🚨 PIKMINS ACQUIRED 🚨

Is Animal Crossing: Wild World on Wii U worthwhile? I've of course played it before, but the price has me on the fence. Is it on 3DS?
Only on Wii U. You could get a DS copy, but something’s need WiFi and other villages to complete I think. They edited the code so that Nookington’s is available without visiting other towns since that’s impossible. I think competing some sets is impossible on Wii U though.

It's not digital on 3DS and there's a small but large enough that it's worth mentioning chance this is the last time it ever gets released.

It's also pretty cheap to just get the DS game card though. However, if you do that, there's a massive caveat, you need a friend to visit your village and buy something from nooks to get the last store upgrade, which is much easier said than done since the Wifi support went down a long time ago.. The Wii U version removed that requirement.

Almost one week left, will have to figure out what my last purchases will be. Will make a post about what I’ll grab/what I’m on the fence on

Before I do though, question about the Wii U’s external storage. I got an external hard drive from like 2013, it has a couple files in it. Can I just plug it on my Wii U and download the games I buy from the eshop on it or does the external storage needs to be completely formatted? I guess I could just try it out and redownload the few games I uninstalled back when I bought RE4 and Zack & Wiki on deep sale but just wanted to know, since you can’t buy games when you don’t have the space

I think you will need to format. You will probably need it to be externally powered as well. I have a dual usb cord so I can use two usb connections on the Wii U for this.

When will they finally SMTIVA up for sale in Europe?!

Well the few last minute things to scoop on 3DS and Wii U have been sorted and installed. I had to delete a couple of digital games to reinstall Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Wii U internal storage because my flash drive wasn't working properly with it.

Which external hard drive solutions are you all using for the Wii U in particular? Both vanilla and homebrewed for backups.

I‘m using a samsung 500GB SSD with a powered USB hub because I read somewhere a few years ago that a Y USB adapter doesn‘t guarantee to deliver enough power, becuase something like both USB ports on the back of the Wii U are on the same lane internally or something like that. But I have no idea about such things so I decided for a powered hub to be on the safe side. Before that I used a big HDD also with its own power supply, but I didn‘t liked how big and noisy it was so I switched to the SSD

So, I just learned that it's not possible anymore to buy OR download the DLC for Mario Golf World Tour with European copies of the game. There seems to be an issue with the server that's apparently going on for at least a month and Nintendo hasn't fixed it yet. I assume they will fix it, so that those who have already bought the DLC can redownload it. The question is, if they will do it before the eshop closes and with only one week left, I kinda doubt they will. What the fuck, Nintendo. -.-

Good to know. I thought about buying world tour but now I‘m not sure anymore

I got everything I wanted from the eshops a long time ago. the only games I’m tempted by are Mario 64 DS and Metroid Prime Hunters. But those are both readily available on ebay for original carts and I don’t think I’ll bother. i’ll admit, all the talk about it has got me feeling some fomo though.

There was one they gave away as a Club Nintendo reward (Wario Ware Touched). It's the only one, because it is actually tiny and DS games can only be booted from the small amount of internal memory the 3DS has.
I knew someone would point out WarioWare lol

Sorry 🤪

EDIT: Are the Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice Theater episodes worth it? How much content do they offer and is there any gameplay or only text?

Just to clarify before I drop some money on last-minute purchases, if I put money onto my Nintendo Account via an eShop voucher, it'll be usable on my 3DS? I've got both accounts linked together so that's not an issue there.

Yeah I can confirm an external HDD that uses a Y usb cable setup doesn't provide enough power, I tried it recently 😅

I may go the SSD route though since I have a spare NVMe SSD lying around. Thanks,

Don’t forget Advance Wars Days of Ruin in Japan! That was the only official release in that region strangely enough.

Yeah, it's getting to be crunch time and I hate how little is on sale and how I'm probably going to spend like $70 by the end of the week trying to clear out some stuff on the list.

