I thought this Direct was fantastic! Then again, I don't really care about the distinction between 1st party announcements and 3rd party announcements, even for indie games. As long as the games look appealing, I'm interested. A good is a good game. Lots to look forward to this year!
Well said.

Except he leaked the E1-2S twitter announcement, so it can't just be youtube. Yesterday was the first time E1-2S dropped on youtube.
I mean yeah but this game was known to everybody, he mentioned the week and not the exact date. Of course he has some sources after all but I don't think it will last long.

The September direct might be below average ngl.

Should have update on NSO
Super Mario Bros Wonder
Maybe new Peach game?
Pokémon dlc
Ports/remasters
Super Mario RPG

Errrrmmm idk if we’ll see Prime 4.

Super Mario Wonder looks so good. I don’t know the last time I’ve been this excited to play a game!

I don't think TotK is getting DLC and am totally okay with that.
Kinda wish there was DLC since I think parts of the game could use some more content but I agree that there likely won't be any or we would've seen it here.

And anyways since I'm around 70 hours in and maybe halfway done it's not like the game's lacking in stuff

I had a very vivid dream about this direct and it included an HD collection of Dillon's Rolling Western plus a new isometric title

I just refreshed the fami homepage looking for a thread about it and realized it wasn't part of this direct, the chaotic nature of it fooled me D:

The only notable omission was F-Zero GX - though could certainly be announced in the September Direct with a very short announcement-to-launch window.

MP4 was always a coin toss between this and the September Direct. I'm sure we'll see it there.

I’m thinking F-Zero GX will be a shadowdrop in the September direct. It’s the only rumored GC game which makes sense to me to drop then.

I will say no announcement today doesn’t mean there isn’t DLC, there is no time frame to announce DLC, just look at Mario Kart lol.

If a new Switch is coming next year though, I can see Nintendo saving that content to add to the “Deluxe” edition of TOTK

We still don't have a September game, which is pretty weird for Nintendo. Detective Pikachu and Mario Wonder are October, and Warioware and Super Mario RPG are November. We're looking at another game shadowdropping during the September Direct for sure.

Dark Cloud, why do you lie to yourself? We all know that once the new speculation thread goes up, you're going snorting up all the hype and getting really stoked

I’m thinking F-Zero GX.

At the end of the day dude has sources beyond youtube back end was my point, and a bunch of people on this site owe them an apology for doubting them.

Might convene an expert panel of scientists, astrologers, goldfish enthusiasts and angry pensioners who write to their local newspapers to establish if we escaped The Dringest Timeline or not.

Well considering Dring is moving the goal post to say Mario doesn't count because it's "not a 10 million day 1 game, but a title that sells well overtime"

People keep saying there's no September game, the physical version of Pikmin 1-2 drops in September.
Physical Metroid launched in March and Nintendo had Bayonetta Origins that month. The digital release doubled up the same month as Kirby (February).

Pikmin 1+2 digital doubles up with Stinky Horse this month; no reason why there wouldn't be something else in September from Nintendo. Personally I think a casual title is likelier.

Metroid 4 not being shown makes sense. It will probably be shown in September for Switch 2 launch next year (as well as being on regular Switch). Switch 2 won't be shown until next year.

Has he actually already said that?

Just checked and kinda typical. He's right on the line up overall; Mario RPG, WarioWare, Detective Pikachu are fairly low calibre titles in terms of sales potential. If you look at the September through November period Nintendo usually have a big Pokemon title and something else to help do heavy lifting (like Splatoon 3 last year or Mario Party the year before). This year Nintendo are (seemingly) banking on Super Mario Wonder as the lone big seller.

But mainline Super Mario in October on a ~130 million install base, the same year that a Super Mario movie has been massively popular? It's going to be a big launch and a strong ongoing seller for Nintendo. It's a flagship EPD title and a big game by any standard.

I love TOTK but I agree with this. 170 hours in and I still have to do 35 shrines, haven't even found half of the caves, still need to do 2 of the floating Labyrinths, and am still missing 3 Lightroots. This Hyrule is iconic but it's been milked for all its worth. I am excited to move on.

Did we forget that Tears of the Kingdom moved 10 million its first weekend? Nintendo's absolutely counting on some holiday legs for that as well.

Wait, for real?
Yeah

I could see the first wave of Pokemon dlc dropping in September. Would be a pretty big deal.

This Direct had seven separate Mario Universe announcements. Seven.
  1. Super Mario RPG
  2. Untitled Princess Peach game
  3. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon HD
  4. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope: The Last Spark Hunter
  5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Booster Course Pass Wave 5
  6. WarioWare: Move It
  7. Super Mario Bros Wonder

Ring Fit Adventure 2?

Kinda crazy how much they packed into H2 now that I'm looking over the release dates. Nintendo could feasibly hit their 15M sales target.

Seriously the movie and the sheer size of the Switch install base is uncharted territory for a mainline Super Mario title launch. We've no precedent for those kind of circumstances and I suspect Nintendo are banking on it being a very, very big launch.

No I'm very obviously talking about the titles Nintendo are actually releasing in that period versus what they normally do across September through November. If we want to compare to previous years, in 2022 they'd already done strong sellers like Pokemon Legends and Switch Sports earlier in the year, too, but it didn't stop them from having both Splatoon 3 and Pokemon in September and November. In 2019 they'd done two Super Mario titles in the first half, but still banked on multiple big sellers in the holiday season.

A single title doing the heavy lifting is slightly unusual in the Switch era and rarely happens; 2020 and 2017 being the other examples of it, and Super Mario being the series Nintendo relied on in both of those years too. Christopher Dring is also correct to point out that, by way of comparison with the rest of the holiday line up, there isn't another major title among them. That's not a controversial thing to point out, even if I think he's being dismissive of Super Mario Wonder's launch sales potential.
Ring Fit Adventure 2?
This would be a really strong late life option for Switch - be great if there's a digital option for owners of the ring-con. I'm not sure, though; somebody more knowledgable than me on EPD 4's producers and activities would have to chip in to say if that's a realistic option.

September Direct could be something like

  • Super Princess Peach Returns
  • Luigi’s Mansion 2
  • Super Mario Wonder overview
  • Super Mario RPG overview
  • Pikmin 4 DLC
  • F-Zero GX
  • Metroid Prime 4

If we say all those will launch before end of March 2024
