I wasn't a big fan of this game when I tried to play it a few years back, but a remake that fixes some of the funkier issues in the game could be interesting.
It’s not cutting it close. It’s just a remake/remaster and an announcement in June for September release is plenty of time.Something to keep an eye on, I guess, given the source is pretty definitive about it being this year. I'd love to see both games get remade/remastered because we never got Origins in Europe. Timeline in the article is a little odd - suggests an E3 reveal for a summer release, but that'd be cutting it close? Unless it's a relatively minimal job.
2023 really heavily rumoured to be the Year of the Coober, huh.
Genuine question, I haven't finished it, but am pretty much stuck at the final fight... Is this plot twist still coming or am I just too jaded about everything that has come before?Card based RPG. An amazing game with a cool plot twist and an amazing soundtrack.
I often forget September counts as summer. Still suspicious on this one, but it'd be fun if true. It’s not cutting it close. It’s just a remake/remaster and an announcement in June for September release is plenty of time.
Namco, which is why Nintendo would need to work with them as alluded to in the rumor. Pretty excited about this, my first monolith soft game i played, have fond memories of this series made me like card rpgs. Remake could me a good chance to fix some problems with the original. Is this a Namco or Nintendo IP?
Is this a Namco or Nintendo IP?
Bamco, though Nintendo co-owns the prequel since they financed itIs this a Namco or Nintendo IP?
It’s Namco’sIs this a Namco or Nintendo IP?
Yes tho the prequel is better from what I hear. Moves and items are all card based and many can actually age(like milk into cheese) which is a pretty cool mechanicIs it a good game ?
Can we add this to the OP btw? Not because it adds anything, but it's a wonderful piece of 'What the hell kind of boss fight music is this?!'.
I sure as hell hope that Honne is behind this. He deserves his revenge!
(Also, give him the Mother series too already!)
Even better, a sequel, with the proposal meeting set up by Iwata himself.
-Quote SourceSupreme Overlord said:There's the question of whether certain elements, tone and themes and such, overall feel, would be captured, but Honne seemed to think it could be done, and I don't see why it necessarily couldn't. Of course, the element remains that Itoi considers the series done, and I wouldn't necessarily expect it to continue directly unless that changes.
The way I could see something like this working now is if MonolithSoft were to put together a Mother trilogy remake* to have the series released now. Yasuyuki Honne would actually do really well with translating this into the clay style used in the advertising and manual, as evidenced by Sedna in Baten Kaitos: Origins
Through this, experience would be gained to help with the overall feel of a new game, and that sequel could be developed, the serial numbers filed off and the project become a spiritual successor. The proposed project could be realized, but as its own thing.
With this following the proposed felt construction, the trilogy remake and the successor could be be brilliant entries into Nintendo's Crafted Worlds.
*I would, of course, prefer the originals be included, and don't even necessarily require the remakes so long as the trilogy is released.
Card based RPG. An amazing game with a cool plot twist and an amazing soundtrack.
Nintendo actually owns something from the series. Compared to Xenosaga which is all Namco so I figured that’s the line.I find it hard to believe BK is getting a remake when xenosaga can't get an HD remaster due to market research, I'm willing to wager BK is far less popular/known
Turn-based JRPG with card-based combat. What type of game is this?
I think that twist must come still, because you'd definitely know what I'm talking about. Don't look it up, just play!Genuine question, I haven't finished it, but am pretty much stuck at the final fight... Is this plot twist still coming or am I just too jaded about everything that has come before?
True. Maybe Honne pushed for this since BK is his baby.I find it hard to believe BK is getting a remake when xenosaga can't get an HD remaster due to market research, I'm willing to wager BK is far less popular/known
I'm from Europe, Origins never released hereAnd then you get into Origins, and it messes with things even more.
we just got an original game in xenoblade 3, and they already confirmed to be working on a new Xenoblade. if Honne wants to return to an older game, let himUgh another remake. What's happening to this industry at this point
The former is a complete project who’s headman wants to return to it, the latter is a mess and the head people behind it moved onI find it hard to believe BK is getting a remake when xenosaga can't get an HD remaster due to market research, I'm willing to wager BK is far less popular/known
I know you didn't tag him, but please avoid requesting info from folks. They'll share if and when they're ready to, I reckon.NATE please confirm. Because this sounds completely believable with everything we’ve heard and seen in todays industry
Same but I never got around to restarting. That disk swap was brutalOmg. This is my gaming “devil’s bane” if you will. It’s the game in my entire gaming collection that I’m upset having never finished. So some backstory…
I bought the game, played an hour of it, and determined I just didn’t like it because I didn’t understand the card system. But it was really bothering me that I didn’t like it so I pulled out the gaming manual (don’t you all miss these?!), read through it, and gave the game another chance. This time I loved it.
So I get to the second disc and it clearly warns you that there’s no going back once it’s started and I believe even recommended having a backup save, and I in my elite gaming ignorance chose to discard the warning and continued on anyway. Well… I sure wasn’t expecting Disc 2 to practically start off with a hard as hell boss fight against not one, not two, but three tough as nails opponents simultaneously. And of course, I was badly under leveled and couldn’t do a thing.
I was then forced to start the game all the way back from the beginning, which I didn’t do until years later. And then I managed to progress pretty darn far after that point, but got distracted by some other game at the time and never finished it.
So with all of that said, I am super excited for this remake because I really, really need to play and finish this game.
Of course it is!It's not loading for me right now, but tell me those is Chaotic Dance. Because otherwise I'll have to track it down and drag it into here myself.
I just can't beat Malpercio thoughI think that twist must come still, because you'd definitely know what I'm talking about. Don't look it up, just play!
Turn-based JRPG with card-based combat.
What will happen later this week? Not worth believing so far but I hope it's true.
I never played it back in the day because I used to find JRPG boring as a kid beyond the Mario RPGs, and lately I've been really willing to play it. I was starting to wonder if I should buy a copy just a few days ago. Just in case, I'll wait till later this week to see if it's true.
Anyway, it would make sense, wasn't there a few Baten Kaitos trademarks poping up in the last two years or so ?
I imagine basically having a hand in all of Nintendo's modern AAA games allows a lot of leeway for their personal projectsInteresting. Monolith sure gets a lot of freedom from Nintendo. EPD must respect the studio a lot!
It's a bit of a mixed bag. Has some strengths. A pretty interesting story and beautiful environmental art, offset by some really bleh characters and bad voice acting (VA would be fixed in a remake). The card-based battle system is interesting and the aging of the cards even more interesting, but both can also be a bit tedious to manage imo but overall the battle system is a strength (though not necessarily a glowing strength). Some balance changes and QoL improvements could go a long way. Character interactions would probably stand to be the biggest room for improvement though. Whole party feels like a weird mishmash of characters who barely know each other, and not in an endearing way like they're a rowdy bunch of rogues forced to team up in the face of an existential threat. Is it a good game ?

FromSoft returned to Armored CoreI. Maybe we could get them to come back to this.Hey if we are gonna be remaking some Gamecube classics, throw Lost Kingdoms in the mix. Thanks!
Yeah it's a very polarized game. Gameplay is full of good and innovative ideas, but has some jank and clunkiness around the edges (in a very "mid-budget 00s" kind of way). Though on the whole I quite like the battle system. Great worldbuilding and environments. Brilliant soundtrack, awful voice acting. The story has some good ideas but is executed in a way to feel kind of generic - I get the feeling a lot of this can be blamed on localization though. I have a soft spot for it but people will have different reactions. However I'm sure a remaster/remake would polish it up some. It's a bit of a mixed bag. Has some strengths.
