Discussion Anyone else waiting to play TotK on Switch Redacted?

Side note, this is what the current gamer culture of chasing "The Best Experience ™️" does to people.
Games are expensive, i dont think theres anything wrong with wanting to experience them the best way possible. Its why i buy all 3rd party games on pc for example.

I get where op is coming from, i certainly dont think thats an unreasonable stance to have

i'm playing it the second it's available to play. i don't expect more powerful hardware to come anytime soon anyways so waiting around a year, maybe more to play my most anticipated game seems crazy to me.

If we have actual concrete news or very very well corroborated rumours of more powerful hardware before totk launches, I might consider waiting. If not then there's no chance I'm gonna wait for something that might not arrive until like 2025 at the latest.

Except you can verify that a PC version of a third party game is the best version.

This version of TOTK on a future Switch console is purely hypothetical. It does not exist.

It's like not watching a movie that comes out because you're waiting for the remastered 16K version in the future.

Cant wait till its out, it will be spoiled to hell and back around launch time, ant the latest 2 weeks later when the "hype" is over.
So since i dont want to cut myself of of the internet...
And looking at the trailers, it is a slight step up from BotW, and seems more stable than many other switch games.
Yeah, no, i will replay it on [REDACTED], but i will not wait half a year for my first run.
If it would be a month, it would probably be a different story.

Yes but not for the reason you may think. I'm not very enthusiastic about what they've shown so far and I believe that the inevitable DLC will be much meatier this time, making for a more compelling experience as a whole. As I believe that this DLC will release more or less alongside the new machine next year, I can wait.

There is just no way I would be patient enough to wait, but honestly I would rather play the game I'm super interested in sooner. If the game runs better on the next console, that's not a reason for me to wait a long time to play it. It's the same idea behind not waiting for FF16 to come to PC before playing it, even if it runs worse on PS5, I am not waiting that long to play a game I am interested in.

Why would I want to do that

It's going to run and look nicely on Switch, If I ever want to play it at higher fidelity on the succ I will do so

No because Nintendo will be Nintendo and their next system (let's assume it'll have backwards compatibility) will play Switch games in a "Switch mode" and it'll be the exact same damn game, performance and all.

I decided a while ago that I wasn’t buying Tears of the Kingdom on release day nor was I specifically waiting for the Switch successor, but if I delay long enough that a successor is close to launching, I might as well wait.

Not concerned about spoilers either. I rarely finish games in a timely manner so I’ll be kinder to my checking account and wait for a sale. I put Breath of the Wild down for a literal year so I saw a bunch of late game stuff.

I don't care if there was only a week difference. I am not waiting any longer than I have to for that game to come out. I've waited long enough.

Nah man, beyond what's already been said, life just has too many unknowns to do things like that.

You could die of some horrible disease, get run over by a car, go blind in some accident, slip and fall down a flight of stairs and come out a quadriplegic, be at ground zero of a new warzone, get shot by some maniac when you're just trying to buy groceries.

Enjoy shit you're excited for right away while you can, there's no guarantee you'll be able to tomorrow.

What age do graphics start being more important than fun imaginative gameplay? I'm a few years younger than you and I'm not looking forward to that
It is more like when you realise that you are not in fear of missing out, not feeling the hype. Add in becoming more patient with age and I think... Sure, why not wait? If I bought it day one, I'd be playing it on my daughters Switch Lite.

So, I would rather wait.

Nope lol, that's crazy to me.

You're better off emulating it after a month or two since that will be sooner than the next Switch hardware.

We don't even know when the next console is releasing and we've no reason to assume it would somehow boost the graphics of ToTK.

I am unlikely to get the next Nintendo console until a couple years out. I have so much of a backlog and a PS5. I can’t even imagine being able to come close to being ready to move to the next console by then. Plus they might have the better model at that point. I’m not a big graphics person (or even performance of it is decently stable which this game should be), so no need to wait this one out.

You've ruined my master plan!
I think the Master Plan should at least include waiting for reviews and especially seeing what Digital Foundry reports.

If people who are already accustomed to higher fidelity gaming on other platforms are indicating they are having a blast, I think its "safe" to just jump in and enjoy what Nintendo has gone over-budget (in both time and apparently resources) to produce.

All assuming you are or have been greatly anticipating the game, of course.

For me, my nephew will be on this game Day One/Second One. So decision is made for me! 🤠
I may well have waited otherwise despite being sufficiently hyped by that final trailer.

Edit: Was just in the "Saxual Content" thread watching the trailer again, the part where it really starts taking off, and thought: "Dam this looks fun". In light of that, even w/o nephew factor, I probably would have launched Day One after all

It's a game designed for the Nintendo Switch.

I'm gonna play on the Nintendo Switch.

I'm not waiting a year or more to play TotK or FFXVI for the potential for more powerful hardware to release sometime in 2024.

I don't have a switch yet. I don't know if I want to buy a 6 year old system, but man I really want to play totk

At the rate I’m breaking down in my late 30s, I’m not putting anything off.
Yeah I just turned 35 yesterday and I'm feeling this. I don't know if it's a premonition or midlife crisis or what but lately I've been feeling like I'm gonna die pretty young, and for whatever reason kinda made peace with it.

So I'm not putting off a potential GOAT for a few more p's and frames.

I wasn’t going that far, lol, but definitely noticing the recovery from muscle strains and simple illness is longer than usual. Just the way it is I guess. Do agree with making peace with things and living more in the moment though.

Yeah it wasn't directly related to what you said, it's just an odd feeling I've been having lately. I wanna make sure I do what I can now to enjoy life and make whatevs lasting impact I can on the world (the Mican Cinematic Universe will outlive me!) before it's too late.

Like, health wise I'm doing fine, I guess it's just the unrelenting march of time that has me realizing it's only a matter of, well, time. Either that or I'm secretly precognizent and gonna die in a freak accident soon.

Nah, I’m not waiting around for something that hasn’t been announced yet.
Exactly. I was actually very confused reading this thread, i was like "What, a new Switch version has been confirmed? WTF I'm old news" LOL

This kind of speculation has become in a wild (and frankly very annoying ) thing SMH.

My preorder is ready, the only thing I will wait is for some input if playing BOTW first is a must or i can just jump to Tears. I've been having trouble playing Breath and i don't think i will be able to complete before May 12th

Probably what Nintendo will do honestly. No Current Gen updates for Last Gen games and make you buy the “Deluxe” version.
Oh yeah, definitely lol. I figured there would be DLC that would be packed into a Deluxe version but a little surprised they haven't announced anything considering they typically announce DLC before the game comes out lmao.

Yes, exploration heavy games like these have a proportionally more enjoyable first playthrough than most other games, may as well wait for a potential better experience.

I'm no stranger to waiting to play a game (usually for price reasons) but waiting for a console that hasn't been announced yet (but which in various forms has been rumoured for years) which may or may not improve the game isn't something I'm going to do.

I 100% do not expect actual patches but I do hope the next Switch is able to run games in a boost mode which achieves their max dynamic resolutions and without frame drops from 30/60fps.

Very sensible post, thanks.
