If an asexual theme is made, then how are we suppose to turn it on?

also what’s like indie game pricing consensus these days?

I’m pretty set on $15 for my game because it seems like a moderate accessible number that doesn’t undervalue it

and I know it’s like… scribbles and goofiness, and my art direction is low on flourish, but it will have plenty of content

there’s like 400+ Grögols, 20 Gröglords (gym leaders), several plot battles and Grögleague mayhem, 36+ major locations, etc…

is that reasonable? or am I a fool?
I think $15 is perfectly reasonable, that's usually more on the low end for Indies isn't it? Although I admit I don't know a ton about Indie pricing beyond a lot of the more well-known ones.

I think it's very reasonable, especially considering it's hand-drawn, goofy or otherwise. You could also do what a lot of indie devs seem to do (and I've seen interviews with some who say it's been a good strategy): price it a little higher (like $20) to test the waters and if it doesn't catch quick then put it on sale at $15 after a while.

Seriously, I tend to shop more by what's on sale than just by whatever's cheap. It's probably not a great way to go but like a $20 game that's ok sale for $15 will catch my eye better than a game that's just $15 normally. Having the price be a different color with the little sale marker and stuff does something to my brain and makes me go "ooooooooooh"

Hollow a knight was $15, and that's widely known as an absolutely steal
lowkey absolutely ripping them off pricewise

the ethos stands

it was a really easy decision for me to buy it at $15 because if it wasn’t great or wasn’t long, I wouldn’t feel like I burned the cash completely

and then it turned out to be both huge and my favorite game of all time

so yeah! I figure $15 says “the person who made this believes in it but hopes if you don’t like it you don’t feel ripped off”

Wait is this 15 CAD or 15 USD

Because I want to say that given the amount of content you have planned that 20 would be acceptable, but I also want to say that if this is 15 CAD then this game truly is a steal.

ahhh but see if it’s $15 and then it goes down to $12 or even $10 does that scratch the same sale itch?

believe me I get the sale strategy, when I lived in the US I was a *midwesterner*

A sale price of 9.99 is pretty appealing but definitely too low for a standard price.

I think Wario is cute.
So does Wario

Damn, I guess FamiBoards is a pretty sophisticated website. Other companies have micro-transactions to unlock online content, but FamiBoards is going to make people buy candles, wine, and ingredients for a nice dinner to unlock website features.
I mean if ever there were a website I'd try to romance...

You did this to yourself.

I hate that SNL tried to normalize that fuckin facist

Actually I'm gonna second @VolcanicDynamo's question now: are we talking CAD or USD? Because if CAD I'd actually say you're undershooting.

Seriously, there's a point at which if a game is too cheap at normal, non-sale price, I sorta assume it might be shovelware. 😅

ethical or not my evil plan is both

it’s a game I’m charging $15 USD for but if I get regional control, Canada gets a discount to $15 CAD even.

it’s actually like those birds that use their wings to make confusing colors and shapes — Canadians never see even or fucking normal prices in the eShop under any circumstances, so I’m banking on bewilderment to draw attention

plus I just like the notion of an even 15

I'm sure there's a ton of research on indie game pricing. Personally I've been eyeing $20 for mine but I'm not sure why, it just feels like a good number in my mind. I think there's definitely a risk associated with pricing it too low, people will think it's shovelware or something. Obviously there are risks when it's too high too.

This is why we need Famiboards to be our publisher, let them figure this stuff out.

If that's the case, then I think it's hard to go wrong with 15, but I would at least consider a 20 dollar price point given the labor and amount of content in the title.

Wario definitely fucks, but I don't want to know who

Waluigi, on the other hand, is probably the Riker of the Mario universe

One of my favorite things about the Switch era is Nintendo’s new obsession for putting Mario characters in different outfits. It started with Odyssey and now almost every Mario game has some cool new drip.

Okay, I know you were trying to humor me and didn't mean anything by this, but please don't post Elon Musk in here, given his history of bigotry...
Not just his history but his fuckin present.

It's not technically bigotry (I think) but the shit he's been arrogantly suggesting about Ukraine and Taiwan in the recent weeks is fucking abhorrent.

All the Mario-people and Mario-creatures are cute
counterpoint: mario is ugly and I want him to get stuck in a pipe

but I almost agree on the rest

this started as describing why I find some of them charming but 100% turned into “what kinds of queer are the Mario characters” so oops
  • Luigi — absolute twink, has more charm, mixed confidence is relatable
  • Wario — chaos, love it, begrudgingly support a goofball asshole
  • Waluigi — raw sexual energy, possibly t-boy swag? god, who knows, but complete bisexual black hole
  • Peach — I’m sorry I don’t date heads of state, white supremacists, taylor swift impersonators, or drywall
  • Daisy — always support an overconfident chaos lesbian, bet money she’s written “she / they ???” in a notebook somewhere, appreciate that she doesn’t plan and just goes ham. though I think she leans more queer than outright lesbian. she’s just trying shit and figuring it out
  • Rosalina — do I even need to elaborate on how gay Rosalina is? soft spot for absent-minded librarian lesbians with understated terrifying cosmic power and gently tragic childhoods
  • Kamek — David Sedaris
  • Bowser — ~hello~ gay bowser (problematic fave)
  • Lakitu — absolute nerd twink they, big fan of their enthusiasm, bet you anything they dated Luigi for a sec and they ended up being a little too similar / looking for different things but are on good terms
this… went a very different direction than I anticipated

probably says something about me that my attempt to describe the charm of Mario characters turned into “I think they’re all gay and here’s the kind of gay I think they are,” huh

Well, I meant cute in a way that I find animals cute, but this is fun too I guess
