I was quietly drinking my coffee until I thought that the horse game will outsell the best-selling Metroid game. Good Morning Fami.

Nah, opener. Something unexpected will be the closer.
If the 2d Mario is as wild as the leaks suggest that would be a pretty unexpected and big game by all accounts. Unless they have something else that completely blows everyones socks off i think it's a safe bet. Even if they had MP4 here thats more likely to be the starter since it's already been announced (even if it was 7 years ago and there are likely a huge chunk of people who've forgotten about it's existence)

4 of the last 5 directs have used an already-announced game as the closer (June 2021, September 2022 and February 2023 ended with Tears of the Kingdom, September 2021 ended with Bayonetta 3)

Good point, but in those cases TOTK was the biggest thing they had, and with Bayonetta that was the biggest thing they had. In this case, especially with the success of the Mario movie (and assuming the leaks are real the novelty of this new 2d game) it wouldn't be a stretch to assume it could be the closer too

Why do people keep repeating the Chrono Trigger thing? Has anyone other than Zoppo reported it?
Wishful thinking.
It was the first thing people jumped to when thinking about a SNES remake.

Funny thing is, Zippo posted about Chrono Trigger right after it was mentioned here in the locked speculation thread.

I mentioned on the last page I’m sticking with Prime 4 being there because I 100% still believe it is the closer. What I’m shaky on is the release date, which I’m currently sticking with November.

Early on in our speculation thread my guess shifted that either Prime 4 or Donkey Kong was the November game or even perhaps both (I believe Mario is the September game for context). For my final guess I’m picking Prime 4 and DK is 2024, but now we have a new rumor that gives me more pause, the Super Mario RPG remake rumor. I strongly believe the TTYD Switch port exists which makes me shaky on believing this Super Mario RPG remake exists. Of course the wrinkle is that we’ve had a dearth of Mario RPG content throughout the Switch era and this would presumably be more of a Square Enix initiative more than Nintendo itself who just has to pick the time to release it. But let’s say it does exist, now it is a question of what exactly it is. It could be just a sharper looking version of a classic game or perhaps it could be far more ambitious and be full 3D with new content. If it is the way more ambitious version there’s a possibility it could stand as the November game.

Again in all of this, I’m sticking with Prime 4 is the November game, but it is interesting there’s another potential contender here. As a passionate Nintendo speculator, this is one of the things I’m most excited to see how it pans out exactly in 7+ hours.

It’ll be a two-horse race. But the thing about Nintendo’s stable of games is that some have a stronger pedigree than others.

Last predictions for what the schedule for Nintendo is gonna look like for the next year and a half:

2023
July: Pikmin 4
September: Detective Pikachu 2 + Splatoon DLC
October: F-Zero GX HD + Pokemon DLC
November: 2D Mario

2024
February: Fire Emblem 4 remake
April: Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door HD
May: Metroid Prime 4
November: Switch 2 + 3D Mario

Then random other assorted smaller games spread throughout.

Look, I love bayonetta, but there's no way you can call it the biggest thing in the direct when it had Mario party superstars, Splatoon, monster hunter rise sunbreak, Kirby and the forgotten land, so on.

Looking at a list of games in that direct, Bayonetta was probably the smallest title from Nintendo discussed.

I’m not going to attribute Chrono Trigger to anyone if that happens because we actually already have reason to suspect more Chrono content may be coming soon beyond Cross and Theatrhythm DLC. The Chrono Cross Twitter account was named ChronoGame rather than just being Chrono Cross named. It definitely showed intention back then that Cross wasn’t the end of it. There’s also a new ending in Chrono Cross HD that serves as either a final good bye or a hint at something new depending on how you read it.

Wait how did I miss that the last spark hunter was confirmed real? That headline completely vanished.

Imo Bayonetta was the biggest thing there. But even if you think otherwise, just more reason for 2d Mario to be a contender for last reveal. Anyway no point in arguing about this lol, all will be revealed in just 7 hours

MHR: Sunbreak had sold more than five million copies at £30 a go by early this year. It was a bigger deal than Bayonetta and it was ‘just’ a major expansion for Rise. MH as an IP dwarfs Bayo, MHR is Capcom’s second-biggest title, ever.

Metroid Prime 4 will be there.

we need a poll, will the FE announcement be remakes/remasters of FE 4/5, or 9/10

What about naming it Deluxe round?
i like that too. i would prefer round 3 but i doubt they'd want to keep the numbers in the title. they can also go with the last round, give it final fantasy vibes.

My prediction of stuff I feel confident we’ll see today and then a comprehensive list of some rumored projects that are very likely not to be in the direct…

Predictions For Direct
  • Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Remastered will be shadowdropped; physical release early July
  • Pikmin 4
  • 2D Mario
  • F-Zero GX Remaster
  • Mario Kart DLC
  • Metroid Prime 4; dated for either January, February, or Spring 2024
  • Chrono Trigger or Super Mario RPG remake; 2024 release year
  • Zelda: TotK DLC Pass
  • Sizzle Reel of upcoming games: Baten Kaitos I & II HD, Disney Illusion Island, etc.

Some Rumored Projects Unlikely To Be Announced This Direct IMO
  • Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Remake
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Remastered
  • Zelda: Twilight Princess HD
  • Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
  • Fire Emblem 4 Remake
  • 3D Mario
  • 2D or 3D Donkey Kong

Last year I predicted some things right before the Direct like Pikmin 4 but I also had a bad source which told me that TotK will be at TGA.

This year is completely different, I have a new source and so far my track record is 100%. February Direct, Zelda final trailer, June Direct. And this is just a beginning, beginning of the journey we are calling who the fuck is that phase 2.

Any news of a potential Donkey Kong game? We need a Donkey Kong game
One apparently exists in Japan. We have two reputable members who say it exists. I think the vibe is currently leaning more towards release next year, but we could see it in this or the next Direct potentially.

Yeah, Bayonetta 3 has core excitement in its favour but it's a niche prestige title. Sunbreak and Kirby were the biggest things Nintendo had for that Direct. Both were critically acclaimed and both sold over 5 million units.

The important point is that Nintendo don't necessarily close or open on popular titles, and it's genuinely difficult to guess at what they'll use. February 2022 opened and closed on relatively niche titles, even if they were from established franchises. The last Direct opened with Pikmin 4, which has traditionally been a relatively niche series (here's hoping it breaks out more next time around).
