I can’t even with all the Mahi Hate in here. It’s to Splatoon what Shipment is to Call of Duty: a small, ridiculous, beautiful clusterfuck that must stay the way it is!
My biggest problem with Mahi is that I was hoping for this:

I didn’t get to play it in the original and it was one of the maps I was looking forward to.

Apparently someone brought a mouse and keyboard adapter to a LAN, which is super cool! It's really nice for accessibility to have the option.
I can speak from very personal experience that even with the best possible adapters, you will always be at a slight disadvantage to controller gyro users, so I see no reason to freak out like some of the replies to this tweet are.

I mostly think it's neat that this is even possible, let alone the accessibility gains.

play tower control on it and see if you still think that
I concede that having a stage that's such an agent of chaos doesn't work as well in Splatoon, where the maps stick for hours on end. The concept works a bit better in a bigger rotation like CoD. But what can I say, I love Shipment and like to watch the world burn lol. Tower Control is the worst mode for Mahi for sure

Wow! I haven't played enough Splatoon overall to be keyed in to all the map alterations, etc. That is quite a downsize!

I think that’s awesome. My friend is a paraplegic and cannot hold a controller for too long as it causes him a lot of pain and discomfort, so I am absolutely for anything that grants accessibility.

Plus that is one great shirt they are wearing.

I get excited whenever hagglefish or makomart are in rotation bc those are the only 2 good maps in this game (y)

I won't besmirch MakoMart but Tower Control on Hagglefish Market is in the heavily populated bottom tier.

Still, shopping venues make great Splatoon stages on average. YES, AROWANA MALL INCLUDED!

I generally like most of the maps, but it's really clear most of the new ones were not designed for Tower Control. Some you move for like 5 seconds and you're already on the first checkpoint

I hope they go really meta with the Deep Cut dialogue for this Splatfest.
"What's a Pokemon?"
"Oh, it's a video game series the humans used to play all the time."

My thoughts on this video game.

+tableturf battle - lots of fun here. I know the promise is online TT battles, but frankly I'm glad I was here for the before-times. Online battles will quickly devolve to "did you have enough points to get the best cards." We all know it. It's super grindy. At least the AI is beatable with the inferior shit. Like it while you can.

+balance - they really tuned that shit. 1 was so special heavy. 2 was very map intensive. 3 I may be biased, but I feel like more classes of weapons make sense. (I'm not a shooter expert). It just feels like you can make more things work to me, and I took advantage of that.

- I sincerely wish that there was a casual Salmon Run. I know "git gud" or whatever copypasta bullshit. I don't care.
I like this mode but I hate so much about it. Better that we can always access it as opposed to every other day (from 2) but it still suffers from this lack of "easy mode." I'm sure it's great with a constant crew with voice chat or whatever, but playing randoms is still awful and it shouldn't be.

My ideas? Let us pick our weapon CLASS. We know what we are good at. ie - "Give me a charger, watch me die." Look, if that's the extent of it, great. But in a RANDOM team sport, it sucks. I hate it when I have a sniper rifle and it's like "Last alive....glowfish fog" Yeah, we lost bro. I can't hold it. I feel like I could crush if I had a rapid fire weapon constantly. Let me test that.

For ME? It's sometimes awesome, mostly stupid. Level up, level down. Level up, level down.

Fine, I don't care about ranks or whatnot. Let me do a casual league. Ugh. Rant over.

=Campaign. All right. Sucked in some places, was ok in some places, was fun in some places. Willing to call it even. But when it comes to a mainline EPD release, not good enough. Youngbloods of Nintendo - you killed it once and are coasting. You ain't in the class.

I beat "After Alterna." Yeah, it was hard. That isn't interesting. Do something.

Main message:

Youngblood Nintendo gives me doubt. You got sales numbers but don't let that fool you. Evolve.

The whole package makes me worry for the future of this company. Even if I enjoyed it. They crushed it out of the gate with Splat 1 with a flawed masterpiece. Made it better, then stagnated.

Mario 1>3.
Zelda 1>3.
Splatoon 1>1.5.
EVOLVE FAIL.
Bring the hate.

No matter what, they have a good game, but anyone who criticizes it as not the Nintendo Way............yeah, I get it.

Overall, 46% fresh. Ish.

Cheers, keep decorating that locker.

Man I like this game but they should stop running these servers on a watermelon. I just ranked up to A- and immediately welcomed with 3 disconnect strikes in a row.

