StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (New Staff Post, Please read)

Just to look at some of the potential signs

  • Nintendo skipping E3 as the timing of the event doesn’t match up to their plans
  • Nintendo has no games dated past July

These feel like signs that they have something planned to be announced later this year. These ‘leaks’ also seem to back that idea up.

Yes, I know, but... It wouldn't make sense to say winter before the end of the year, because it would be just 10 days 🤣

"Winter 2023" means the winter that starts on 21/12/2023 and ends on 20/03/2024
As I said, seasons are meaningless! Meteorological Winter starts on December 1st! Irish Winter starts on November 1st! Celebrate Halloween? Well done, you're celebrating the Celtic Festival Samhain that makes the start of winter!

In Irish, we don't even have a word for October, we use the phrase "Deireadh Fómhair", which means "Autumn's End". Hard for me, personally, to justify calling November "Autumn" when in Irish, October is Autumn's end, the November is Mí Samhain, the Month of the Festival Of Winter!

Meteorological Winter is observed here, by the meteorological service.

And TPCI has an office here!

Pokémon has an office in one of each of the countries which differ in their seasonal systems, excluding equatorial countries which don't observe seasons (for obvious reasons) but rather meteorological events (rainy, hot, dry, etc.)

I'm not saying you're WRONG, because you're right! It's just that seasons don't mean much, and even Nintendo either doesn't care, or just chooses the seasonal system that suits them. According to Nintendo, Inkopolis launches in Spring, on the 28th of February 2023. Splatoon 3 launched in Summer... In September!

😂

I think it makes no sense to announce "Winter 2023" and launch in January or February 2024, it would be easier to say "early next year", most likely this DLC should come out in November, as basically gamefreak does with Pokémon every year.

I'm convinced it's September through October this year, just like every other Switch console release window, excluding the original's extenuating circumstances.
Switch 2 in October with a new 3D Mario, Poke SV DLC in November and Mario Kart in December.

It’s the same every year. We don’t know a lot for the future, line-up seems kinda barren, communication is low, insiders are saying we should not expect much…….

And then people on here think this is a reason to expect a new Switch model, new 3D Mario and Mario Kart, which is the exact opposite of what’s currently the perspective.

I r programer

here are details on pokemon which are coincidentally identical in scope to the new marketing info under nda,

oh and i'm patching it for switch 2
Yeah exactly. Timing, content...it was someone thar had the press kit.
Heck, if there would have been a trailer and he mentioned something that was not obvious from the pictures, sure, but as is...

I didn't watch the Presents (not a Pokemon player) but this was my thought. Is there anything here that is a detail not in the presents? Or, is this vague in places that the Presents was vague and specific where the Presents is specific?

What is the "Hexagon" reference?

September IS summer (until 20) 😛

Afaik their references to the new version of Suicune and the other Pokémon were not present at all so those could have been development codenames?

the dlc logos are full of hexagons

The Japanese names for Paradox Suicune and Virizion are ウネルミナモ and テツノイサハ (Unerminamo and Tetsunoisaha) which the leak mentions.

The only thing the leak mentions that wasn't in the Pokémon Presents is a "Special Terastal appearance." It comes in the line right after "A Mystery Pokémon with a green mask" - so I was thinking that Terastal line was referring to Ogrepon (The Pokémon with a green mask) having a Terastal appearance different from the norm, but it might not specifically be referring to Ogrepon after all now that I've re-read it.

no. everything here was in the Direct. the hexagon probably refers to the new turtle or the area zero creature

If this is person is an outsourced programmer working on the expansions, you have to wonder why they didn't reveal anything that wasn't featured in the trailer this morning.

does anyone even have access to the press kit before the event? because those always come out afterwards

I repeat, the leak speaks about a terastal form that is not present on the trailer

Metropolitan (mainland) France is called the Hexagon, and the Kalos icon is an irregular hexagon in the Dex, and a regular hexagon in all other incarnations.

