So far it seems like some locks/highly likely direct games are:

  • New 2D Mario
  • Pokemon something (Detective Pikachu 2?)
  • Either Chrono Trigger or Mario RPG remake.
  • New Pikmin 4 trailer
  • Persona 3 Remake
  • A long tired sigh from all 84 Metroid fans around the world

Did I miss anything?

Alright, had 3 seperate dreams last night that nintendo 1: announced a super nintendo direct, 2: announced a September direct ( even though it's june), 3: decided to troll everybody 1 hr before the announcement by posting a bunch of pics on Twitter of my little pony in totk... I don't know what the f*** is going on anymore what happened to me lol.

Going to make a random prediction on the 2D Mario.

It will be called Super Mario Bros. Switched. The mechanic will be you can switch between characters (Mario, Luigi, Peach, and then either Toad or someone else) on the fly.

Looks pretty good. I think something SMT was possibly said to be there? F-Zero GX has a possibility of showing up. I don’t see TTYD HD, if real, showing up with SMRPG remake coming.

Heck yeah I was guessing Super Mario Wonderland. I like a name like that.
I really wonder if they would be that on the nose about something like that.

Like Mario's always had a few "Alice in Wonderland" references as it is, thanks to the mushrooms, magical realms, magical things that make you bigger/smaller and such!

Normally I'd say "too many first party games", but we're also in an odd situation where nothing is announced past Pikmin 4, so a direct with a larger first party line up might be feasible.

@Raccoon finally excited again for a Direct after years and then seeing that Super Mario Bros. Wonderland is probably close to the name of the new 2D Mario game:

Metroid Prime 4 or bust. We just have to see something about it, anything, otherwise I will be highly concerned about the game. I do think enough time has passed and with the shadow drop of Prime Remastered, now is the time to show us Prime 4. If Nintendo can drop a trailer for TOTK years before proper release, they can drop a trailer for Prime 4 now whether it comes this year, next year or 2025.

You know what drives me nuts? When YTers/journalists say “so we can expect SOMETHING. I think it’s happening, be it a general, a mini or a partner direct.” Man, these are such different things. I really can’t understand how people can see these as similarly. Minis are nice. Partners are fine. General Directs are where the magic happens though.

It was a sequel they announced I believe in mid 2018. I think it was mid 2018 I can’t quite remember.
If I remember correctly I don't think they ever said "DP2" but just "Detective Pikachu for Switch". I however doubt that it could take this long for a Detective Pikachu port to come over, so I'm leaning on the sequel side.

Numerous Switch era Directs have had 4 to 6 new first party titles announced plus updates for existing titles. It'd make sense after February's lack of new Nintendo titles (just Metroid Prime R), and as you say with the second half mostly empty, for this one to be on the higher side of Nintendo announcements.

I won’t be concerned about the game if it doesn’t show. I think it’s just the unique situation it’s in.

When has any other Nintendo game had a publicly announced restarting of development? Nintendo doesn’t want to show this game again until a concrete release date is available.

I have full faith in Retro, but almost no faith that we’ll see the game in this Direct.

"The lack of new annoumcents means the switch 2 is about to come out!"

Get ready to hear variations of this line alot

I would be pretty sad if that were the case, Metroid is what I've been looking forward to most of all out of all the upcoming releases. Just give me a glimpse, just a glimpse, don't Silksong me Nintendo! :(

I don’t think you should be concerned about the game. From the talks on Retro’s profile things are going good there and they love working there. To me it’s just when Nintendo is ready to show it and it might not be now.

Outside of the times (usually at e3) where Journalist got to see the direct and go hands on before the public date, they're as in the dark as we are. If they've heard from sources "Nintendo is having some kind of direct soon, indie game a, small third party title b, and late port c will be featured", and they can't get any info about first party titles, assuming a mini or a partner isn't an unreasonable conclusion, especially if they've been able to get more info on first party stuff in the past.

Now we know what assuming does, but I'm not faulting the reasoning of people like Brazil for coming to that conclusion. The perspective of normies like us on the outside is different from people who have a bit more inside info, which might have made then miss the forest for the trees in this situation.

I’m right there with you. Metroid, and specifically Prime mean the world to me. The past 6 years have been agony. Dread and Prime Remastered helped a lot, but Prime 4 is my Half Life 3.

I had a dream last night that Nintendo just didn't announce a Direct. That was literally the entire dream.

A few weeks ago I had a dream about an open world Metroid Prime game set on Zebes pre-Zero Mission. That was an interesting one.

It’s nice to see which insiders get what info. You see some get first party info. Many only get third party info. Necro heard of first party games so I’ll definitely pay attention to him more in the future if he said he didn’t hear about first party games.

Correct me if I’m wrong but here’s what I’ve got so far:

• New 2D Mario
• Remake of a SNES game, jury’s out on whether it’s Mario RPG or Chrono Trigger (it’s Plok)
• Something Pokémon related
• Mario Kart Wave 5
• Pikmin 4 (come on)
• Atlus screwed up big time
• Prime 4 hopers crying in the club
• Thousand Year Door? Are we still hearing about that?
• The stars will align and we will get a Kirby related announcement for the fifth Direct in a row

Doubtful that TYD will show if MRPG get announced.

Seems like a one or the other type deal.

Kirby was just someone trolling from what I gathered.

Pyoro was liking posts about the name Super Mario Bros. Wonder or Super Mario Bros Wonderland.
Still hoping its something more like "The Wonderful Super Mario Bros.", instead of Wonderland. But honestly anything with "Wonder" in the name sounds really solid and way better than the "New" naming scheme.
