Previews The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom | Preview Thread

Sorry if this is everywhere all over the thread, but I don't want to read or see anything, just the obvious... Dungeons yay or nay?
May(be)

But the previews don't give any indication either way

not seen in the footage but yay, some said they saw a dungeon entrance but weren't allowed inside
Probably a shrine, tbh. It was the objective of the second part of the demo and the situation is pretty similar to the shrines in BoTW that you summoned by using Sheikah orbs

Just based on every previous Zelda game, there are no reasons to think there aren't dungeons. We've seen multiple in previous trailers, in all likelihood.

However, there are two areas that were off-limits and we have no idea whether they are just destinations or actual dungeons.

The big structure on the starting island is the "Temple of Time", and there's also the weirdly shaped building that seemingly holds the Hyrule map room.

You were spot on.

Glad to see this got added. Though looks like there's some more.. superfluous abilities?

Autobuild, and map? seems like autobuild should just be a function of ultrahand, I'm sure theres a button they could have used. But map? what could that be that needs to be an ability?

I'm wondering if the radius will expand as you gain abilities. I'd hope so, it would be a shame if we only have one other ability to get.

A handcrafted gauntlet like Trial of the Sword would be so good with the new mechanics.

Please don't leave it for DLC Nintendo :(

We don't really need cryonis anymore, the function is served by the vehicles now. It's kinda hilarious how the BOTW runes are completely irrelevant now.

Yeah, it does make it feel like I’m less likely to ever replay BOTW though, this seems to just expand on every aspect.

I see that Gamespot's footage has some gameplay at about 3am, and there's already light from the sun just rising on the islands. I wonder if nighttime footage was embargoed? It's making me think that there might be some sort of Ganondorf Power Hour each night, like a blood moon hour every time the clock strikes midnight.

How is it near defunct?? Sure, not nearly as many games use it as much as they should, but it’s still a core feature of the system and plenty of games do use it. Also it’s not only applicable to Joy-Con—the Pro Controller supports it, too. The only controllers that don’t are the retro NSO controllers and third-party controllers.

I’d think it would be a bigger deal to people because back at the launch of the Switch, the omission of one of the system’s coolest new features was nowhere to be found in the biggest launch title. I would’ve thought that that alone would have made the inclusion of HD Rumble in BotW’s sequel be a much desired thing, especially because back then I couldn’t stop thinking about how cool it would have been if BotW would’ve supported it, but I guess not many others feel the same, sadly…
HD Rumble, while admittedly very neat when implemented well, is extremely subtle to the point of being indistinguishable from regular rumble on the Pro Controller (which I assume these previews were using) and isn't really the kind of thing that sells a game to the vast majority of people compared to gameplay mechanics, graphics, etc. So I wouldn't be surprised if most of the people at this preview event weren't really paying that much attention to it in their short timeslot.

I thought I would cancel my physical preorder just to buy a digital copy from japanese eShop to play it roughly day before due to timezones but I resisted.

But heads up, if you are planning to buy digital copy and want to save few bucks the version on JP eShop costs roughly $60 when converted + you will play it sooner.
how hard is it buying something from a different region? never done it before

Not sure how some are concluding that there are two Temples Of Time. The writing is faded on that map screenshot, which surely alludes to the player being at altitude, and the temple down below. It would be very difficult to show the entire world's topography on one map, when there are areas directly above some parts. Also, the left and right scrolls are a giveaway, tbqh.

What? The Temple of Time is on the Great Sky Island, which isn't even close to the Great Plateau. It's the big building.

Can’t find the screenshot but I saw the sky and land are two different maps completely that you switch between

Guess it’s just us; no one else seems to care, including the people who got to play the game for the previews, otherwise there’d be an answer by now… 😔

Oh hey, I saw your first post about HD Rumble earlier and I asked Gene Park during his brief Q&A stream. Here's what he said:

I have seen the screenshot, but not watched the videos, as I hope to go in knowing as little as possible. It seemed like a reasonable deduction to make based on that alone.

Bit mixed on the UI. There are aspects I love (translucent design, Zonai zen garden motif, maintaining a minimalist look while adding those details), and others I don't (excessive italicization, the way the white border over the inventory page makes it look like a computer interface's window lol).

I think replacing the inventory menu's page tabbing system with a scroll bar is an improvement.

The addition of character profiles is interesting. Makes me wonder if this game has an especially large cast of unique characters.

Developed by Monolithsoft. Yeah, different teams and all, but Monolith has had big character profiles & charts in a bunch of their games.

Man, the discussion about this game in various sites is going to be insufferable. I mean the previews are from the opening tutorial area and you have hundreds of people saying that it's disappointing that the focus of the game is crafting and not exploration. I mean the game has the same map as botw including sky islands and possibly underground areas, but apparently the exploration is non existent. Internet forums are a mistake.

“I didn’t really turn it on”—what?? It’s generally not something you “turn on” but rather something that’s enabled by default, and I’m not sure any games even give you an option to specifically disable HD Rumble, though you can disable controller vibration in general at a system level. It sounds as if this guy doesn’t really know what he’s talking about here?

Regardless, I appreciate you asking for me, thank you! Unfortunately this odd non-answer makes me worry that HD Rumble isn’t supported after all… =/

And here we are. Oops!

Try not to get to wound up about it. Just engage with those you would prefer to.

Nintendo: "I did not want to overwhelm you while your mind was still fragile, so I decided to make you believe the game was just DLC, forgive me. I think you are now ready, ready to see what we started working on, 6 years ago."

Guess we're getting 0 difficulty again due to infinite healing while paused.

Fucking mind-blowing that they kept this garbage design. So disappointed.
Guess you’re not aware you can not heal and play with 3 or 5 hearts. It has built in difficulty and you can decide how difficult it can be for you. Zelda has always been like this. Learn to engage with the games systems.

I’ve said it before but this game is going to be a perfect example of people criticizing it for what it isn’t instead of just evaluating what it is.

No problem! I was wondering the same. I feel it may not be either but...I'll remain hopeful.

A cool video with various ways to kill enemies. I really want to see Dunkey's video on it. His Botw video was legendary.
