Rumour Images of Switch OLED Tears of the Kingdom Edition have leaked

Someone explain to me why this disproves the switch 2? Were we expecting for Totk to release only on switch 2?
Of course they would be a special edition of switch, this has nothing to do with switch 2. Unless ppl believe that the leaker would also have photos of switch 2 which is ridiculous.
I'm not saying that switch 2 will release alongside Totk, I'm just saying that a special edition of switch means nothing. If anything it makes perfect sense.

Basically, this disproves Switch 2 launching before or when TotK is out would make no sense for releasing a SE console for your older system when the new system is out or will be out on launch day. However, this hasn't disapproved a Switch 2 releasing in 2023 that can happen just not in Q1/Q2

This is what I don't understand. Why doesn't make sense to release a se switch console? I doubt that Nintendo want to sabotage every switch sale just because they released switch 2.

To be fair they've done exactly that before with the new 3DS.

I agree though that this makes it unlikely.

Remember when they had a full-size TotK Link statue with backdrop without any gameplay demo or serious trailer to go along with it? Just the plastic, as it's own attraction?

Nintendo has been extra weird this year...

and I thought that was due to drake preparation, but it might've been just regular nintendo being extra weird every year

I find it kinda silly to be disappointed by this news (well, leak), as if Nintendo ever even implied a successor was right around the corner. If anything Nintendo has been implying the opposite, but people got caught up in rumors and speculation and then got upset when those didn't match reality.

this is a salient point

I never should've taken nintendo weirdness to mean anything

In their reports they have talking about the best way to transition to new hardware, I'm sure they are thinking about it. (Mainly their Q&As).

Obviously a successor is in development, nobody would argue otherwise. That doesn't mean we'll see it anytime soon. They clearly want the OLED to last several years on the market.

We have been getting new Switch iterations every 2 years so should be coming up on another model next year.

The amount of people eager to buy this Zelda OLED is exactly why it would have no bearing whatsoever on a Switch 2 releasing shortly after. This will move units - fans will own it as a second(+) Switch, a collectors item, etc. but it will sell out, just as previous collectors editions have.

Iā€™m not saying we still get new hardware in 2023, but the idea that this is some smoking gun is silly. Digital Foundryā€™s passing statement is the only thing we have to cast significant doubt right now.

Edit: Brief aside, I kind of think it looks ugly. They should have gone with gold/black styling like so many of the previous handhelds.

O damn on Twitter I just see one pic, here thereā€™s a full blown gallery

It looks reslly nice, very tempting since the fan in by Switch is dying but really hoping for a pro model this year

It's honestly hard to know. New consoles rarely get SEs out the gate. The 3DS was unique because it lived alongside the Switch for a few years as a completely different thing.

My fan in my Switch died as well! I took it to a shop and had to replace the fan for $100...

But if Switch 2 isn't releasing in May no way in hell, I'd wait for a port of TOTK on Switch 2.

I found the quality of my famiboards experience shot up rapidly when I threw the hardware speculation thread on ignore.

Switch being so close to perfection and Breath of the Wild being my favorite game of all time created the perfect storm for my investment in the topic - there is no more exciting idea in gaming for me than 100s of hours of Tears of the Kingdom looking very sharp on my new TV. Diablo IV co-op with my wife is probably right up there as well

I enjoy the thread, but I need a break especially with the recent rumors abound.

the best way to engage with forums is to talk about things you kinda care about rather than things you really care about.

I think most people, myself included, are just antsy for a new Switch because the current one is showing its age more day by day. I'm extremely ready for new hardware.

The thought of going through an entire year of new releases without a more capable Switch hurts, let alone 1+ years.

I know, people who want new hardware won't stop talking about it. :p

hahaha, nope. people will start thinking about the switch 3 immediately.
Well I didn't say permanently

Yeah, mine died right before Pokemon released, and the only place in my country that does (affordable) repairs is Nintendo; didn't wanna be without a Switch for a week or two with Pokemon coming up... Considered just buying a new Switch, but didn't seem worth it with the rumblings I kept hearing.
Was just gonna wait for mid 2023 when the "pro" released, I kept checking here and that's what the rumors indicated. Sucks, during Black Friday I could've got an OLED for a god 40% off RRP. Oh well, my Switch works fine, just overheats. I just ended up buying a USB fan that I plug into the dock to blow on the Switch, works fine. Only issue is handheld where it only lasts about an hour before over heating, but I hardly ever play handheld so it's not that bad, really.

Honestly these pictures look like standard fake pictures with the bad lighting and blurry image.

You must try really hard to make such bad pictures even if you have an older Smartphone.

Not really, if youā€™re trying to take a picture surreptitiously and as quickly as possible.

If this is fake, it would be rather creative and convincing, selecting the appropriate elements from the existing Tears of the Kingdom material that only particularly enthusiastic fans have combed over. The left joy-con using the pattern found on the sides of the sky islands, the right joy-con using the zen garden design from the website, the Zonai crest being a lotus flower and two ancient eye symbols, the rune symbols on the backs of the joy-con resembling the one on Link's gauntlet (one of them being exactly the same), the Zonai lettering... etc.

Everyone's noticed a few of these, but someone observing all of them and then copying the design language so well reduces the possibility of this being a fake.

I know there exist good fakes. It'd take less effort to make a convincing one though, there have already been a few real-looking mockups. So I'm at a 99%.

Y'all say this about every special edition.

"We don't believe you, you need more people." - Hov

Should have did that, instead of deleting my account when the "uncles" nonsense was going on.

It won't.

Something that still bothers me is that on the back of the leaked box, the docked switch photo has a bottom shadow. None of the previous special edition boxes have this, but this shadow exists on the corresponding images on Nintendoā€™s website.

With that and the fact that the Dock is arguably harder to mod and isnā€™t shown in photo, itā€™s hard to believe this leak fully. But the rest is so convincing.
