Are we finally seeing Metroid Prime 4's re-reveal in the next Nintendo Direct?

Metroid Prime 4: Subtitle just like 2 and 3. They're not going to abandon the brand just cause Dark Samus/Metroid Prime are dead. Sylux gunna make a new Metroid Prime with the Metroid he stole.

Oh. Well maybe no 4 in the title. It's just gonna be called "New Metroid Prime" :p
I swear if they do an Alien Resurrection with this xD though a room full of failed Prime attempts would be cool, maybe there would be a bamco reference in the room 🤪

I thought hardware sales are slowing down but not really software? TotK just sold 10m in it's first few days.
No software sales were down YoY last FY for the first time in the Switch's life. Seemingly more than Nintendo expected as they dropped their forecast a bit, and then brought back the voucher program. Definitely there was some unexpected weakness for new releases and evergreens, particularly in the US. We know for this FY they expect the decline to continue based on their forecast. I think releasing MP4 as a Switch only release would probably be a bad idea at this stage tbh, cross-gen may help it get more attention.

The sales angle is the main reason for my "it should be 3rd person" post the other night. Seeing MPR sell so dramatically less than Dread, even with incredible reviews and a lowered MSRP, was quite surprising to me. I don't think anyone expected that. Which has me questioning what it is Metroid/Nintendo fans want out of the series, and the viability of single player FPS games in the current market.

I think that would be a viable thought, but mpr had 0 marketing. Quality can only do so much. And dread on the other side had an extensive ad campaign.

Lol, if there's not a failed DK looking Metroid Prime I'm gonna be disappointed :p

I wonder if they could release it this year for Switch but then do DLC and time it with the launch of the Switch 2 to reinvigorate sales? Either that or do some bundles with MP4 at the Switch 2 launch and would be an upgraded version of the game. I think there's a lot they could do to give this game some legs.

I'm basing this off titles like XC3/FE engage/MP:R (bayonetta 3 also matched the switch version of 2 and that already had its base on wiiu), the big titles still sell a lot (zelda/pokemon), metroid falls in line with the former. I think the only exception is kirby which was already more popular than metroid and went 3d for the first time.

Dread also launched with a new model and I hope the success it found from that will encourage nintendo to do a crossgen launch for prime 4 as well

I don't think comparing sale numbers of Prime Remakester and Dread is very fair, nor is it a good indicator for how Prime 4 will sell, tbh. Dread was a long awaited (and kinda fabled) sequel, had an extenisve marketing campaign and basically launched together with new hardware (Or at least Dread was heavily marketed as a game to showcase the OLED Switch).

The other game was shadow dropped after a direct as a digital download and you had to wait (in some parts of the world even longer than in others) for a physical release (if you were lucky enough to get a preorder in). Yes, Prime is a fan favourite and the best selling Metroid game after Dread, it's a very good remaster but it's still a remaster of a 20+ year old game with all its strengths and weaknesses (basically if you didn't vibe with FPS Metroid back then, the Remaster won't be anything you'd be interested in) 🤔

Yes, Prime R had a lot of things going for it but, as Mr Doggo already said, quality can only do so much. I honestly think the only things we can reasonably derive for Prime 4 is that there's potential it will sell as well as Dread if it's not shadow dropped and reviews well

For sure the weird marketing and release format is sort of the saving grace there. Hopefully that was the primary issue.

if Prime 4 does turn out to be cross-gen would they wait till the next console reveal or during the re-reveal like BOTW was announced for the NX before we got the official reveal for Switch?

I think it just depends when they can actually complete development of the game. I think after the restart they want to get it to fans as soon as possible. If it's done before the Switch 2 release, we'll get it on Switch and then there will just be a next gen patch/upgrade. But if it takes a bit longer the finish making the game then we'll get a simultaneous release on both systems. It was always meant to be a Switch game, and they're not going to hold it back several months to a year just so it can come out on Switch 2 as well.

i think it will be revealed before, yeah. Assuming the next console releases early 2024, there are two spots i could see before the "console presentation"

A september direct.
The Game Awards. Yeah yeah nintendo doesnt really gives ths show big games anymore, BUT, MP4 would be the perfect game for the tga, i can see a small chance it could happen.

Keighley has been trying to get a Metroid reveal for 10 years now haha. IDK if Ninty would give it to him.

they didn't even give him prime remaster that was shadow-dropped 2 months after the VGA's

I do wonder what Nintendo's approach for marketing this game will be though. I actually think a VGA reveal of the game would probably reach a bigger audience than a Nintendo Direct, but I still wouldn't bet on it happening.

Saw this posted to the subreddit earlier today. Idzuki Kouji (@moonup777), the mangaka behind Samus & Joey, is very proud of his work on it, I've noticed! I haven't read through the manga in its entirety yet, but I definitely plan to at some point, and his art is extremely cool!

Kouji's actual post:

Geoff would lose every last shred of chill if he got to reveal it at TGA. His pre show tweets would be ridiculous

I've been reading "maybe we'll see Metroid at TGA this year" posts for every single year of the Switch's life and at this point I'm convinced it's more likely that we'll see an actual real-live unicorn at TGA.

If it was, it would make TGA worth watching and the universe won't let that happen

The closest thing to Metroid at TGAs was and always will be Reggie wearing a Samus pin at one of the shows.

