I love the icy patch!

Maybe hot take, but it’s the far superior muppet Christmas movie
Oh now that is a hot take

Muppet Family Christmas is great, undoubtedly. But at the end of the day, it’s still just a TV special. Muppet Christmas Carol is the forever goat.

Phew, almost done.

Big bird -> roasted
Tiramisu for tomorrow -> done
Soup for today and tomorrow -> done
Dish for tonight -> on the stove and cooking

Bonechef mode, done.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone!

We have Kartoffelsalat today and Sauerbraten tomorrow. More sour than you could ever imagine.

I actually don't like if the Sauerbraten and it's sauce are too sour. It is an art to find the right balance between sour and the taste of the beef, the side dishes and the sauce.

Google Scholar is great. I work in a consulting firm doing mathematical models and I use Scholar a lot to search literature of each problem I need to solve. Almost everything has been studied by someone else before!
Indeed.

Before, I just searched for a book on the subject I wanted to learn about, usually the more recent ones, and that was that. I would use WorldCat, Amazon.com, or LibraryHub.

I didn't know about Google Scholar till today, as I said, and didn't expect to learn about something so useful that provides me with even more information than what's provided in books and e-books nowadays.

It makes me wonder what other useful websites or functions I don't know about. 🤔

@Dardan Sandiego will be pleased to know that I watched Glass Onion last night. It was pretty good though I think Knives Out was a bit better.

For my Christmas Eve movie, I'll be watching Tokyo Godfathers instead. Never seen it before but I heard good things.

Delved a little bit too deeply into the D2R swamp, but it is the best time of the year for that.

Merry Christmas, everyfami!

Kinda standard predictions: new mario, new console, etc.

But this article had one of my favorite quotes of the year from Matt Piscatella:

“If the past 15 or so years in games have taught me anything it is that the path to madness is paved with the bricks of bad Nintendo predictions.”

I'm mildly curious about the Pikmin 4 prediction:

While delays can always happen, rumor has it Pikmin 4 has been nearly done for quite a while now, so hopefully that means we’re on the cusp of getting our hands on those cute little plant guys really soon.
Is there a source on who said Pikmin 4 has nearly gone gold? Truthfully my pessimism has it set for a 2024 delay already, but I'd love nothing more than to be wrong (especially if Pikmin 1 or 2 won't get a re-release on Switch beforehand)

I've never heard or read anything that suggested Pikmin 4 was nearly done, other than Miyamoto saying it was nearing completion like 7 years ago?

Pikmin 4 is legitimately a game which makes me think new hardware is coming in 2023. Miyamoto name dropped the series as a game that would benefit from 4K, and Pikmin is his baby.

I should start Pikmin 3 DX. Nearly 9 years since I played the original, which is odd to think about.

Oh, if they're referencing Miyamoto I'm not taking much stock in that quote when it's nearly achieved Duke Nukem Forever status of taking almost a decade to release lol

I want to believe that P4 means new hardware is imminent, but if anything my logic goes that it won't release before the new hardware - I love the mainline series but I wouldn't consider it a system seller unless they didn't have Zelda slated with a firm release date next year to showcase high resolution textures in 4K

I might give P3D a go later if I can get my emulator to play nice with the first two games - it's not necessarily my favourite just because it is so short, but at least there's opportunity to improve speedrun times haha

I forgot how much fps tanks in the korok forest of botw
And also in the jungle on the way to Lurelin. Did they ever fix that?

Breath of the Wild is the game that made me aware of what slowdown was. I had never noticed before, or payed attention, when a game would slow to a crawl. Oh, Goldeneye slows way down when bombs go off? Guess that’s just how it’s supposed to be!

It wasn’t until playing Breath of the Wild that I noticed what slowdown was and how unpleasant it was to experience.

I'll have to check in the jungle and report back. I haven't made my way to the part of the map yet on this playthrough

I see two people on OfferUp attempting to offload their Corrin P2 amiibo for $180+, now that they know she's getting a reprint.

Should've sold sooner, folks! 🙃

Okay, I'm wondering:

Is a JSTOR account worth it?

Perhaps one on ScienceDirect instead?

Access to academic articles and studies behind paywalls cost quite the sum... 🤔

Ugh some tough decisions

Time to watch the Bocchi finale

So is Alice in Borderland just a live action anime? While on Netflix I was reading the show description on how it's about a gamer trapped in an alternate Tokyo while clips of a guy fighting a woman in a bikini played in the background.

