PlayStation PlayStation Showcase announced (May 24th, 1 PM PDT / 9 PM BST)

I want to say mh6 will be announced here but world and rise had a decent amount of rumors and leaks before being announced and mh6 has Jack shit of both right now, so I kinda doubt it

P3 Remake won't be here, Atlus will probably do a Persona focused event since they have 5 Arena and 6 in the wings as well. If Atlus shows up, it'll probably be for Project Re:Fantasy.

Only JRPG I expect to see is FFVII Rebirth

With Armored Core releasing in August and Elden Ring DLC still in the works, I feel like From is kind of busy at the moment. Don't think we'll see their next big game for a while yet.
At certain point they were doing ER and Sekiro at the same time. Plus, their Sony exclusives have a lot more resources and help than their third party games.

I want to believe.

September 2021, so a year and a half ago. There's been State of Plays since then but nothing major; I think Sony just wasn't ready to announce or show off most of their stuff last year, and so focused on closer titles like Horizon and God of War.
Has it been that long? Wow!

This’ll be the first showcase since I’ve had a playstation, that’s pretty cool.

Some things I'd love to see:

Pragmata gameplay with date
Dragon's Dogma 2 gameplay
Nier 3 reveal
Persona 3 remake
Sony Bend's New IP
Spider-Man 2 September date
The Last of Us Part II Director's Cut
Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater remake
Silent Hill 2 remake release date

We should add a poll asking what percentage of games shown will be CG trailers and what will be gameplay? I expect maybe 15% in engine stuff.

Eh... Sony's historically been really good with making sure trailers are at least in-engine. CGI trailers do happen but they're rare, and usually teasing games that are far away (see Insomniac's Wolverine). There's no need for a poll like that.

I hope for some surprises, like some meatier Death Stranding 2 info and maybe one or two game we know nothing about. And Spidey2 and FF7-2. Please.

Yeah. I guess they do a lot of in engine. Probably should have said gameplay rather than trailers. Was more of a joke idea anyway. Let’s hope it is more fleshed out announcements rather than teasers though.

Hope this includes the Konami stuff then. Mainly curious about Castlevania.
Same. A Metal Gear remake is one of those things that's bound to happen, but I really wanna see what's going to happen to Castlevania.

All I need to see

Spiderman 2
Rumored Twisted Metal
More Stellar Blade

Everything else is cake. I would be interested in the next Team Asobi game but I'm inclined to believe it will be another PSVR2 game.

Really hoping to get a peek at whatever Cory Barlog has been working on since God of War 2018 but I feel that may be a ways off. Spiderman and The Last of Us Factions are exciting of course, but I'm curious to see what surprises they have.

If Nintendo does a June general direct (feels unlikely given last year) then the next month will give me basically everything I used to associate e3 with.

Anyway, hope we see Spider-Man or maybe Persona 3 remake!

Very much ready for this!

I guess this is where we'll see SIE's first GaaS push alongside their single player stuff (which is far from being de-prioritized). Personally I don't even know what I should be anticipating/expecting (outside of the obvious stuff like Spidey 2) so I'm all about being positively surprised.

I'm thirding/fourth-ing? a new Astro though!

More next gen JRPGs, please.
Yeah but who's making next-gen JRPGs outside of SE?

I guess Granblue Fantasy: Relink could show up? Cross-gen but visually it still packs a punch. Feels like a game that could totally be there while also having no chance of being featured at the same time.

If they could work Metal Gear Solid into this showing, it might bring a tear to my eye.

Expecting a good one - though between Resident Evil 4, SF6, Final Fantasy 16 and Spider-Man 2, I think they’ve got a good year in the books regardless.

Humanity released the other day to strong reviews, they finally got Monster Hunter Rise on PS5 and the future looks bright.

And this comes after Forbidden West and Ragnarok smashed it last year. Not to mention FF7R waiting in the wings for early next year.

I’m not here to be a cheerleader for Sony, but I do think they’ve been quietly going about their business, delivering for a number of years now.

Mikes Morales, Demon’s Souls, Returnal, Rift Apart… Sony’s games might not be for everyone, but it’s all quality stuff.

They even took a big bet on PSVR2. I don’t think it’ll work out for them but we should applaud them for investing in it.

Astro Bot Rescue Mission is easily one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had in gaming in the... cough… decades I’ve been playing.

It’s strange because in many ways, it doesn’t feel like ‘next-gen‘ has started, but the library is going from strength-to-strength.

All that said, I think this will be a meaty showing that lays out the future of the platform for the next couple of years.

It’s also the only platform holder with Genshin Impact - which I’ve sunk 1,000 hours into, so they’ve got that going for them!

had a feeling this was coming soon between the EU news and the Zelda sales. let's see what Sony can do to recover
...recover? Are you suggesting they announced the showcase because of the success of Zelda and the "EU news" (whatever that is?)