I'll almost certainly be getting:
  • Pokemon Crystal (Pretty much just to have a legit Celebi and not mess around with everything else Nintendo forces for one)
  • All the 3DS Phoenix Wright games - At $3 a pop, getting all 4 just feels right to finally try the series and I know 3 are still exclusive here
  • Pushmo World - It's basically the one Wii U download game I want
  • Mario Golf World Tour DLC - I love this game and never bought the DLC, feel a serious obligation to finish it's content off and cherish it.
  • Rhythm Heaven Megamix (It's between this and Fever I guess, and this has been traditionally the one people LOVE from what I can tell)
  • Chibi-Robo Photo Finder - Yeah, I'm a really dumb Chibi-Robo fan and REALLY want this one for some reason
  • Dragon Quest Wars - The one weird DSiWare game left I have a real interest in.
Still on the fence/deciding about (super open to input here and if somebody sees something that they're like YOU'RE WRONG, please chime in):
  • Pushmo, Crashmo, and Stretchmo - I kind of figured I would get Pushmo World and leave it at that regardless of how good these are, but I'm maybe most on the fence with these.
  • Affordable Space Adventures - I know it's super unique, but $20 is a lot and I was REALLY hoping this would go on sale.
  • Art Academy Wii U - Really just wanted it for the novelty, but $30 is a super expensive novelty.
  • The Guild Games - Liberation Maiden, Weapon Shop de Omasse, Aeroporter, Attack of the Friday Monsters - Bunch of really neat games but like, they add up real quick.
  • Dillion 1 - Seems like a fine neat game, but not a huge priority type thing to me.
  • Rusty's Baseball (The rest of it) - Seems like a super charming game, but like, is this REALLY that big of a priority.
  • New Super Mario Bros. 2 DLC - Seems expensive for not a lot and just more NSMB content.
  • Devil's Third - Yes, this is one I kind of legit want, but it's $30 for a curiosity at best. And like I know physical copies go for $400 or whatever, but still, not sold on just picking this up on a whim.
  • Shovel Knight 3DS - Is there ANY reason to pick this up on 3DS?
  • Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of the Sky - Just so expensive for a physical copy these days
  • Kirby Canvas Curse - Physical copies going for a bit much these days, but I'd prefer to have one
  • Dr. Luigi - Neat, but do I REALLY NEED another Dr. Mario? As in $15 NEED?
  • A bunch of Nintendo VC Games - Donkey Kong Land II and III (Fearful they won't come to NSO), DK64 (Still weirdly MIA on NSO), Harvest Moon SNES and 64 (Maybbbbbbbbe they'll get worked out in the US?), Bomberman 64 (Pretty please Konami maybe?), and Pandora's Tower
  • Game Gear VC Games - I doubt these honestly get re-released, but I'm still struggling to justify the purchase of them. Figured it would be Sonic Triple Trouble, GG Shinobi, and Tails Adventure if I did, but that's another $15
  • Moon Chronicles - Always wanted this on the original 3DS and I'm vaguely interested in this again

There's a rumor going around of SMTIV and IVA coming to modern platforms so maybe that's why Atlus is avoiding doing a sale. Would be a jerk move to make people buy them on the 3DS only to announce HD versions a few weeks later on their event.

As far as I can tell that 'rumour' has the same dubious source as a thread that already got locked on another rumour in the past few days. There's no conspiracy theories needed, they just aren't interested in having a sale, either because they don't care about the 3ds store any more or they think they can make more money from last minute sales without a discount.

It's not like there's a glut of other Sega published games on sale, which actually would suggest something is up with SMT4/4A

I got Tomodachi Life this morning and definitely don't regret it. It may not have a ton of sticking power but it's a fantastic little experience and I'm so happy to finally be playing it myself.

So I think I'm gonna buy all 4 Phoenix Wright games on the sale (I've played the original trilogy long ago but never the newer ones). That leaves $8 more to spend since I have to buy points $10 increments...suggestions? I was leaning toward Steamworld Heist as one possibility (also $3), though it'll always be available elsewhere.

My picks would be Pushmo, Attack of the Friday Monsters, or a Nintendo/Sega 3d classic games

There’s AA5&6 DLC cases, this will be my first time playing the games but from what I saw online, doing my own purchasing research, the Dual Destinies DLC seemed to be a very good case, it’s like $5.99 though so more than you paid for the base game

Yeah, I waas gonna ask if anyone in the know thought the Ace Attorney DLC cases were worth 6 bucks each. Seems like a lot when I got the whole series for like 8 bucks.

I liked Dual Destinies’s DLC case a lot. Spirit of Justice’s didn’t make much of an impression in comparison. If you got everything else, might as well snag it though.

I’m dumb. How do I add funds now?

Linking my account with the share wallet?

I didn’t realize all this was changing until now. Only have like 2-3 games I actually want to buy and figured I’ll do it now but I think I waited too long

You need to link your NNID (the Wii U and 3DS account system) with your Nintendo Account (the switch and webpage account system). Then funds for the NA account wallet can be used on the 3DS. So say you added money to the switch, you could use it on 3DS. The actusl 3DS native ability was closed last year. Link is below on how to do it. You can also buy 3DS games with a credit card form the Nintendo webpage. This is US, but assume other regions have directions.

Capcom's super deep discounts are getting me to spend about $15 more than I really intended lol.

I can't believe they are the only big publisher to take advantage as we go into this final week. And I can't believe how much you have to work to figure out what is good, what can even be bought, and what kinds of weird freebies and assorted things you need to access all these games at their best. A demo here to unlock another feature there, a transfer tool buried deeply in the shop, 5 hours of gameplay to unlock DLC options, good lord. Cumbersome on top of so little being discounted.