Holiday Jazz Day 24: “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” Brian Culbertson

Bringing the funk for you on Christmas Eve like I hope Santa will be bringing gifts tonight with Rudolph navigating this winter weather. Super fun take on the song and just groovy as can be. Culbertson is multitalented, so, if I’m not mistaken, he is playing the keyboard and the trombone solos. Hope this helps get you in the spirit.

"Incidentally, a Happy Christmas to all of you at home!"

QUICK EDIT: this is my 500th post here! Woohoo!

maybe I’m misunderstanding something, but didn’t Alan Wake already come out?

Literally none. The most credible source we have has said it was rebooted by 2019, and they didn't show any gameplay or anything substantial (like they did right on the first trailer of FE Engage, a game we've had sources saying was done for awhile).

I definitely wouldn't rule out the possibility of a delay, but I won't predict one or anything like that.

That quote most likely is based of that infamous "very close to completion" 2015 Miyamoto interview.

Eh, that rumor doesn't sound believable at all. SMT4 makes use of secondary screen a lot, they need to remake the game completely to bring it to other platforms.

Maybe it's not 4-5 but SMT3-Digital Devil Saga 1-2? Makes more sense, DDT should be next in line to receive a HD remaster.

Eh, dungeon design was one of the worst. For SMT4 and Apocalypse Atlus focused on story rather than dungeons, it left us kinda wanting. SMT4 was kind of a followup to 3DS's Strange Journey in that aspect. SMT5 followed SMT3 instead.
Why they can’t simple retooled all second screen mechanics? Never played SMT4 but don’t think its impossible to port to modern systems.

btw, if smtv is a royal style release, hopefully this time it gets all content as a mayor dlc expansion rather that have to buy the game again (although in smtv once you beat the final boss you need to restart the game again…).

Not long after we saw it, I figured Pikmin 4 would be a September/October release; a little like us finally seeing Bayonetta 3 in September 2021 and it getting an October 2022 release. We could also think about Luigi's Mansion 3 being revealed in September 2018 and getting an October 2019 release. For whatever reason, mentally, Pikmin 4 seems to be the same as that to me.

Watch out for the icy patch!
I am perpetually disappointed the only way to watch this is to bootleg it.

My weekly online movie night group watched that after I requested we wait a week for Glass Onion. Looks like it was a good time based on the chat log!

Muppet Christmas Carol > Muppet Family Christmas = The Christmas Toy > Emmett Otter

Yeah, that makes sense. I know I was getting dunked on when I first put that evil into the universe in one thread a while back guessing which game would launch alongside new hardware (and rightfully so), but on the basis of so little actually shown (and also given when we got logos like the original announcement of Skyward Sword or Metroid Prime 4), I'll be pleasantly surprised if it releases before the end of 2023, but in my head I'm adding a +1 to that 2023 number in the teaser.

Conventionally it does seem to make more sense as a 'spring' type of game, but if it does end up releasing in September while it's still summer in North America and about to hit spring in Australia, that tracks too

Well, I was going to post in the grievances thread, but the decision to lock it screwed up my draft. I'm now sad and wish we kept it open.

But, I guess I have to post here real quick:
  • Better matchmaking for Splatoon 3, I'm so tired of losing like 5-10 games in a row and that is indicative of bad matchmaking at a certain point. Not to mention I don't get ANY XP from losses, so it also doubly hurts the game by gating me out of progression.
  • Splatoon and Animal Crossing need to be WAY easier to play together. Don't make me and my friend each have to go through like 5 unique menus and presses, it should be as easy as a couple button presses from a main menu.
  • Please Nintendo reprint more Amiibo. The Splatoon ones have been really nice and so will the Fire Emblem ones be, but a lot of the Smash line only got a small print run it felt like, Zelda could use a huge reprint for TotK, and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE reprint the Pikmin Amiibo from Hey Pikmin for Pikmin 4.

The Steam Sale had to start like 2 days after I got my Steam Deck so uh… I got the Utawarerumono trilogy. Thinking of also grabbing Monochrome Mobius while it’s still discounted.

The whole "Shin Megami Tensei coming to Xbox" rumor would be exciting if it wasn't from a guy who's got an atrocious track record. He couldn't even get platforms and names right.

Oh, yeah?

Well, guess what: I can't get platforms and names right.

Heh. Gottem.

I love that this is itself a grievance

Verdana is the good stuff 🤘
Ah, you too as well?

I only just recently learned that you can change the font on your browser through the Settings, did just that, and now everything is more readable and easier on the eyes.
