I can only hope Nintendo keep on doing what they're doing best -- sending enthusiast circles into chaos. Oh, sweet, sweet chaos.

He also said that device was not using the Drake chip, the chip explicitly tied to Nintendo which is currently in production.

Hence the massive, massive confusion happening.
At least the hardware guys and the Nvidia leaks have me pretty well convinced Drake is too far along to be itself shelved, so I'm just waiting to see if it's gonna release with a gold Zelda variant.

Which is all I was really waiting for since I began lurking the hardware thread on Era. 😅

I bought my sister an OLED for Christmas and that one extra sale was enough to convince Nintendo that a hardware refresh wasn't necessary for 2023.
I wonder how much longer I have to keep playing my 2017 model to convince them it is.

Y’all, Part Time UFO is endearing with its “hey we just got a physics library” energy from like mid-2000s.

Loving how this vacation started with “I’m going to play Splatoon 3, and Live A Live” and has been “I’m playing retro NES and short indie games”.

Oh my god my code for equipping items and passive skills is a horrible mess. I did that like 8 months ago, glad I know what the hell I'm doing now so fixing it won't be too hard.
Welcome to development! I’m lucky if I can remember stuff I wrote 3 months ago at work 😅

Fire Emblem Engage looks too good.
Honest question… are they intentionally going hard after the FEH audience with all this summoning heroes from other games?

What's going on is a huge mess of confusion and people dunking on others extremely prematurely.
So it’s a day ending in Y in that thread?

Sitting in the truck in a parking lot while it rains, watching the traffic blow rooster tails of mist and listening to Anúna. Today is good.

I'm gonna have to see how this board takes this new development but if it's anything like the last few months I'm going to ask for a ban until new hardware is announced.
I am at least glad that this was mentioned before Direct Thread begun, but I can totally see people talking about it even more there.

Honestly I'm kinda glad I retired from most leak/rumor discussion to focus on games. This shit would have really frustrated me a few years ago, but now I'm just like "meh" and continue playing Mario Kart.

i don’t check famiboards all day long and come back to 13 pages of hardware speculation!

looks like potential bad news from reading this thread :(

There's no real new development necessarily. Mostly a lot of confusion.

DF saying a pro style revision was cancelled but we knew that was the case in 2019 from Nikkei. Everything else is very murky and confusing.

Let’s see, my current jrpgs to work on are: Ryza, Nier Automa, Digimon Hackers memories and Live a Live. Oh and Persona 3 next month. Of the current 4 not sure what I’m going to dive into, wanna start Nier but it’s a chill week so perfect time to blast through Live a Live.

Also I’ll finally post my xbc3 time and thoughts in the completed games thread later

Someone please indulge me. What was the news in the hardware thread so I don’t have to wade through it. Obviously I get some sort of switch revision/successor delay/cancellation, but don’t have the major topics.

That's it. A Switch pro style revision was canned some time in the last 5 years.

There was nothing else.

Yep.

Now they have an obvious reason to act like the Switch Pro existed, but it was just "cancelled" in favor of something else (it didn't exist at all lmao).

Wow. A list video that's only 6 minutes long.

Just what it should be.

...You know, I have nothing against "list videos" themselves, but I'm getting tired of seeing them all the time.

You know, while I was pretty big into Nintendo Switch speculation (to the point where it was my way into what would eventually become Famiboards), I haven't found myself as fussed this time around. That's not to say I don't want a Switch 2, I do want one, and I'm eager to see how more power benefits newer and older games. But I think the difference between how things were in 2016 and how things were are now is that it was kinda miserable to be a primary Nintendo player back then. Between the launch of Super Mario Maker and Breath of the Wild, there wasn't much of note coming out. We had Pokemon! Xenoblade X has its fans. But this was also an era of stuff like Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, or Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival, or Chibi-Robo: Zip-Lash. Releases were very slow and what was there was...less than ideal, and forget third parties or indies. But on Switch, I got tons to play, new and old. Nintendo's releasing generally high-quality stuff, indies are killing it, and the occasional bigger third-party title can be a great supporting title. So a new Switch will come, I'll get it Day 1 for sure, but I'm enjoying myself while I wait.

Or, to put it more bluntly...

in my memory it was worse tbh lol

comparing the subreddits it sounds pretty much the same
okay but i can at least see the argument there even if the switch wound up having no impact on the next gen boxes (other than kicking sony out of japan lol). what even is the argument for the deck changing console gaming? the damn thing isnt even available on some regions. if the switch didnt change the trajectory of console gaming then i cant see an enthusiast device doing it either.

Gonna be great when Nintendo Switch Pro CANCELLED reverberates around January only for Nintendo to confirm Switch 2 at the end of the month launching with the Wario Land Anthology later in 2023

Real talk:

We're not getting a Switch 2 either next year.

And we may not even get one in 2024.

We honestly don't need one any time soon.

We don't.

The Switch is fine, and frankly, I feel like Nintendo striking it big with their next console isn't a sure thing given their penchant to fuck up from time to time (ala Wii U).

I miss Wario World for the GameCube, btw.

Great memories playing that at Tiger Den.

So 2024 will be the year huh

I don’t mind. Meanwhile I’ll keep playing games. Its a strange idea, I know.

I wish I could be ok with no new hardware in 2023 lol. Maybe I'll feel less strongly with time (I probably will) but right now this recent news has me thinking I might just skip everything on Switch next year, even Tears of the Kingdom until Switch 2 is out. That's basically what I did with the last couple years of the 3DS after we knew about the NX.

In other news implementing about two dozen skills each having 5 ranks and up to four different effects per rank through all sorts of different functions is not easy.

Does the Wario Land Anthology include World and Shake It

This is the opposite of real talk

Well well well.

Looks like my continuous amount of switch 2 begging prediction is gonna come true sooner then later.

Never doubt me, Fami

AAA Pokémon Colosseum remake is around the corner

Does the Wario Land Anthology include World and Shake It
It does not

It includes emulated releases of Wario Land 1, 2, 3, and Wario Land Virtual Boy

It will only be available for 6 months

Everybody kids themselves that Nintendo will surely add the missing games

Nintendo don't do this

Okay, can somebody explain why I keep seeing these in my YouTube feed?

Nothing is wrong with video gaming.

It's literally better than it's ever been (but when again I'm just getting back into it after a decade-long hiatus).

The 3D All Stars method

along with Metroid Prime 4

"Due to Original Sin, we've decided that humanity doesn't deserve Metroid Prime 4 so we'll delay it until they're ready, if ever."
* chucks Switch copy of Divinity: Original Sin II out of the window *

The one at fault is always the one you suspect the least, huh...

Nintendo postponed the Switch 2 release because Sin and Punishment 3, their big launch title, isn't ready yet

If the talk was MonkEPD being cancelled I'd be going ape shit right now.

Would you be going...bananas?

Okay, can somebody explain why I keep seeing these in my YouTube feed?

Every new generation discovers that capitalism is a thing.

In a decade we'll have videos about how games used to be great with lootboxes and microtransactions, but then the greedy business types had to ruin that purity with...whatever comes next, subscriptions or something, Idunno.

See also: people complaining about how there are "too many streaming services" even though a bunch of services you can subscribe to a la carte and only get the ones you want and cancel at any time and re-subscribe later is literally the dream we were all hoping for during the cable bundle days.
