It's that time of year again, and we have another set of Pokemon mainline titles releasing in just a couple days. So the question on everyone's mind (that is, everyone who hasn't already played it) is: will they be any good? Or rather, will the gaming industry think they're any good?

Let's see what the Fami thinks with this definitive, 100% accurate poll

Reference points:
(MC = Metacritic, OC = OpenCritic)

Pokemon Legends Arceus: 83 MC, 84 OC
Pokemon Sword and Shield: 80 MC, 80 OC
Isle of Armor DLC: 69 MC, 67 OC
Crown Tundra DLC: 75 MC, 73 OC
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: 73 MC, 75 OC
Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee: 80 MC, 81 OC

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon: 84 MC, 83 OC
Pokemon Sun and Moon: 87 MC, 87 OC
Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire: 83 MC, 82 OC
Pokemon X and Y: 88 MC, 86 OC

Review embargo is expected to end on Thursday

Somewhere in the 80s, probably. People will like it, but it’s Pokémon.

83 is my guess. Low 80s definitely. I want it higher but it's just how I guess the reviewers will land at.

Thursday?

Above an 80. BDSP are the only sub 80 mainline pokemon games (LGP is 79 but LGE is 80)

Settle around 83ish, maybe a bit lower but I'm not sure. I think it'll be negatively compared to PLA in some areas which could cost it a few points.

I expect mid to low 80s, 84 tops, but I tend to underestimate MC scores so they might have a banger on their hands. Still, never cracking 90.

low to mid 80ties. Its pokemon, catching andbatling will always be fun, you will have some charming mons and characters, so it cant go much bellow that.
On the other hand, its a departure, some core fans will be unhappy, it will be criticised for the lack of polish and its graphics, some gameplay/design decisions that dont really work if youre not a first timer/child.
Then there will be a discussion about the dificulty curve, some will be unhappy about positive changes from Legends that re missing. You will have a few that think its the best game ever and what pokemon was always meant to be.

so yeah, 80-84.
Will it be a fun gameß for 8/10 people i asume it will.
Will it be GotY? maybe for 4/10 simply because its pokemon and there is nothing like it.
will the fanbase be insuferable for a while after release? Probably, i hope not,
im still interested in the games and would like an pleasent online discorse =D

The fact Arceus got an 83 makes me feel like Scarlet and Violet will fall under it, because Arceus was rather fresh in many ways and I think some reviewers might see some mechanics of these versions as a step back.

Yet, this is the first truly open-world Pokémon game, and that has to count for something. So my bet is that it will tie Arceus and get an 83.

This is pretty difficult and kinda meaningless considering that Sword&Shield scored and overall 80 and that put reviewers credibility at the lowest it has ever been concerning Pokemon games (and is funny that a lot of those same reviewers started posting videos around a year later about how "Pokemon can be fixed" which makes me think something very suspicious happened there).

I think that Scarlet&Violet will be better but again, you never know.

Tbh if it wasn't for IGN's weird 9 score, SwSh would've been at most 79. Still debatable if that accurately reflects the quality of the game, but it's a notable drop compared to SM's 87. Critics are even harder on Pokemon now with the SwSh DLC averaging a 72 and BDSP getting a 73, PLA managed to do the best by seriously innovating the gameplay and still capped at 83. I imagine unless stuff seriously changes on GF's end, 83 MC is going to be the hard limit for the series

"+ This is the best pokémon game ever!

- But it's on Switch, which is considerably weak..."

I'd say 82.

Seems like a fair assessment of what will happen yeah.

An 86 - people will gush about their new, refreshing take on Pokemon while pointing out Gamefreak still has work to do on utilizing the Switch to its fullest.

Gonna guess another 89. Game is great but they're gonna knock the performance. People forgetting IGN gave sword and shield like a 9.3 or some shit

I was feeling an 83, but seeing that Arceus got an 83 has me questioning that prediction. I'm gonna go with 80.

It will score higher than 85 because "Pokémon + Open World = Media Win" usually I am not so bold but I'll change my profile pic to something even more atrocious than it is now if I am wrong.

86.

I say 79. It will continue the curse of Nintendo games staying at Something+9

75-80
I think the game will be fine, the creature design and new gimmick will ultimately be accepted. The graphics and how the open world play are most likely going to be what brings the score down as more outlets will probably be less forgiving, especially since they removed some features from Arceus that people wanted them to keep.

Yeah but this is open world, and we've found out recently that critics love open world games no matter what. And Pokémon is actually good on top of that
ah "another" was in reference to another open world game not pokemon then gotcha

83 from reviewers, but people who actually play the game will say it should be higher

Stopped watching after "Games seem held back by Switch hardware".

Game Freak games should be the least suitable for that kind of critcism.
oof haven't watched yet but that's a disappointing take from a pretty seasoned journalist if so

I think it deserves to be critically in the red.

I mean. I kept watching the trailers and I never see Pokémon Colosseum remake in them. Like, give me what I want…I mean the people. Give the people. Yeah people 😐

I really think they will make the 85-89 area this time around. They had Legends Arceus + Sword & Shield to help lay the ground work for their open world. People playing the games early shows its running smoothly, has a lot of content to do and is the most open ended and freedom any Pokemon game has offered so far. The terrasteralize gives uses to all Pokemon while also providing reasons to raid with friends. You can connect and play with other people like a lite MMO.

But breaking into the 90's is too hard nowadays and with smalls things like gym leaders not scaling on which order you fight them is going to hurt them.

"Scarlet and Violet are undoubtedly the future of the Pokémon series, and I’m excited for the potential that future holds,..."
Thats literally what people sad when SW/Sh came out and when Arceus came out.

We will never get there. not because its not possible. its simplynot enough development time or resources for those big games to be finished to a satisfyable 90+ degree.

Gonna be optimistic and say 86. With the exception of Sword and Shield, new gens usually score in the high 80s, and this new one really seems to be something special.

74. Middling open world, performance issues, legacy presentation issues (animations, no VO, etc).

Terratypes will be loved by some, hated by others.

Everyone agrees Pokemon mostly well designed and likable, and core battles are still fun.

I’m shocked at how many people are expecting scores in the mid to low 70s when both Sword and Shield & Let’s GO both got an 80. No way it’s scoring lower than those, come on now.