Nearly bankrupted myself last night upgrading the star power on quite a few pieces of Rockenberg gear. Gotta get that badge!

if you're ever frustrated with a charger just know that every missed shot takes an hour off our lives

I miss this layout so much 🥺

Really excellent Salmon Run rotation today. Great stage, good weapons. 2 friends and I were able to play for a couple of hours and we defeated Cohozuna 3 times (0 gold and 3 silver scales, tho). SR is soooo fun when you're playing with people who know what they're doing. Feels good, man! 😎

The Deep Cut concert is going to start soon: Linke for those who want to see it (they'll be doing KK Slider first)

EDIT: Deep Cut starting now

EDIT 2: For those who missed it, the KK Slider portion starts at 6;39:55 and the Deep Cut portion starts at 7:11:30

...Is this a new song?

EDIT: I see they're keeping in with the tradition of the one with the forehead being the rapper.

Edit: good concert! Now to sleep

I've been hearing Flounder Heights will be the next stage addition, and seeing how this was just posted, I wouldn't be surprised.

Big Man has the stage presence of a prog metal guitarist. Just picks a spot to stand in and never moves for the rest of the concert.

The concert was good though it's definitely frustrating they didn't announce anything about what's coming up. Odds are Flounder and the first set of new kits will come on Friday, so why not just announce it there?

I hope big run is a weeklong event, if it's just the weekend of the 22nd-23rd I probably won't be able to play at all this time.

When the game places I, a Splattershot Jr, with a team of rollers and Splash-o-Matics versus Hydra, E-Liter, Jet and Brush.

hahahaI'mindanger.jpg

Rank mode feels even more dependent on team composition than Splatoon 1&2.
I play Splattershot Professional or 52Gal which are quite versatile weapons, so that helps a little. But there are clearly some cases where a team is going to feel powerless against the other, and I never felt it as much in the previous games.

Weapons were said to be added around the same time as the new catalogues, so early December for the next
yeah, I don't think we're getting a midseason map either

it's a bummer that this is the first splatoon I'm playing "live" and they've cut the support waaaay down

I don't think they're cutting the support down, it's just in bigger batches instead of weekly/monthly

We also have no clue what the midseason update will bring.

Feeling hungry for new content tbh, every 3 months is way too long of a gap IMO. Mid-season update would be nice
I'm gonna be honest, I sort of prefer this to the previous games doing "new weapon every week". It just meant 90% of the playerbase was gonna use the new weapon for the rest of the week.

dooooop

what weapons are you playing these days
range blaster is my main but I play a lot of splat roller these days.

Yeah, I don't really want weekly either but halfway into the season would be nice. They can save the maps for big season updates.

Have they officially said anything about mid-season updates being a thing or is that just an expectation based on how other games do it?

They said they will release an update featuring balancing and other things about halfway through the season in the last patch notes

I could see "other things" being Rank X and Tabletop multiplayer getting enabled. Won't say no to more maps though.
Apparently the servers are already sending map rotations for X battles and League Battles since launch day, so those can likely be enabled server side at any time.

Some (or a lot of) salmon run stuff is expected too, since Splatoween looks very likely to be the first Big Run and plans look big from datamining

Needed no debt forgiveness. No, no, not me. Pulled myself up by my boot-straps* all by myself I did.

Never thought I'd get there before the season reset after going deep into the red. The lowest points negative I could find documented was -1447, but I remember being 2500 away from a Rank-Up Battle only I was too depressed to take a screenshot. Rebuild my confidence Open, then jumped back into Series with better luck.

Now onto S+!!

*the bootstraps being the matchmaking suddenly deciding to play nice.

They weren't explicit enough about that to be sure. 3 months is a long time to go without any new kits and it would be a significant change from the previous games. It doesn't make much sense to tease future content with stuff that is more than 7 weeks away, despite the fact that we know there are other things that will come in-between. If they already have specific plans on when things are going to be released it's in everybody's best interest to make that clear, being vague as they have been just makes everything worse.

After seeing how most of the posts in splatsville yesterday were about the fact that there isn't going to be an October splatfest and not the actual splatfest that was announced, no new kits until the next season would be another clear example of poor communication from the team and failing to appropriately prepare players for what is actually going to be released. That would be a big downgrade after their excellent communication in Splatoon 2 where the game settled into a pretty clear schedule within a month and the changes to that schedule were clearly communicated.
