the loot system, the game feels a bit disjointed due to the more open structure, and the plot and characters had their moments but overall weren't all that interesting IMO. By the end, the story felt like it was more like a big teaser for whatever is coming next, and it lacked focus and a certain something. I also think that playing a lot of Path of Exile may have really hurt my enjoyment of the gameplay and character building, as I kept thinking just how much better that game is at that. Overall, I enjoyed the game well enough, but I don't think I'll be playing much more of it or doing the season or anything.

The game does have some excellent voice acting at times, especially if you like deep male voices: Lorath is great (Ralph Ineson) and he's also the voice of Cid in FF16, having one hell of a year. But one of the all-time greats returns with freaking Steve Blum voicing Mephisto and his voice is just delicious, holy hell (pun slightly intended). Reminded me of how much I love him in basically everything.

I had Persona on umd for psp, but never got too far, it was so far. Is it worth trying again? I have played

Persona 3

Persona 3 FES

Persona 3 Portable on psp

Persona 3 Portable on pc / Xbox (soon done)

Persona 4

Persona 4 Golden Vita

Persona 4 Golden Xbox / PC

Persona 5

Persona 5 Royal

Persona 5 Strikers

Thinking I will play Persona 5 Royal on xbox / PC yet again, but I am just thirsty for Persona. What should I do?

Same here, despite owning P3FES and P4 when I was borrowing my cousins PS2 it was P3P that became my first foray into modern Persona. Sure it lacked the anime cutscenes and character model skits of the home console versions but I really enjoyed the more streamlined focus. These days P4G and P5R have succeeded in bringing the entire Persona experience to handhelds, but P3P still holds its ground with the FeMC route and the unique way it was developed for handhelds.

I would say go for it as long as you remember that the first Persona (and the Persona 2 duology) are very different from the modern Persona. They lack the social elements modern titles have and instead are pure dungeon crawlers. The combat also requires you to take positioning into account since most attacks will only strike certain areas on the battlefield. I think the game is still worth a playthrough though just to see how Persona first got started.

Play Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, it’s a sequel to both 3 and 4!

Ah yes, accomplishing something out of pure spite; I know that feeling well.
I like the descriptions are based on Marie's experience and not what the item is actually about. Liek the Philosopher's stone entry in the item guide is "the grand goal of alchemy.... or something like that"
