Why is there a talk about price cuts all of the sudden?
Felipe says there's cool Switch news today, unrelated to a Direct.

Raccoon then activated sleuth brain, and realised Nate's phrasing on Twitter might point to something being discounted: "June cannot be discounted".

Nintendo Selects
20€

Mario Odyssey
Arms
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Mario Tennis Aces
Kirby Star Allies
Luigi's Mansion 3
Super Mario Maker 2
Yoshi's Crafted World
Astral Chain
Paper Mario: The Origami King
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

You know, i wouldn't mind Selects if it means the port of the first Hyrule Warriors would become available in retail (at normal prices) again.

I missed it back then and kinda want it to have the "full" set.

smash will never be 20 bucks, license cost and all
if selects do exist I would guess 29.99 minimum, considering cart manufacturing cost

Still don’t see a Nintendo Selects line in a time where Eshop Sales are a thing and more profitable for Nintendo as well as getting more people into their digital ecosystem.
A Switch price cut may be possible. But I’m not really convinced now would be the time for that. Sales have been up across regions on the heels of Zelda. Closer to the holidays would make more sense.

I think a Nintendo Selects line is more likely than a general price cut for the current console models, but we'll see what's in store today.

Nintendo Selects are actually fried chicken snacks in the shape of select Nintendo characters

Plant based alternatives will be available, including Petey Piranha and Hyrule Herb

Please understand

I don't see a console price cut when they are still selling Zelda's switch OLED. Maybe before Christmas, but now it would be weird. I can be wrong of course.

Yeah, it was my guess Square once again dominating Direct. Those people love AA development and AA games love Switch.

Btw, that's the Japanese Logo for the original game on PS1. It isn't the modern logo they used in the recent entry. Western version of Second Story R also uses the same logo:

I've decided it's Nintendo Selects because:

hardware price cut:
pros:
might boost sales and help Nintendo hit their 15 million target
might drive engagement by getting owners of older models to upgrade to OLED and then said upgraded owners buy dozens of games with colours that POP

cons:
doesn't benefit me personally
cuts into projected revenue and profit
reassures the Switch Old crowd that the device is already dead and needs to be taken out back and finished off for good and that no new games should ever launch on it even if it takes another 18 months for a successor to arrive

Nintendo Selects:
pros: sounds sexy, like you're a select member of a club
Captain Toad will definitely be in the range
boosts engagement among the huge userbase by driving sales of legacy titles that no longer sell meaningful amounts; this also boosts revenue and profit
everybody can engage in their favourite hobby: backlog boosting
makes Everybody 1-2 Switch look less like a discount wet fart and more like a normally priced game

cons: Switch Old crowd will see this as confirmation no new games are planned and that it's time to send old faithful to The Farm
My issue with Nintendo selects is that I think they want people to nove away from buying physical.
So they would probably do it digital only.
Didn't they kinda do that already?
Or am I just misremebering in the sea of discounts some of the games had over the years.

Imagine Nintendo Selects but they're eShop only and only for NSO subscribers

You're welcome

As much as I'd love to see Nintendo Selects make a comeback, I do agree that they probably don't make a lot of sense from a business standpoint when they want people to spend their money in the eshop.

A digital Nintendo Selects permanent price drop for Mario tennis, Kirby Allies, Yoshi seems a plausibile scenairo

I feel like they've announced the beginning of a Player's Choice/Nintendo Selects line in a Direct before, but that was back in the early Wii U/3DS days so it might not mean anything if they would announce that separately these days.

A Switch price cut would certainly not be announced in a Direct.

Oh... MY. GOD.

Star Ocean : The Second Story on PS1 is one of my favorite RPG.
The ending theme, "We Form in Crystals" even helped me to imagine the ending of one of my book ^^;

This song is both sad yet hopeful. I love when the choirs part, it feels like something you lost despite your best efforts, something that couldn't be saved or spared.

I was so angry when I finished the PSP remaster, "Second Evolution" : they replaced this beautiful theme by a very generic J-Pop song.

The PSP Remaster also changed the way the inventory works and wasn't as helpful as the PS1 version. They also changed the final boss "Earthquake" magic that could 9999 your entire team (since there's no equipment that protects from Earth damage and it goes through your DEF) by a new one that... also can wipeout your entire team.

The logo being named "The Second Story R" and not "Second Evolution" gives me hope that this won't feature the JPOP replacement of Motoï Sakuraba's masterpiece.

I wouldn't expect any price cuts, given the strength of Switch hardware sales since the ZOLED launch and because of inflation, as mentioned in their last financials.

At least not for the hybrid models.

Software is entirely possible tho, we'll see whether this is it.

I feel people are reading too much into that tweet, but it’s also a fun announcement I’d love to see sooner than later and it’s fun to dream so sure why not?

True Nintendo Direct Speculation enjoyers would see this tweet by Nate and discuss whether it means Nate knows the answer to the question "where is the Nintendo Direct?" or Nate doesn't give a damn

Random prediction for early 2024 filler:

All Stars! New Super Mario Bros.
Relieve the classic New Super Mario Bros, New Super Mario Bros Wii and New Super Mario Bros 2, now with HD visuals (NSMBU engine). All DS mini games have been remastered with online play.

Good morning to everyone who isn’t on Team June! And a special good morning to everyone else.

What’s the vibes today! We thinking something about a discount or something?

People doubted me, they were literally laughtning to us. They said either am wrong or insiders are wrong. And here we are, just a week from Direct.
I promised days ago that I will lead team June to victory no matter what. My promise will be fullfilled in just few days.
