I think the amount of pinned threads is just right, considering the Metroid thread will be unpinned when the event ends, and thus we'll be down to the usual 3.
@Irene and @Josh5890's Game of the Year Celebration thread (which both of them put the full might of their backs into, seriously) will be pinned, once they post it on January 1st, at which point, the Metroid event will either get the boot, or remain pinned alongside the GOTY thread. That's partly why we're soliciting opinions as to how many pins are deemed acceptable by the community.

(To be clear, I wouldn't be offended in the slightest, if the Metroid event was kicked from the Pin Club. It's had its time in the spotlight, and it also runs for double the duration of any other site event, due to the sheer number of badges featured.)

Oh well then I'd unpin the software thread. Hasn't had a post since Monday. Doesn't have the activity to warrant a pinning.

I think unpinning the software thread makes the most sense. The number of times I’ve accidentally hit that one by accident is annoying.

Otherwise I wouldn’t go to 5 pinned threads. It feels like on mobile all you see are pinned threads when you first load Treehouse.

Hey everyone,

Fire Emblem: Engage is releasing four weeks from today.
And that also means 6 weeks until the first Direct of 2023!

It’s cold enough out there to freeze your Winnebago
No stabbing each other with fish!

I'm actually kinda interested in this

The reviews looked pretty interesting. I love the idea that you can hang out in the airports in real time until your flight leaves.

You know what I'm worried about though?
(Drumroll please)
I heard this game about dogs has too many fetch quests.

Just got an email from Nintendo for a survey about the end of year stats thing. I made my disappointment very clear in how it was handled this year

Tried to watch Glass Onion with my girlfriend but we got distracted, if you know what I mean 😏

Ayo playing SSBU online with friends, and we can't include CPU players in the mix? It's only 1v1 if it's just two friends on either side of the city?

You can as long as you like streaming the PS3 versions!

Don't get me started on the PS Premium offerings
I was going to buy premium when I subscribed to plus on the sale, but then saw it was very hard to lower your plan unless you basically let it cancel. Plus most of the games I would want to play are PS1 classics and those don’t seem to be added really (and can be purchased separately). Just a poor offering considering the PS1/2 back catalog and how well they did on PS3/P/Vita.

Yesterday, I acquired the froggy on the right. I already owned the froggy on the left. I now have two froggies.

Bonus froggy hat and lanyard:
I don't know how much bigger this family will grow, but I'll be sure to keep an eye out for more cool frog stuff.

Supposedly emulation is super easy on Xbox Series consoles. I looked into it and it seemed way too complicated for a dumbdumb like me.
It’s way easier than setting up certain non-Steam games on Steam Deck, I can tell you that much. Having done both, of course.

What kind of sick person would it take to design a MegaMan X level? (Never played much of the older ones so I can't judge, but I'm at the first Doppler stage in X3 after playing through both 1 and 2)

And that’s credits on ElecHead!

Some of these rooms to get at the collectibles are 🤯

Wait till you reach X6

Don't get me started on the lack of PS Premium offerings, especially PS2 games
I’d sign up for premium in a heartbeat if there were actually PS2 games on the service. All that’s there now are the PS4 versions of a few games they put out years ago.

God damn it, my stupid laptop with its stupid barely 8gb of RAM crashed ue4 just when I was about to test an ability I had been coding for the better part of an hour and of course it had been like 40 minutes since I last saved.

Praying autosave worked for once

Leaving this here in case anyone here is even half as interested in monster tamers like I am. Shout out to Gym Leader Ed for organizing this event, it's a massive undertaking featuring over 30 games and he pulled it off. Of the games shown here I'm most interested in:
  • Lumentale, purely for the coconut crab design
  • Coromon getting even more updates and features, easily making it one of the most robust entries in this subgenre
  • Bugaboo Pocket, where you take care of bugs Tamagotchi-style and help restore a dead forest to life
  • Adore, which is an isometric action RPG a la Diablo/Torchlight, with heavy Brazilian influences, and where you mainly summon creatures for combat
  • Grimmlins Tale, which has kooky monsters themed around fairy tales
  • Parks Unknown, where you're catching monsters to build your own monster zoo
  • Ova Magica, which is a silly blob monster tamer combined with a farming sim, hitting two of my specific interests in one go
Also if anyone remembers Palworld aka "Pokemon with guns", there's footage of that too. You can have your Grass Monkey wield an AK-47. Hilarious.

The spirit of Festivus is that you're supposed to air your grievances directly to the person that has wronged you. So it seems pointless to air grievances to a faceless corporation that is too busy counting the money is has made off of you to actually notice. It's a good thing that @Barely Able was the one who made the thread. It's already been established that they are the secret Nintendo producer you called an idiot on ResetEra, is the illegitimate child of Furukawa, and cousin-in-law to Chris Pratt. So if you have any Nintendo grievances, please honor the true Festivus tradition and air them directly to Barely Able.

Holiday Jazz Day 23: “Carol of the Bells” David Benoit

An absolutely amazing version of this song. Starts out about as traditional as you expect. Then, about a minute in, you get A pause in the piano, the drum starts to come in, and then the key strokes change to a jazzy version. Then it just sort of goes free from from there with just next level key work. I like this version because it has that walking bass throughout and a slight electric rhythm guitar. The album mixes have more of the electric out front, which can be nice, but the key work isn’t nearly as fun as this one.

No one can ever say that Nintendo doesn’t care about fan feedback anymore!

X4 probably comes closest to the highs of the first game, it’s all downhill from there anyways 😄
So far I've been enjoying the third more than the second. It's more from the same, but X2 felt cheaper to me (though the last stages seems to be really shitty)
Prepare to rage at the final boss in X3.
Oh god... I don't know if I can...
Capcom can't you add save states or rewind to your emulators? I can't go thru this part, but I'm getting tired of getting there all the time.

Yea, when I played through the PS2 era collection years ago I felt that X2 was a noticeable step down from X and X3 was sorta in between the two. X4 does some things mechanically that I like but really none of the games after X really reach the same heights unfortunately.

Would y'all recommend I play Golf Story first? Or are they more or less self-contained?
I’d recommend Golf Story since it was a great game and it’s also on sale for like $7. I haven’t booted up Sports Story yet, but I imagine there will be references to the first game.

Hey all.

Open question here.

We would like to ask the community what you all think about the amount of pinned/stickied threads. Currently, we have 4 - first party, hardware, GenDisc and the Metroid event. Is it sufficient, or too many? Would 3 stickies make the site feel more manageable? Is it fine as it is? Would 5 stickies be over the line?
Four pinned threads is fine. Five might be the limit. I’d unpin software as others have said. I know it’s more focused, but I feel it has overlap here generally. I’m not sure future hardware needs to be pinned either since it is regularly active like a direct thread. I preferred having the ST planning thread pinned in Treehouse personally. Feels weird the gaming ST planning thread isn’t in the gaming forum at all even if it isn’t too active.

Ah dang, do the MMX games in the collections not have save states? The MMLC had them for the Mega Man games so I just assumed the MMX would be the same. If save states aren't in I think I'll try the first game on the SNES Classic instead.
