Happy New Year Fami! Hope we all have a great one!

I'm west coast too @chocolate_supra !

I'm going to write the Top X Favorite 2022 games thread I've been promising, so see y'all with that soon :)

Edit! Here we go!

Happy new year peeps! May your wishes and dreams be yours!

Also thanks for the Ngage Tootpaste pic

Love it!

The Share Your Top X Favorite Games of 2022 thread is ready to go! Everyone is welcome! Share your favs new and old! (I got carried away writing about my top ten favorite games. You don't have to write as much as me lol.)

2023 will finally be the year where we get to play FFVI on Switch.

Now we just wait for Chrono Trigger.

And Terranigma.
A slew of Quintet-remasters? Yes please! Preferably a rerelease of the Soul Blazer-trilogy.

I will probably do a top 5 later today - I enjoyed the 2021 version of this thread.

Hey! Happy new year everyone :D Been a while! Thanks @Barely Able for the mention :)

I know I've been gone a fair while, so has anything happened since then? Either way, it's good to be back and I'm gonna try to make this coming year a better one. Whether that be on here, or in my real life and such. 2022 was, for many reasons, not a great year for me at all, and I really don't want to make 2023 into one of those as well. Especially now that I've found some ways to deal with my own issues, ones that I hope don't override the coming months.

Though, unfortunately... my Switch broke lol. The USB-C ports on both the dock and the Switch itself clearly got messed up in some way so it wasn't docked nor was it charging. So I won't be able to actually do anything 'Nintendo' until Nintendo gets round to repairing it :(

Glad to see you back :) Had some cool games to discuss in the meantime, Mario and Rabbids, Bayonetta, and Pokemon. Hope your Switch gets fixed soon!

Nintendo sent me a survey for Elechead, which sadly won't load.

However, the existence of this survey suggests that Elechead will join Qbby, Jobski, and Chibi-Robo in a crossover extravaganza later this year.

Ugh, spent new year's eve at the ER again, I really hope I have no more surgeries in 2023.

Stay safe everyone and have a great year!

No offense to anyone, but what's with all the hyper specific, speculative/opinionated question threads lately lmao

Happy New Year, everyone!

Had to work yesterday (again, up until 6PM, arrived home around 7; just like the Christmas shift), but this time I've got to eat something more appropriate to the occasion, as I went to my roomate's grandma house to celebrate the new year's arrival (she's the cutest, by the way);

Couldn't take the Sunday off-work to sleep as much I wanted.. my cat started my 2023 meowing on my face by 7AM, and I got up to do some domestic chores; Either way, I hope you're all having a good day!

If my OP was unhinged enough to cause potential domestic problems, then I have done my job. ❤️

I feel kinda guilty for this but.. yeah. I agree. One of the weirdly helpful things about the WiiU release schedule was I could focus on games, but now it's like a nonstop deluge of fantastic stuff. I've said it before but if the next Nintendo system doesn't do as well it'd almost be a relief to me as I could maybe finally catch up. 😅

Oh and as far as you putting your name in for June, I can mark you in the list on the OP just as soon as I, uh.. find out if that's all it officially takes. 😅 @Red Monster is that all it officially takes?

At first I was like

Considering I made up the list and the rules like two weeks ago, I’m gonna say that’s all it officially takes!

The surprise update we got for Into The Breach a few months ago has me wanting one for Slay The Spire.
If you're on PC, there's always mods. Like Downfall which rolls up a handful of other mods into basically an expansion pack:

I'm already recognizing music from Chrono Cross here in Radical Dreamers. And the intro was basically the same! Some of the writing, too. I knew CC was based on the concept and characters of RD but I had no idea to what extent. I wonder what it must've been like for people who played this in 96 to then get a massively expanded version a few years later.
Oh yea, most of the RD OST is in CC in some form or another. I remember playing it on ZSNES back in the day and having the same reaction to when I tried MOTHER and discovered some of the more iconic songs were lifted straight out of the previous game.

Remember when U2 started out a song with 1, 2, 3, 14

Happy New Year

And all of #TeamJanuary will adopt “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” as their theme song come February 1.
Meanwhile #TeamFebruary will be grooving to Mysterious Ways because that's how Nintendo works

However, the existence of this survey suggests that Elechead will join Qbby, Jobski, and Chibi-Robo in a crossover extravaganza later this year.
Day effin' One

New Years day means Bonejack makes self-made Pizza
I misread this as Bojack and was momentarily highly concerned

As long as Chibi-Robo gets brought back, sure

Ugh, spent new year's eve at the ER again, I really hope I have no more surgeries in 2023
Hope you recover quickly, my friend. I will drink (and by drink I mean eat chocolates) to your health

what's with all the hyper specific, speculative/opinionated question threads lately
We needed fireworks in some fashion

It still bums me out that I’ve only heard Mysterious Ways live, like, once. Its a groovy ass song.

Now Vertigo… I know it warms up the crowd and pleasers like Elevation too, still, their old stuff is great.

