The Scorn devs were really like "Let's make Myst but gross and with bad combat and just generally not good." It feels like it's mainly a showcase for the art but it just does not come together in any other department. How do you make a game that looks like that and it's not even creepy?

I'm always tempted to say college is a farce because of how badly it prepares us for the real world but I'm starting to think maybe college is legit and it's actually the real world that's the farce.
The real world is very, very farcical, at the least speaking of U.S. culture. For example - a lot of colleges are actually walkable communities where friendship and cooperation are crucial! Compare that to the "real" world, which has many car dominated, unwalkable communities where people rely less on others and are pushed to focus more on just the home unit instead of a wider community. Not a fan!

I think most companies kinda understand that all a college degree shows them is that you're capable of learning something and doing decently enough on evaluations of what you've learned. I've taken very little of my degree into the real world besides the knowledge that nanotechnology is kick-ass.
I have a Master’s and basically everything I do on a day-to-day basis is freshman/sophomore programming classes or group project / design stuff from junior level classes. Or stuff you just have to learn in the real world like source management, ticketing systems, etc.

Although to be brutally honest at least with programming having a really strong grasp of the fundamentals and being able to think logically / procedurally has been way more valuable than many of the classes I took.

Been chilling with this playlist and kinda look forward to friday when P5 releases. Also, I fly this saturday for like 9 hours so having my Switch with P5 on hand is gonna rock!

On the topic of studies and work: I'm constantly surprised by how useful my master's studies ended up being. I entered university thinking I'd do some sort of robotics stuff, but that turned out to be quite boring and in the end I majored in control theory, which I did like a lot. The big thing though is that I did a lot of machine learning courses because I just found them very interesting. This was before the big AI boom there is now and I was sure that it would all be completely useless, but I couldn't have been more wrong.

as long everything is functional enough, I don't invest much thought on it.. I'm not even intolerant to occasional hiccups.
all I care is whether it doesn't give me a headache

I tried to play Resident Evil 5 some many years ago on my humble computer and I was getting 10fps tops lmao

And I was getting the worst headache I ever got playing a game because of the slowdown and the bright setting, I think

Almost done with Link Between Worlds, cleared the main dungeons, got all the items, their upgrades and all the heart pieces... and it's just been 15 hours. Just the final dungeon left.

I hope the Zelda team makes a new 2D one sometime, I love big adventures like BotW but shorter experiences like ALBW are cool to have as well.

I played RE5 on a Pentium 4 lol
I didn't play RE5 on a Pentium 4, but I did play The Sims 3 on a Pentium 4 and the Pentium 4 PC ran TS3 much better than the other (newer lol) PC that was running RE5

Still, TS3 was running at like 20 fps and it was TS3, so it was glitchy, but it was perfectly playable, that's how I like it (unlike The Sims 4, that has some game breaking bugs just by installing a new pack lmao)

I’ve found the opposite to be true with the Sims 3. I share an Origin account with my brother and he has all the expansions, but installing every single one introduces strange bugs beyond what you can find in 4.

fashionably late to the ADD / ADHD chat, fittingly

but I’ve been having a lifelong ordeal with it, and meds help, but it’s still very tricky to navigate

part of the stress is obviously society etc, but not all of it — there’s something to be said for not being able to do things you want to do for yourself

I used to take meds for it but stopped right after high school. I would like to try going back on them but last time I asked my (new, Medicaid assigned) doctor about it he told me my heart rate was too high.

also made some significant compositional tweaks to this. maybe too maximalist. definitely overcompressed. buttttt slappy and spooky so I think it’ll work?

My motivation to work on my game is nearing an all time low, making levels from scratch with just the basic "make a haunted house!" prompt is incredibly creatively draining. Amalgam creatures are much more fun and engaging for whatever reason.

And I have 20 more of these dungeons to make ugh

Right, 3 has some strange bugs and it gets really really slow when you install all game packs (which I did too and regretted it lmao), but it was still playable

4 has simulation lag and some bugs activate it to a point you can't play anymore. I installed the expansion with the cows and hens (lol forgot the name) and I lost like 10 saves because of it, I would enter a house or community lot that came with the expansion and it would trigger a bug that made my save file extremely bloated (like over 200 MB and growing) and because of simulation lag the game would be frozen the entire time. And there are other bugs that trigger the same thing

You’ll get through it. I believe in you.

Anyone have a second opinion on costume quest? On sale for 2,50 on steam and a steam deck halloween video I saw heavily recommended it. Want some thoughts here though.
You don't need a second one, the first one you have is enough. It's a super fun Earthbound-lite, Schafer made the game after playing through Earthbound SNES. The whole costume collecting thing makes the game stand out.
How is this game not on switch?

Plenty of Double Fine games are missing on Switch. It's now even less likely as they got bought by Microsoft. I really wanted Psychonauts 1-2 on Switch....

Oh well I don’t think I have the newer expansions for 4. I used to have the simulation lag on my older laptop, but I got a new one a couple years ago and installed it in an SSD and never really run into that kind of thing anymore. Then again I don’t really play it a whole lot. Wish they’d patch in the console controls. No reason for it not to have controller support at this point.

What a mood.

Let's take right freaking now. I want to relax by playing a game. But very little is interesting to my fickle brain. So rather than just pick something, I...don't. More time on YouTube and social media I guess. Ugh.

Don't worry, let it go, take a walk, breathe, take your time, let your creativity run amok through your mind and come back when you're feeling refreshed and like your mind is exploding with ideas again

Me: "I should finish some of my backlog before Mario Rabbids, Bayo 3, and Pokemon launch"

Also me: "been having a shit week, time to replay Mario Odyssey out of the blue"

Y'know, I've been hard on this game in the past because of how the moons are handled, but man, playing Mario Odyssey is just a rush of pure dopamine piped straight into my brain. I miss 3D Mario

Don't make me more tempted to just replay Mario Odyssey!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, yeah. I might take a few weeks off, actually play a game or two. Hopefully that'll help.

You know.. I'm happy for the silent hills fans.. but me, what Im really feeling is. Why would Konami with so many great franchises make a million games at the same time from one of their worst franchises. Baha.

Hopefully they put som love to their other stuff soon :)

Cautiously optimistic regarding the silent hill announcements, but I'm definitely not as excited by what was shown as I expected. It's been less than an hour and I feel like my brain already archived the news lol

Oh my gosh I just remembered Pikmin 4 is out next year... and that I downloaded Pikmin 3 DX

My brain is soup but past me did good and valuable work stockpiling videogames.
