Eh, I don't think they've talked about a transition except when explicitly asked about it. When they've just been asked about new hardware generally, they've basically said what Doug Bowser has here, that there's nothing to announce, Switch is still doing great, etc., etc.
The only notable thing about the comment is re-iterating the "uncharted territory" point, which didn't get a particularly positive reaction from investors or analysts when Furukawa used it. My guess is that Nintendo have chosen that phrasing partly as an excuse for coming in under estimates last quarter, and also to try to soften the blow of the inevitable big drop in sales they'll have in their FY24 estimates. There's only so far you can push the "our hardware doesn't usually stick around this long" excuse, though, and at a certain point you have to show investors you actually have a plan to reverse the decline, the only viable one being to release new hardware.
