Thanks @shoptroll @BassForever ! I shame Square-Enix didn’t get interested in making these games as definitive FFI-VI versions with all content from previous releases .
FFV was the only game I ever faffed about with an emulator for, back when I was 10 or 11.Really excited to play Final Fantasy V. I loved the job system when I played it in an emulator as a kid (FF VI too, of course, but V reminded me so much of tactics).
It just got rated and the anniversary is on Sunday the 18th. So if it is shadowdropped it will be next week.Wait, FFVI is coming to Switch? Anyone know how soon (roughly)?

Only FF3 is the unquestioned BEST version of 2D FF3 mostly because it has no real competition, especially in English. After that FF1 is arguably the best version of FF1 with the spell charge system, and FF6 has revamped Opera scene that is a pretty nice perk for this version.
Beyond that though FF2, 4, and 5 are all fine versions of their games. Sadly SE could have shut the door on "best version to play" with a bit more effort on these remasters, but sadly it didn't happen and there's still a strong argument for the GBA and PSP versions of FF1, 2, and 4-6 being the best versions.
I wouldn't get your hopes up about SE going back and adding any kind of new content to the PR versions of these games. Just seems like a lot of effort for content most players will never even get to.I could certainly see them pushing out an update or DLC to reincorporate the work that Tose did for the GBA and PSP versions if they wanted to. Given how these were developed in sequence they could've been waiting for all the games to get their art done before they added those dungeons.
However, since 3 never got a GBA release (as the WSC version which would've served as the base was canned) they'd have to whip up a new set of bonus content from scratch for that. You would also need to do a balancing pass on FF1's dungeons since all the encounters in that were based around the MP system that was scrapped in favor of returning to the spell memorization system. You'd probably have to do balance passes anyways since pretty much all of these games got some sizable tweaks to their mechanics judging from patch notes.
So it's possible but would require some amount of resources and it's unclear if they're part of the vision/budget S-E had for these remasters.
Sure, but it's also weird to have a series of Squaresoft re-releases that doesn't have superfluous post-game bonus content awkwardly grafted onto it.I wouldn't get your hopes up about SE going back and adding any kind of new content to the PR versions of these games. What is the last SE rerelease/remaster to add that kind of content? Removing remakes like Live A Live or FF7R cause they're different beast entirely, a lot of SE's remasters in the past decade haven't been adding that kind of tacked on post game content like they did in the 00's. Most of the rereleases/remasters I can think of only have "new" content by means of previously Japanese exclusive enhanced versions finally being localized from like FF12 Zodiac Job System or FF10 International. The most significant new thing added would be Saga Frontiers Remasters 8th playable character, but as I understand they were half finished/dummied out content in the original.Sure, but it's also weird to have a series of Squaresoft re-releases that doesn't have superfluous post-game bonus content awkwardly grafted onto it.
Does Trials of Mana 3D count or is that fall into your other bucket? What is the last SE rerelease/remaster to add that kind of content?
Whats your favourite 2D Classic Final fantasy?
Trials of Mana is a full blown remake, it's essentially a new game being made from the ground up inspired by an old game. It's why I always specifically exclude the 3D remakes of FF3 and FF4 when discussing "best version of each FF game".Does Trials of Mana 3D count or is that fall into your other bucket?
EDIT: Just remembered that Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song Remastered is adding a bunch of new content and superbosses, but I don't know how much of that was cut content / dummied.
Finally!
(I still would prefer ports of the GBA ports though).
3. I think the turning into frogs is just to enter certain dungeons by diving underwater though, once you're in them you can just cast Toad again on your party to turn back, You would have played the 3D version on the DS but they're present in the 2D version as well.Which one has the dungeon that turns your entire party into frogs? Inb4 multiple Final fantasies have a level like that you'll have to be more specific. I remember playing it on the DS. I think it was a remake and not a port but I don't remember. I want to avoid that game.
And it’s $69.99 MSRPFinal Fantasy Pixel Remastered Collection getting a physical release on Switch!
But only Final Fantasy 1 is on the cart. Final Fantasy II - VI require internet connection to download!
Hell of a discount vs the $96 digital they go for otherwise. And it’s $69.99 MSRP
I fully agree! So it's kinda painful to not own a Switch anymore. I'm trying to not waste too much money, and wait until the next model (pro or 2) is released before I buy this myself.these games are perfect for Switch.
Can't wait!
They're still pretty old school, but there's QoL adjustments, some balance changes and bugfixes that mean they're definitely easier and less punishing than their NES/Famicom counterparts. A lot of their more lacking or irritating aspects are kinda baked into the game design and haven't really changed though. How playable are FF1, 2 and 3 here? Too old school or they got updated enough to be playable by modern standards?
FF1 and 3 have aged very well. The PR is easily the most playable version of 2D FF3 ever, and the PR is the most playable version of FF1 with a spell charge system. FF2 was always a black sheep even back in the day. For the main campaign I guess the PR is probably the best overall slightly, though I still would rather play a version with the Rebirth of Souls mode if I'm replaying FF2.How playable are FF1, 2 and 3 here?