One question, is there ANY really essential Fire Emblem 3DS DLC? BESIDES REVELATION, I'm talking for Awakening, Fates, and Echoes with all the little DLCs that very quickly added up to a pretty expensive amount of random DLC. Is any of it really related to the stories of the games in a key way or like really essential to end game from a XP perspective or something? Looking online gives me very little real answer.

Spent the evening haggling with ol’ Rusty. Quite the charming little thing. Haggling was much less tense than I imagined, it’s pretty clear what to do next and when Rusty wont drop the price further. All told I think I spent around $12 to see the main story.

The actual mini-games have a lot of challenges in them, plus high score modes, so you get weirdly a lot of content in each. Not that any are so great I’m going to dump a load of time into completing them but they would’ve made a nice little palate cleanser back in the day.

Hope this isn’t the last we see of Rusty…

All 3 games have not quite expansions, but actual story quests in the DLC, yes. Serenes Forest is still the best resource for details on this stuff.

All 3 games have grinding dlc if that's a thing you're in to, though arguably only fire emblem fates conquest doesn't have other existing options for grinding in game without it.
As for story content:

In awakening, there's a short series of maps that take place on Lucina's bad future before her and the other child characters make it to he main timeline. It's 3 maps called 'The future past'. Otherwise, I think story content is minimal in these.

In fates, everything in map pack 2 is a story about the children characters again, and there are also a couple of maps (hidden truths) about how certain characters that greatly resemble certain units from fire emblem awakening were pulled to the world of fates by a divine being to assist the characters of fates.

Echoes has a few dlc maps that take place prior to the main story, as well as some story content starring characters from the spin off Japan only fire emblem card game, Cipher, of all things.

Anybody play Dillon’s Dead Heat Breakers? It’s probably the last pricy game I’ve been debating.
BUY THIS GAME THIS IS THE BEST 3DS GAME NOBODY HAS PLAYED

forget what you may or may not have heard about the first two Dillon games, this is a full-scale action game with incredible Mii integration, super polished and refined mechanics from the first two small-scale DL games and is super unique.

Hmph. Honestly this was the vibe I was getting from the demo. It was far more polished than the earlier games, I wasn’t expecting the Mii integration, and it looked like it had so much more going on. It just wasn’t clear if that “more” equaled good.

I can only say that Top 100 could be replaced by superstars on switch if you have one. Not sure the mini games overlap but it was a sort of “best of” as well. 3D Urban Champ might not be fun to play, but when will you get to see that perspective for this game? All the others I think are worthy of getting and the physical versions of some are probably very expensive now (probably not what you wanted to hear).

Yeah, don't bother with Top 100. It's a lackluster mini game compilation with no boards or any other content. Get Mario Party Superstars instead!

FE Echoes is the best FE on 3DS (and still super unique with the dungeon stuff)
Bye Bye Boxboy - all the boxboy games are incredible

Just fired up Pokémon Bank for the first time. Looks like you need a sub before you can even get to the menu option to download Transporter.

I saw that there is also a BoxBoy game on Switch. Is the Switch one better or as good as the 3DS ones, or do I miss something if I don't buy a 3DS one? If yes, which one is the best BoxBoy on 3DS? I'm ot sure if I want to buy all three

Honestly, they're pretty much all interchangable, including the switch game. The later 3 of the 4 games are basically just more puzzles and could easily have been dlc on the first game if they had so wished.

did you notice me saying all the boxboys

all the pushmos, all the boxboys

10/10 video games, all the way through. every one of them has its unique thing. some have demos. make sure to try them to see if you even like them, don't just blind buy because of fomo, though.

If you’re looking to try Pushmo the last game on 3DS is free to start, takes about 20 minutes tops to play through the free part and then unlock the rest of the game. Good way to sample the franchise.

Other fun puzzle games by long-time Nintendo partners were released on DSiWare.

Intelligent Systems
  • Spotto! aka Bird & Bombs, lovely art and OST
  • Link 'n' Launch
Q-Games
  • X-Scape aka 3D Space Tank, sequel of "X" for the Game Boy with Star Fox 1-esque graphics. (Not a puzzle game, but still)
  • Trajectile aka Reflect Missile
  • Starship Defense aka Starship Patrol
  • Art Style: DIGIDRIVE
skip
All the other Art Style games, including the fan-favorite Pictobits.

The two IntSys games are intuitive, and Spotto is too cute.

Q-Games ones have a more complex gameplay. The Art Style games from skip are their own thing, with simple rules, an abstract esthetic and deep gameplay.

Some videos for your last week viewing pleasure. Some are old so titles might be on other platforms at this point (the second video is actually an exhaustive playlist of all things eshop. Pretty in-depth:

I have all Pushmos on 3DS. Still not sure of I will buy the one for Wii U.
Never played a BoxBoy and I don't think I want to buy all because I could use the money for Pokemon Omega Ruby, or Mario Golf. Maybe I just buy the Switch game if it isn't that different.