Never forget people thinking this was a tease for Metroid at The Game Awards because of Reggie's Metroid shirt and the background mural saying "she".

Famous Metroid developer Wolfgang Puck.

She smiled, "But I need a couple more years. I'm resting up for Mother Brain."

Anybody knows when the CESA White Papers will get released? It was supposed to be May or June but we're almost in July and nothing. I really want to know were Dread ended up after a year, since we only know how much it did in 5 months.

I also think I'm joining fall 2024 cross gen team just as a copium. I'll be pleasently surprised if it's early 2024 and I definitely want that, but after being on team 2019 after the reveal, then team 2021/2022 after the reboot, and for like 4 months(from MPR shadowdrop until June Direct) in "Holiday 2023/Q1 2024 team", I think it's better if I expect it the latest probable date and if it comes before I just get happy with it.

My current prediction is it's revealed at the September Direct with a 2024 release date, much like Bayonetta 3 being re-revealed at the September Direct of 2021 and releasing in October 2022. I think it either skips February Direct and gets a release date trailer and blow out by June 2024. Or maybe it's like TotK and it comes in May, is shown again in February and gets a final trailer in April.

Just realized luigi's mansion 2 getting a HD remaster opens the gate for a samus returns remaster on Switch

This was actually my immediate thought upon seeing the trailer. Maybe in the lead up to Metroid 6 they might give it to us. I feel so greedy as a Metroid fan these days haha.

Does anyone else get the Metroid series item fanfare theme going through their head on a regular basis (I'm talking hourly at least) or is that just me?

Man... I was considering just passing on the E.M.M.I. figma, but these pics are making it look really cool.

It does indeed look great. But I've been holding off only because there's a part of me that is thinking they still might loop back around and do RB and/or one of his followers. And those are who I REALLY want!

Oh god, please no secret Samus sibling! That'd be the most cliché thing they could do, especially after the computer in Fusion turned out to be her dad, and the main villain in Dread also turned out to be her dad 🙃 I get creating personal connections between Samus and the characters around her, but "I was your brother all along!" just seems to me like it could come across super hackneyed. I dunno.

And late, but, even if I wouldn't necessarily mind this happening, I'd agree with it, too. Like how would Samus just forget that she had a sibling, not to mention how I'd just don't see Sakamoto even allowing such a major thing that would radically change his baby girl's established history in such a way.

The most I could see, assuming Sylux was really going to be someone tied to Samus's history, is that Sylux could be like say...a neighbor. A childhood friend that Samus could've played with during those innocent, younger years, and easily could've passed off as being long since dead and gone after the Pirates attacked. And perhaps where Samus got picked up by two kindly bird dads after the massacre, that "unlucky childhood friend" got picked off by someone else. Someone else with an axe to grind for the Federation, and Sylux, being the survivor of a colony where Federation support came far too late, would have had plenty of time to grow up echoing their ideals.

And to perhaps twist the knife even further? Perhaps even though Sylux does remember Samus...Sammy, herself doesn't. And would have to have her mind jogged because of how much work she's done to put the trauma of K-2L behind her.

No, dont make sylux related to samus at all, the universe already feels minuscule.

I mean, if you really want to make the universe larger, that means introducing places and races that, at the very least, weren't touched by a sect of space bird wizard ninjas, or one of their surrogates. That's the reason I actually hope that races like the Kriken, and/or whomever was on Bion can take more of a focal point in future Prime games, so that we aren't stuck with chasing after Chozo relics, or fighting off Space Pirates for the umpteenth time.

But after nearly 20 years of teasing and playing in our faces, and already being an apparent rival to Samus in ability and power? I feel like at least for Sylux, there has to be a personal element to whatever the reason the dude's been creeping on Samus.

I'm not particularly sold on the idea of putting focus on Sylux anyway, but a direct connection to Samus isn't necessary. Clearly, they've encountered each other before, and maybe there's some history there.

All Sylux would need to be relating to Samus, creating a thematic connection.

We know Samus' story -- colony attacked by space pirates, parents eaten by a giant purple space dragon, but she survived, was raised by space birds, joined the Galactic Federation and eventually broke off to be a bounty hunter*. Perhaps Sylux had a similar origin: colony attacked and harbors strong and ever-growing resentment toward the Federation for not doing anything, or perhaps, to add a wrinkle to the story, the Federation itself was directly involved in some way, making the burning hatred sympathetic, justified even. And while Samus didn't take part, she did used to work for the Federation, and she is still on good terms with them -- and she and Sylux are just enough mirrors of each other in different ways that a personal interest toward and disgust with her is sparked.

Even here, there are story connections -- victims of similar circumstance, a connection to the Federation, and so forth, but they take wildly diverging paths and are only really connected by those similarities and encounters with each other, or by their actions indirectly affecting the other.

Beyond that, it's a vast and terrifying universe out there. I mentioned in the other thread that it makes sense to retire Ridley at this point --especially now that he's finally immortalized in Super Smash Bros. -- and that the space pirates could use a break. Hunters introduced the Kriken Empire as a concept, but even Federation Force ran right back to the familiar trappings.

There's room to explore further.

I maintain that the series really blew open the doors with Fusion -- the metroid will be with us, wherever her adventures lead.[/ispoiler]