But hey what do I know, I loved Pop and people don’t like that album.

Famous leaker MisterSpo receives classified information from Nintendo suggesting a new Fighter's Pass for SSMBU featuring some lesser known characters.

Remaster? Nah, man. Illusion of Gaia deserves a full 2DHD remake in all its glory.
That'll be cool to. But man, these games deserve to be available to everyone. If it takes a piss poor porting job I'm even up for that at this point.

Welcome back! Hope this year is kinder to you and you can have a good time here 😊

Happy New Year! May you get the Nintendo DS Touch Generations game reboot you've wanted this year.

Started Nier Automata End of Yorha Edition so it's both New Year's Day and Nier Yorha's Day as far as I'm concerned.

Does anyone else have video game-related new year resolutions?

I’m big on new year resolutions, and this year, I’m doing no replays. No old stuff. Prioritise new stuff, and the backlog.
I was thinking of maybe playing more indies, but I'm not sure yet; last year was the first year I barely played indies since the Switch came out.

I think I'll aim to just keep playing what I enjoy. The first few months are already full of lengthy-ish games - just started Nier Automata, Fire Emblem and Octopath 2 are preordered, and Zelda is there waiting in May. I'll do Pentiment on Series S before my £1 month of Game Pass expires, and I also have Cyberpunk installed on the Series S. So realistically even before I think about buying and finding indies, a lot of my gaming time is booked.

Not really a resolution, but I guess I just want to play as many games as I can before May, and then pray that I can find time to experience Zelda and FF16 before 2024 😱

Resist feature creep at all costs.

I respect your resolve but this would singlehandedly ruin gaming for me lol

That's the opposite of my resolution lmao. I've been planning on replaying Xenoblade 3 and Three Houses (Crimson Flower route this time), hopefully there will be some spare time to do it

But hey what do I know, I loved Pop and people don’t like that album.
Pop isn't bad, it's just the weakest of the Achtung Baby / Zooropa / Pop trilogy. The 1990-2000 album did a really good job at rehabiilitating some of the songs, but the whole album is kinda high-concept and didn't quite land they had hoped. Probably could've used a few more edits and time in the oven really.

No Line on the Horizon on the other hand I just could not get into when it released. I gave it a re-listen a year or two ago and there's a few solid tracks on there. But, the whole album is just kinda meandering mush and I'm pretty sure is responsible for them scurrying back to the drawing board and just saying "fuck it, let's just give people what they want" with the Songs duology as the result.

I think the biggest resolution I have this year is to reduce the amount of friction it takes for me to pull out something from the backlog. I want to get a new bookshelf for my living room to put my games on so I don't have to fish through boxes in the closet if I want to play a Wii game, or dig through the double-layer stack of DS games in a bookshelf in another room.

I also want to do a better job of finishing games. It kinda pains me that I haven't touched Live A Live with only 3 chapters left, or that I was pulled away from NEO: The World Ends With You last year when I was in the second week of the game. Last year I 100%ed Kirby and the Forgotten Land and it was one of the best experiences I've had in ages and I loved feeling satisfied at the end of it rather than writing the mental IOU of "well I'll come back to this later" and then never returning.

I do want to play some stuff out of the backlog. If I could find the time to play one of the Nintendo or Squaresoft RPGs in my backlog this year that would make me super happy. But I also want to do a replay of something, because I miss replaying games I was familiar with when I was a kid and would just rotate between games. Maybe not an RPG, but with so many franchises celebrating anniversaries lately I feel like something shorter like a Mario platformer would do the trick.

I would also love to have the time to really sink my teeth into a single game and learn the ins and outs of it. I'm in constant awe of the Splatoon thread regulars and how deep people are into that series while I always end up dropping it after maybe 20 hours and most of that is in the campaign. I have a number of roguelikes in particular that I wish I could invest the time into but there's always the siren call of what's next on the horizon. Hades II getting announced kinda threw this feeling back onto my radar as I enjoyed the first game but dropped it after a couple of clears and I know there's still more story bits in there that I missed. I have no idea how to balance this with everything else but it's something I'd really like to do even though I know I'm a bit of a ludotourist.

Last resolution is to continue migrating my PS4 library to Switch/PC. P5 and Nier:Automata was the missing piece to this puzzle and there's now a critical mass of titles on Switch where I'm comfortable passing up on PS4/PS5 for the foreseeable future. I'm hoping that dropping down to only two platforms will help with the backlog and I can make use of exclusivity windows to ease up some of the pressure on the release schedules. For example. knowing that I can take my time with TotK without fretting about Final Fantasy XVI coming a month or two later is kinda freeing.

hey btw I bought a Switch oled yesterday and uh

hmm

I didn’t realize it’d be… this much of an upgrade?
My sister got an OLED for Christmas and she let me play with it for a bit. And wow. It makes my Switch feel like actual garbage.

I might have to buy one now.

Yeah it’s actually kinda shocking how premium it feels? That screen is so vivid…
