I just love hanging out at the airport in the snow, it's SO much fun.

/s

Now if only I had some kind of portable game device that I can play without a TV while out in the open waiting on a plane. If only such a thing existed!
Hope you brought your WiiU

Edited because my image wasn’t showing for some reason

Hogwarts Legacy releasing on July 25th... almost as if they're waiting for the release, let's say, around May 12th, of a more powerful Switch model that'll be able to run the game...

God I fucking love EPCOT.
So, how's the holiday overlay on Living With the Land ? Everyone on DisTwitter seems to praise it

I'm 20. Take a wild guess lmao
Point taken

EPCOT is cool, or at least it was when I was last there. I'm still more of an Animal Kingdom person though.

I am really really not looking forward to traveling next week, especially with an 8:30 AM flight meaning I need to be on public transportation by like 5 at the latest 😱

This is one of the most brutal review headlines I’ve seen for anything ever.

Brutal.

My main recollection from the first movie in theaters is just sitting there and wondering why I couldn't pause things and swivel the camera around to look at the visuals. Like "non-interactive video game" isn't too far off the mark for how to describe it.

So we are supposed to get to zero Fahrenheit next week and maybe below. And it might snow right before that. Could be stuck in the house for a while. Might actually have to play games…

I'm flying for work a couple days this week and a couple days next week, so I anticipate having a lot of airport downtime. Oh boy.

The start and end of the copy are pretty savage too-
Drenching us with a disappointment that can hardly be admitted out loud, James Cameron’s soggy new digitised film has beached like a massive, pointless whale. The story, which might fill a 30-minute cartoon, is stretched as if by some AI program into a three-hour movie of epic tweeness.
And what do we find aside from the high-tech visual superstructure? The floatingly bland plot is like a children’s story without the humour; a YA story without the emotional wound; an action thriller without the hard edge of real excitement.

Holy shit

The Independent’s review is less scathing, they give it 3/5, but they criticise other elements instead.
The beauty of The Way of Water, though, stops there. It’s hard to find much artfulness in its compositions, which seem mostly to borrow from the baseline language of video games, complete with excessive POV shots. And there’s little heart to its story, which compounds the narrative problems of the first film by once more laying the glory of anti-colonial resistance at the foot of a white man who’s “gone native”. The Na’vi are no more than a vague, exoticised blend of real indigenous cultures, with the Metkayina given a few, shallow nods towards Polynesian traditions. The latter is especially odd when handed to Kate Winslet.

Saldaña’s Neytiri, tellingly, is completely sidelined. She mostly cries, and then is told to stop crying and get it together by her stout, action-hero love. The dialogue is either filled with faux-spiritualism or Cameron-typical quips such as “it’s called a punch, bitch”. The two extremes never blend in a way that feels convincing. But these are exactly the same criticisms lobbed at the first Avatarand, often, the rest of the director’s filmography. Cameron, at this point, seems interested less in being an artist than a cinematic frontiersman. That’s the point of The Way of Water – it’s not about what the film has to offer us now, but what it tells us about the future.

I feel like it's gonna be one of them movies that gets by entirely on hype and "ignore the critics"

I'm still stoked to see Avatar TWOW next Sunday!!

I'm seeing TWoW after Christmas, don't want to go in a theater with so many coughy people right now.

We should probably keep TWoW discussion in the TWoW thread though.

It is pretty spacious, so that's nice. It's a ways out to the east, but not bad really, I drive a lot for work anyway so I'm used to that.

These reviews are interesting to me, since the first few reviews I saw were treating it like a crowning achievement and like it was the second coming or something. I have only mild interest in the whole situation, they were just reviews that popped up on Twitter and other places and I happened to see them, though, so maybe they were more just early hype pieces.

I kinda remember the response to the first Avatar being similar. Depending on who you asked it was either a revolution for cinema or it was an expensive remake of Fern Gully.

🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

All I know it it's playing in my local theater instead of all the movies I wanted to see this holiday.

I fucking live for this shit. As much as I love the first Avatar movie, I feel like no film has given such a bounty of absolute spite and hatred in movie reviews.

And the first cracks in the walled gardens appear. It's going to be interesting to see when this is inevitably used against the eShop, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Marketplace.

my iPhone + controller is about to become an emulation powerhouse

with iPhones also about to support USB-C, it’s not wild to think there’s gonna be a way to legally dump GBA carts to an iPhone and play them on that phone, no jailbreak required at all

One of my cats keeps getting his toys stuck in the Christmas tree. I wonder if he’s trying to decorate.

I really enjoyed the first Avatar but I want to live in the timeline where instead Cameron directed a Battle Angel Alita trilogy.

My friend just finished Pokemon Violet and is considering buying Scarlet just because they loved the game so much. Will definitely have to try it out for myself sometime, just as soon I get through all these other games...

If you look past the superficial issues like performance and whatnot, you’ll find the greatest mainline 2-version Pokemon game in two decades.

Yesterday I finished Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and that hit me in the emotions and today I read Flowers for Algernon and that hit me in the emotions too.

I've got a number of narrative-driven games queued up, but I can't find the motivation to start any of them.

I've been reading a lot of excellent novels and watching some great TV/movies recently, and when a game relies on atmosphere or storytelling to draw me in instead of fun moment-to-moment gameplay I just want to pick up my e-reader again.

Ran into a small problem, enemies who regenerate each turn were getting a bit OP after their speed was buffed allowing them to go like 5 times before the player.

So in like 5 minutes I added a "round" system.

No, no, no. Please do not succumb to that treachery! We will send help. I promise!

Do not give up hope!

Wait. Crisis Core release date was today?

What.

I got my copy deliver on Friday the 9th. First time I get a game early and I didn’t even notice. Haven’t even played it since I had to cover a few night shifts and worked 12 hour days.

I want a do over. Get me Fire Emblem Engage early please 🥲
Seems like we traded places, I seemingly won't get my copy of Dragon Quest until this friday lol

NGL, I think I transformed from a Marvel fan into a Spider-Man fan mostly. I just can't be bothered with most superhero stuff anymore. Guardians of the Galaxy, The Boys, and Invincible are the only other exceptions.