You realise that this was leaked a month back by Jeff Grubb and these things are planned months in advance right?

Finally oh my god. I cannot believe how long it has been since the last time they did one of these, wasn't it like still around the time we were believing that 'BotW2' would release in 2022? Like I said oh my god if my memory is correct, the quality of the recent State of Plays has not helped either.

But we're here now and that's the good thing. No excuses for this one, I think Sony know what is expected and that it'll be a good one, though I'm also not expecting too much from their developers this year at least, partly why I think this has taken so long. Not expecting much more than Spider-Man to release this year which isn't great but I'm really looking forward to that one.

Also PSVR2 confirmed as well, I wonder how many full games there will be for it, probably not many.

FInally! the first footage of Metroid Prime 4 is just few days away!

Can't wait for some goo ol' Japanese AAA exclusive goodness

He is making a game for Epic, why would it be at a Sony Showcase.
Published by Epic, it's also gonna be on PS. Tim doesn't do exclusives against consoles. Hell, even Sony might have made a deal with Epic with console exclusivity for the game.

I assume there will be a substantial XVI section, despite the fact that fans mostly want to see unseen games. It needs a marketing boost.

The last XVI SOP bombed completely under the shadow of the TotK trailer, based on YouTube metrics in the major markets (e.g. US, Japan).

If Epic are publishing it then there is zero chance it's getting revealed at a Sony showcase.

FFXVI's SoP "bombed completely" because it did less well than a TOTK trailer on youtube? What?

I'd be shocked if FFXVI was even at this event, nevermind a "substantial" section. It has plenty of marketing, has plenty of hype and will sell well. This completely random TOTK vs FFXVI narrative is just bizarre.

FFXVI's SoP "bombed completely" because it did less well than a TOTK trailer on youtube? What?

It's not random. I compared them directly because someone made the poor decision to release it in the same 24-hour period - which matters a lot with how social media algorithms work nowadays.

For example, while the TotK trailer was trending #1 overall in the U.S. region, alongside a ton of pointless TotK trailer reaction videos - the FFXVI SOP failed to trend overall at all. It did not even make the Top #25 of the Gaming sub-section & was pushed underneath the TotK reaction videos, Roblox shorts & Fortnite compilations.

As this was a one-off showcase, they could have picked any day they wanted. Had they simply released it the day after, it would have gotten more eyeballs & clicks by virtue of the YouTube algorithm.

Same story for the Japanese region, which was not as surprising as it's still tracking for a steep decline in launch sales numbers.

Now with the TotK regional sales numbers mostly out, it was not surprising to see regions where the trailer trended the highest had the most extreme comparative sales boosts. Timing & numbers matter.

Hopefully we get more PC dates since they tend to drop them in these. Ghost of Tsuhima and TLOU Part 2 would be good surprises.

Very much looking forward to this, the PS5 is a great (albeit huge and ugly) machine, I'm sure a big chunk of the hour will be VR and FF but I'm excited nonetheless!

As someone who's PS5 has been a PS4 Pro Pro, I'm really hoping we get some good stuff. Their big events were usually pretty good but it's been so long since the last one

I want a full Astrobot 3D platformer, Astro's Playroom is so good.
That would honestly likely be my favorite PS5 / next gen only game until possibly the inevitable Persona 6

Less excited for this than I would’ve been a year ago. I dunno, there just isn’t really anything on the docket besides Insomniac’s output that really has me excited for PS5 at the moment. Might simply be due to nothing being officially announced yet, but the rumored stuff doesn’t seem to be up my alley that much. Could also be the mixed feeling from the last PS5 showcase in 2021 still carrying over.

Should be a good event regardless, hope I’m wrong and it blows me away like their 2020 showcases did.

I'm excited mostly because it's getting close to time-ish for Sucker Punch to show something, likely a Ghost of Tsushima sequel. They are my favorite Sony first party and GoT was my favorite PS4 game, so whatever's next from them will be at the top of my list.

Insomniac is my other favorite and will obviously have a lot of Spider-Man 2 to show, that will be exciting.

Hoping they don't spend too much time on VR or Last of Us Multiplayer game, none of which interests me.

I think their "one more thing" type reveal at the end will either be Santa Monica new IP from Cory Barlog, Uncharted reboot / sequel from a new developer, or tease of Bungie new game.

I’ll be keeping an eye on the headlines but I don’t have a good reason to watch the whole thing. Newest PS system in my place is a PS3 😅

I'm hoping for a bunch of new stuff, already has been confirmed that there will be a good bit of indie stuff there so I'm looking forward to seeing a new Sifu, Kena etc.