Waiting and seeing for now. The H2 date fits my own bias and prior guesses so I'm not impartial.
H2: Happening Again

I still think an April release could have worked, but, clearly it won't happen. As such, August to October. Like Lite, like OLED.

  • I think the leak is fake. The real info in it came 3 days in advance of a prerecorded Pokémon event which almost always leaks on 4chan in a similar manner, suggesting that relatively many people learn it in advance. All it takes is someone malicious to stir the pot by combining that with fake info. And the hardware info is not something someone at a Pokémon outsourcing company would even know, there's nothing that connects it to the info from the presentation, and everything about the way the post is written lacks credibility.
  • Setting aside the fact that it's fake, "winter 2023" definitely doesn't include January or February 2024.
  • However, I've seen people pointing out that "DLC2" doesn't necessarily mean wave 2 of the Area Zero DLC, it could mean a separate DLC ("Hexagon?") that would release in 2024.
  • But it's fake.

If his studio was the outsourcing studio tasked with handling the next gen patch, then knowing all this would make sense. Meanwhile, "Hexagon" and a terastal form not shown in the presents was used in the post. Moreover, the information given used a mix of the English (Hidden Treasure of Area Zero) and Japanese (Paradox Pokémon's names) names so I'm partial to thinking he didn't just see the trailer, or else he would have used either only the Japanese names, or only the English names.

@Pokemaniac filled me in that the "Hexagon" and DLC2 stuff definitely refers to The Indigo Disk and the design of Terapagos (although you can mostly see pentagons on it, not hexagons, lol). So if the leak were real, that would mean the new hardware is releasing this year. And that's what I already thought was happening! Unfortunately, I don't believe this rumor and won't take it as confirmation of that. Allowing for the possibility that my guesses are wrong is important too, and we don't have any solid proof yet.

The hexagon stuff:

To my knowledge, there is one specific detail here that remains unconfirmed (unless it's mentioned on the Japanese site somewhere, that sometimes has extra details): the post appears to claim that Ogerpon has a special appearance when Terastallized, similar to how Calyrex has a blue aura instead of a magenta one when Dynamaxed. (Un)fortunately, this is a detail that is likely to skip promotional material entirely unless there's a special mechanic tied to it. For Calyrex, it was just a cool easter egg.

The leak being true or not doesn't really change my personal speculation of late this year / H1 next year. I remain stubbornly adherent to the T239 and NVN2 data. It's a question of probabilities and balancing explanations.

It's possible that forward compatibility can be for much later than this year.

What with games taking longer to develop, using patches and updates as a scratching post for that stuff can be a game changer if true.
Don't bite my head off over feeding the thought.

I believe that the leak is someone with knowledge of whatever marketing materials was around who decided to fuck with people and add something about the Switch 2.

My prediction is more stable than a switch firmware and I predict once again that 2024 is the year. Probably H1.

Nintendo has to announce this system 4-5 months out because it’ll be next gen. Could line up with Nintendo not doing E3 because they’re preparing for announcement of Switch 2 and presentation this summer (or late summer).

Of course it can mean they just don’t need E3 anymore too.

This is my thoughts as well. E3 is earlier in the year than they want to announce the new hardware. On top of that, it would be announcing new hardware only a few weeks after Zelda TotK releases and Nintendo wants to give that game and its special edition OLED plenty of time to shine. There is currently nothing dated past Pikmin 4. Its not a sparse lineup of games listed for H2 2023, but a completely desolate lineup. They released Prime Remastered but didn't even mention Prime 4, a game that still hasn't been given any sort of release window yet. It seems very possible that when they announce their second half lineup, most of the big hitters could be Switch 2 games (even if cross gen) and they don't want to announce them before they announce the new hardware.

The developers who have access to Switch 2 development hardware could be shocking low right now. Nintendo's plan may be to roll out the new hardware driven by exclusive software rather than a plethora of ports from third parties. Launching with a new 3D Mario and Prime 4 would likely overshadow titles from third parties anyway.
